About this property

Spacious Cottage. Lovely Shenandoah Valley Views. Near Lexington And Staunton.

The Rose Cottage is a comfortable home, centrally located in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, just north of the Village of Fairfield. It is conveniently situated very near Interstate 81, Interstate 64, and US Route 11 (an interesting easy-to-drive highway that stretches from New Orleans all the way to the Canadian border, linking a multitude of cities and small towns along the way).

You must provide confirmation for all guests of full Covid vaccinations. We have a number of family members who are especially vulnerable.

The property, secluded but not isolated, boasts magnificent views of the night sky, (see deep sky photos taken by our wonderful guest, Dave Morgan, from the Cottage), walking trails winding through our twenty acres of woodlands, bird and wildlife viewing, and a relaxing rural lifestyle experience.

A well appointed kitchen with dining area (should you take a notion to have a quiet meal at home or entertain a few friends), flows into a roomy living area with plenty of room for reading, watching a movie or listening to music. The living room opens directly onto a large outdoor deck, with a charcoal grill and seating for outdoor dining. The deck provides expansive views of pastureland, woods, and the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains - a perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee and newspaper or to unwind at the end of the day with a picnic supper or nightcap.

The home has central air conditioning and heat.

The living room contains a television and a well-stocked selection of DVDs for your enjoyment. The Cottage offers hi-speed fiber optic internet and a generous television program. There is also an eclectic reading library for quiet evenings.

The main floor consists of three bedrooms, one with a queen bed and a private bath and dressing area. Two roomy bedrooms at the other end of the home share a full bath. One of those bedrooms is equipped with a full size bed. The other has two twin beds.

Beautiful location, great house
My family and I had a great stay here. The house was very nice and well-stocked, the yard and view were great, and we especially loved that we were able to bring our 2 dogs. It was a total of 5 adults, and there was plenty of room.

Wonderful hosts, beautiful view
Anita and Jay were so welcoming and flexible regarding our arrival and departure, which we so appreciated. The cottage had everything we needed -- and then some -- with juices, yogurt, and fresh eggs in the fridge. Even though the weather wasn't great, the view from the cottage sure was! Thank you, Anita and Jay!

Great property with Amazing Hosts
This beautiful property is located at a very pleasant place with a refreshing scenic view. What makes it stand out even more is the amazing hosts. The hosts are very welcoming and caring. Listing down few of the points which we loved about the property: - Location The cottage is located at the top of a hill which gives you the most amazing and refreshing view of the woods in the back. Do not miss the sunrise. - Property facilities The cottage is arranged very thoughtfully where you will find almost everything you need. - Nearby Trails and visiting places There are some really nice and quite places to hang out like Goshen Pass. - Hosts are always reachable and guide you whenever asked for.

Delightful home in the Shenandoah Valley
Well kept and immaculate home with all the creature comforts you need. Close enough to town with all of the secluded beauty of the area. Could easily stay (and would hope to) longer as a home away from home. Hosts are delightful.

Almost heaven
The Blue Ridge to the east and the Appalachians to the west with peace and quiet in between are the setting for Rose Cottage. We had a relaxing stay here. Just sitting on the deck we saw a great variety of birds at the feeders along with deer, rabbits and a groundhog. The hosts are gracious and accomodating. Jay took us on a tour of the county. We also drove the Blue Ridge Parkway from its northern end to the Buena Vista exit. Beautiful scenery in the summer, but probably spectactular in autumn. The description of the property is accurate. Be aware that you will have to drive a few miles for shopping or restaurants.

Best yet
Frequent VRBO patron and Rose Cottage tops them all. Check-in/out....flawless. Spotless cottage with great views and hiking. Enjoyed breakfast/dinner in with a very well equipped kitchen, as well as local restaurants. In town for college graduation in Lexington and the location is perfect....feel like you are very remote, but town is just minutes away. Thanks to the hosts...we'll be back!

Great Meeting Spot for Family Holiday
We chose this property as a halfway spot between our house in SC and my daughter's family in NJ (5.5 hr drive for each of us) Perfect for a relaxed and cozy family get-together! House is exactly as described and well outfitted. This was definitely the best stocked kitchen of anyplace we have stayed (for those of us who like to have home-cooked meals) Also close to many other dining options. The property is spectacular and secluded. The owner hit the perfect balance between being available for questions and allowing us our privacy. Great access to two of our favorite towns, Staunton and Lexington. Five stars all around!

Perfect
Beautiful location, comfortable and well stocked home. Fall leaf peeping was delightful for two of us from Florida. Plenty to do short drive in any direction but with several rainy days was very pleasant from living room or deck watching birds & residence groundhog feeding. Plus mountain views with changing light.

What a gem!
Our first trip on Vrbo, and absolutely exceeded our expectations. Anita and Jay were amazing hosts, knowledgeable about the local area and always willing to assist us, but never intruding on our privacy. The rose cottage is a beautiful, cozy place in a very scenic part of Virginia with tons of activities around. Highly recommend this place, and hope to be back some day.

A wee bit of heaven on earth
Jay and Anita have created (along with the amazing scenery) a lovely, peaceful, and relaxing get away. They have developed a great system for welcoming people to their place, clearly honed over the years. They surrounding area is gorgeous - we spent most of our time outside just loving the land, sky, and animals that live in the area.

Rose cottage under open skies
We were blown away by the warmth that Jay and Anita brought to our experience of Rose Cottage. The house is so well done, with attention to every little detail one can think of. Jay and Anita not only left us a dozen fresh farm eggs from their own farm and bread, the house had everything you need to cook with including a zillion condiments. We felt entirely at home, and the gorgeous setting just added to it further. We enjoyed the deck, with its view and all of the beautiful birds. Leo the majestic peacock made an appearance one morning spending quite a bit of time around us. The fire pit and breathtaking night sky made the nights incredible. We'll be back soon, because one stay was not enough to soak in this lovely place. Our stay at Rose Cottage was magical, and we will cherish it for years to come.

About the host

Hosted by owner/property manager

Host profile image
Jay is retired from a landscape gardening career, and from a second career in the water quality field. He has lived and worked in Rockbridge County most of his life and has accumulated a wealth of information and stories about the area and its people.

Why they chose this property

Rose Cottage is a comfortable, quiet and spacious home with beautiful views of rolling fields and the Blue Ridge Mountains. There is access to a woodland path for those who enjoy a relaxing walk. The night sky is amazing.

What makes this property unique

The Rose Cottage is one minute away from US Rt. 11, about 5 minutes from Interstate 81/64, and yet it is very private. It sits in a rural neighborhood at the end of a lane with only two other homes. The Cottage is midway between the historic small cities of Lexington and Staunton, each about a twenty minute drive. Four Rockbridge County colleges (Washington & Lee University, Virginia Military Institute, Southern Virginia University, and Dabney S. Lancaster Community College) provide a depth of cultural events and entertainment not often experienced in small towns. In Staunton, Mary Baldwin College is prominently situated in the town. The entire area is rich in natural beauty and opportunities for outdoor activities.
