About this property

Special cottage for 2-4 in secluded nature reserve in Exmoor National Park.

Mounsey End is a 2 bedroom, self-contained wing of an Edwardian holiday house, within its own 144 acre woodland nature reserve to explore, and 2 miles of River Barle fishing for those that want. 4 miles up the valley from pretty town of Dulverton with excellent late night Co-op and other quality shops, pubs, restaurants. The house is reached down a long Devon style track and hides itself into the top of the wood overlooking the valley and the scheduled Iron Age hill fort Mounsey Castle within the reserve.

The cottage has a well appointed kitchen/dining/living room with Woodburner and micro hifi, and a study/TV room through an arch adjacent. A master double bedroom and light and airy twin bedded room upstairs give off a landing/library lined with books. The ample bathroom has bath with shower, a basin and a WC, with a downstairs loo and basin beside the front door.

There's a washer/dryer with outside drying line and a pull-out one over the bath if needed. The kitchen has an electric oven, gas hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and freezer.

The private garden area is not fully enclosed but with 140 acres one side and 250 yards remote from the nearest public (infrequently used) lane, we've never seen the need. Ample exclusive parking for two cars. Well-behaved dogs welcome.

Secluded spot
A little spot of well hidden peace and tranquility amongst the flora and fauna - plenty of opportunity to see and hear the local wildlife. Clean and well equipped we had a really great base from which to explore. Hadn’t realised it was part of a larger property but felt completely separate and wasn’t an issue at all. Easy check in and out, and kept well informed along the way.

What a view!
This cottage really is off the beaten track. The last part which is down a narrow unmade road makes you wonder whether the cottage actually exists. The view though when you get there over the forest is probably one of the best I have seen from any holiday cottage. House is well equipped and the woods provide ample walks close by. Dulverton is very pretty with excellent shops and a truly great pub called the Woods. I am told the wines and the food are the reason to visit but the cider is also very good! Highly recommend cottage

far from the madding crowd
peace and tranquillity in a beautiful setting surrounded by nature in all its glory . amazing views over a wooded valley and some excellent walks in the private nature reserve i managed to explore the full length of the valley and would thoroughly recommend it though some fairly steep climbs especially up to mounsey castle but well worth the experience as it opens up onto a beautiful clearing once you navigate through the scrub . certainly hope to visit again in the future and no need to travel anywhere else as the house and surrounding land has all you could wish for in the way of nature with the bonus of privacy
