My sisters, aunt and I had such a wonderful stay. The property had everything that we needed. We love to cook and were very appreciative of the well equipped kitchen! It was a perfect time of year too with all the leaves changing, we wish we had more time there.
We had an awesome time at this property! Owners were so easy to work with and there was great communication. When we got there, everything was exactly as described. It was very clean. The beds were amazing. We were aware of the rocky bottom so we brought water shoes which worked out perfect. The fishing was great and got to see lots of creatures. There was even an otter that swam around every evening. The family agreed we would definitely stay again! Thanks so much!
We totally enjoyed our stay at this beautiful place. I can honestly say these owners provided every convenience needed, plus more. A wonderful experience for all ages!
We had a lovely time during our stay. Heidi was a great host!! The home was clean and the kitchen was well stocked. The appliances (stove, grill, washer/dryer) appeared to be new and really nice quality. Lots of natural light coming in through the windows. Tap water was good (no weird smell, taste or color). The lake water was clean and great for swimming. The bottom was a little rocky (bring swim shoes) BUT the rocks kept the weeds away, which was wonderful. Overall this was a great choice!!
Enjoyed a great week at this very clean and well maintained property. Great deck and screened porch to enjoy your surroundings. Absolutely recommend and will be booking again soon!
This property was in perfect shape for our visit. We've stayed in a few VRBO properties previously, but this was one of the best. Anything we needed unexpectedly - mending tape, a ruler, an interesting spice - was already in the house. We sat out on the deck on the nice days, and visited local shops and attractions on the one rainy day. The dock and raft were great for our very last chance at a summer swim, and the kayaks were enjoyed. We even had a close encounter with a family of otters who cavorted nearby. The check out time was 10 am, a bit earlier than usual for VRBO sites. The cleaning crew showed up at 10 when we were almost, but not quite in the car. They were willing to start cleaning around us as we loaded the last items, and were very kind. All around, a great, restful spot for a 5 day vacation after Labor Day. Thanks for the lovely spot!
Spent a full week here in August. Found property as shown. Clean, very few bugs, well-stocked with pans & utensils, paper towels, etc., dining table for 8. Everything worked well. Water pressure and taste of water good. Nice furniture in all rooms. Recently remodeled(?) basement w. ping pong, lots of games & books, carpeting. Nice big deck w. outdoor furniture and a gas grill we used twice. Had 2 kayaks we used several times, a firepit and a nice dock we moored at, bringing our boat in from a nearby paved public access launch point. Lake was fairly nice and clean. Internet worked well. Good communications with owner.
We really enjoyed our stay in Stone Lake. The owners were responsive and gracious. The cabin was clean and accommodating. We’re looking forward to visiting again!
Absolutely wonderful home! We enjoyed the ping pong table and the outside fire pit. Sand lake is beautiful and easily navigable. Our hosts, Peter and Heidi were always available by phone or text messaging. Nicely located with a short drive to local gas station and about 15 minutes to Hayward. Great family getaway and many memories made.
Price was good for being on a lake. Excellent swimming from dock and floating pad. Need water shoes/sandals due to rocks, but it is shallow and easy to swim with clear water. Kids (ages 6, 8 & 9) had a blast. Well stocked with all that one might need for day to day living. Roughly 15-20 minutes away from Hayward. We loved the Stone Lake Pub (excellent service, tasty food and very accommodating of children) that is only a few minutes away. Only downside was a broken refrigerator door, cabinet door and over grown landscaping. None of which deterred our fun or overall experience.
This was our 4th time at this place and for the most part it was again, wonderful. Just a few glitches this time. I'm not sure if the owners live nearby. I feel their staff does not care about their place as they should. The owners were trying to be accomodating, but the property manager and "wood guy" weren't terribly thoughtful. I think if they can get back to their old ways, this property will be top notch again.
We spent a wonderful week with 4 adults and 4 children ages 14 to 7. The house was wonderful with beautiful views out to the lake. We spent most of our week enjoying paddling, swimming, fishing and bird watching. A wonderful getaway for all of us.
We’ve stayed here for Birkie Week for the last few years, and as always, we had a great time and the cabin was perfect for our family and friends. We enjoyed using the brand new range and noticed some other updates, like new flooring in the hallway and two of the main floor bedrooms, and new carpet on the stairs to the loft. The garage has a large snowblower that made clearing 10+ of fresh snow easy. We also borrowed the snowshoes to tromp around on the lake. We are looking forward to returning next year!
We were a group of eight, including four adults and four teenagers. The owner reached out with check-in details prior to check in, which was appreciated. The kitchen was well equipped and had all the basics for a cooked meal in. The Stone Lake area also has some great bars in town, which are also a nice option for food and drinks. We stayed in the winter and fortunately the weather cooperated as we were able to spend lots of time outdoors. Otherwise, with a group of eight, this cabin could be a tight squeeze. There was a great space downstairs to hang out and watch movies, which helped with space. A couple things to consider are that one of the bedrooms is lofted, and while private, does not allow for people to sleep in if others are awake. Also, there is no garbage service and they ask that you take your garbage to a dump, located nearby. There is a small fee and the dump is only open three days per week. Not a huge issue for us, but could be for others. Overall, the cabin was cute, cozy and very clean. We love the area as it is wooded and relatively quiet for the Hayward area. We had a great weekend.
Everything we wanted. A quiet, relaxing. peaceful stay after with great weather. Could not ask for a better accommodation. Thank you for the wonderful experience.
Our first time staying here at this home (but we have stayed on this lake before). It was a little smaller than what we usually get, but it worked out just fine. Appreciated how nice and clean it was. Owners very nice to work with & responded quickly to questions. Would recommend!
We had a great 2 weeks! The care to make it dog friendly was 1st rate! Dog blankets, dog bowls, gates on the deck to keep the pup contained. The house was perfectly clean! Kitchen supplies for cooking were just right. Everything we needed to create meals. The firewood stacked and dry was a nice touch. The fire ring was awesome and a great place to view sunsets across the lake. Thank you for a great vacation!
What a great time at Heidi and Peter‘s place! Checkin was super easy. Everything was as advertised and the family all had a great time. The home was very clean, well furnished, and comfortable. We really enjoyed the location, close to Stone Lake and many of our fave restaurants. My wife and I also loved walking and biking on the low traveled roads around the property.
We are definitely looking forward to a return trip in 2023!!
This is a nice property tucked in a bay on Sand Lake. Three levels so plenty of room to spread out with a great deck area. It is an older home with creaking floors character that didn’t bother us but can make for loud mornings/evenings. . Easy check in/out process. Location to Stone Lake is great and only 10 miles to Hayward. We rented a boat for a few days from a business in Hayward too. The water is shallow at the dock so easy for swimming. A bit rocky so bring water shoes. You will have nice sunsets from the dock!
Ping pong, games ,tv, firewood were nice too. Only suggestion I would make would be to invest in garbage pick up for guests since you have to pack out your own garbage to the dump while on vacation or take it home with you. Also, the outside needs some easy aesthetic work to cut back the overgrowth and pull weeds to improve the look. Overall a nice place and we recommend.
We had a wonderful time at the cabin. Enjoyed swimming, fishing and boating on the lake.
Prepared wonderful family meals in well equiped kitchen.
Close to the City of Stone Lake and fairly close to Hayward and all the activities offered there.
We had so much fun at this clean, cozy cabin! There are lots of books and games, and anything you could possibly need in the kitchen. The fish weren't biting, and the rain showers drove us indoors a few times, but the ping pong table was a life saver. Our grandchildren had a blast with that. We also enjoyed the screened porch for cribbage and relaxing in the hammocks. All in all, a wonderful stay.
This was our third stay at Seeblick and it did not dissappoint. the accomodations, the property and mostly, the beautiful, clean lake met our expectations and then some...will be booking for next year....
Peter & Heidi were so kind and helpful from the beginning. EVERYTHING other than food is thoughtfully tucked away in this cabin! Our family of 4 and our pup enjoyed a week relaxing on the beautiful deck, the screened in patio (in the hanging chairs), playing games in the living room, grilling on the huge Weber grill (plenty of propane was provided for the week), or reading one of the many books in the house! The attached dock was an easy drive over from the Sand Lake public landing! It was so nice to walk down the steps and be right on the lake!
We have stayed here for several years now in the winter and are planning to return again next year. The cabin was great, as usual, and the hosts were excellent with communication and updates, as usual. Already looking forward to next time!

About the host
Hosted by Peter Stark & Heidi Kempcke
Well, we would have put our own photos in as "owners" but that wouldn't have been exactly true. We're really just life support for Rufus - our only modestly spoiled chocolate lab - and he's really the one who "owns" our life so it seemed more appropriate for him to represent us on VRBO. And, yes, he absolutely loves it here.
Our Sand Lake home was built by Art and Mary Ann Kempcke pretty much from the ground up and has been a part of the family for more than 30 years. It retains much of the feel of a Swedish "stuga" or lake home in accordance with Mary Ann's Swedish ancestry and carries the name "Seeblick" ("Lake View") as a nod to Art's German heritage. When Art and Mary Ann decided to move closer to their grandchildren in the Twin Cities, their daughter Heidi and her husband Peter purchased the house to keep it in the family.
Heidi and Peter live predominantly in Minneapolis, although both are fully engaged professionally - Heidi as a management consultant and Peter as a University professor - and travel a fair bit. When time permits - and the home is available - they spend time here ... Rufus wouldn't have it any other way.
Why they chose this property
Seeblick is a unique combination of rustic and civilized. It provides the opportunity to spend time outdoors in the great northern Wisconsin woods or on/in Sand Lake and then return to a convenient, comfortable and relaxing indoor retreat to recharge and refresh. We love the ability to spend the day out in the woods with Rufus and then enjoy sunset on the deck with a wine and cheese.
What makes this property unique
It's hard not to love the location. Seeblick is perfect for accessing the Birkebeiner trails (winter and summer), any number of forest trails or lakes, great restaurants and, our favorite, great sunsets.
