About this property

Historic Home - Private 28 Acres - 180° Ocean View! - Bob's Suite

The panoramic view of Kachemak Bay from Turkington Estate's private 28 acres is one of the most breathtaking views you can experience while visiting Homer. Grewingk Glacier, Poots Peak, Gull Island, the Homer Spit and more; they're all visible!

Guests might enjoy going for a stroll around the property exploring the various flora that grows wild, picking a snack of wild raspberries from the raspberry patch in the late summer and fall, sit out on the deck and watch the sun set in the late summer evenings or read the diary entries and view photos from the Turkington family's adventures to Alaska in Model A's from Connecticut 70 years ago.

The Turkington's are 4th Generation Alaskans/Homerites and we love the last frontier. We're thrilled you stopped by our website to learn more about the Estate. We hope you'll choose to spend part of your Alaskans adventure with us!

Amazing Views & Relaxing Property

The photos did not do justice to this property. Great location and Joyce, the owner, checked on us after arrival. Just a nice added touch along with some raspberry jam from the yard. The views were amazing. If we ever get back to Homer, we would definitely stay here again and again!!!

Beautiful property

Beautifully spacious house with the best view. The kids loved being able to run around playing tag on the property and picking the raspberries. We had a wonderful time and plan on renting it again in the future. The hosts were very friendly, asked about my children so they could make sure and leave some age appropriate toys abs puzzles for us, and very quick to respond to questions.

sand Cranes and rasberries and extra treat

As we have been camping for four nights, the luxury at Turlington Estates was very enjoyable. We arrived to see a flock of sand hill cranes land in the hayfield in front of us, which was absolutely delightful. Joyce met us and welcomed us to her beautiful neighborhood. We picked some fresh raspberries for our breakfast cereal in the morning, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the beautiful katchemak bay.

Great Location and Great Views

We had an excellent time dugout stay. The property was conveniently located near Homer and easy access to nearby restaurants. We loved the views of the glacier from the front yard and the hosts were awesome. If you’re looking for a place to stay in this area we can highly recommend.

Alaska Getaway

We came to Homer to visit family that had just moved there and let our kids see Alaska for the first time. The house is comfortable and has the best view. Joyce tries to help answer any questions and is there to help. We loved seeing the wild life that comes into the property. We had a mama moose and baby that came by the house almost daily. I wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else when visiting Homer!

Nice place for the weekend

The house was very nice, it is set up for 4 large men, if you have wives then you can double up on the beds. The place is very cozy and nice, it is dated but for a place to stay and a nice place to come back to the view is amazing. The owners are very nice folks and take care of everything. There is a view of the glacier in Homer from the house that just makes you relax on the front deck. It was well worth it.

Wow! Peaceful, serene, private, beautiful!

Commanding views of Kachemak Bay and Grewingk Glacier. For a few fishermen visiting Homer for the first time, this home was perfect. After being on the water all day fishing, it was so nice to return to this very comfortable secluded property. Enjoy a beer on the deck. Watch the cranes take off and land in the field below and stare out across the bay at a living postcard. The home is nicely appointed with everything you need for a very comfortable stay. It's not state of the art, high end appliances, fixtures and furniture. It's Alaska. It's very comfortable, very relaxing and very inviting. Plenty of room to spread out and find your space after being cramped on a boat all day. Alan and Joyce were wonderful hosts, making sure we had everything we needed, including homemade jam from the raspberry garden. We will be back for sure!

Comfortable, clean!!!, beautiful, spacious

Spent the weekend here with family and friends (group of 7), rented the entire house. Decor is older, but does not feel dated, actually more asthetically pleasing in person than the pictures reflect. IMMACULATELY clean!!! Reminds me of my grandmother's house. Beautiful view. Raspberry patch guests are welcome to pick. Joyce, the proprietor, welcomed us on our arrival. Price reasonable for such a nice space. We usually stay on the spit in a beach condo there. I would Preferentially stay here in future.

About the host

Hosted by Joyce Turkington

Host profile image
Hi, we're the Turkington family. We're 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation Alaskans. Our father/grandfather Robert Turkington first came to Alaska in 1946 in Model A's all the way from Hartford Connecticut. The military was still punching in a road through Canada so that they could get vital supplies to Alaska to defend her from the Japanese who had invaded the Aleutian Islands. With his military permit granted to him to travel the road, he struggled through muddy mucky roads all the way to Alaska. He eventually made his way down the Kenai Peninsula to Homer and fell in love. He soon returned to Connecticut, married our mother/grandmother Carolyn and moved her back to Homer. Back then there wasn't much here and you had to be a real pioneer to make a living. He eventually purchased 300 acres in homer just out east end road where the Turkington Estate resides today. This is where we all grew up and spent most of our lives and continue to live and play to this day.

Bob and Carolyn's children and grandchildren now care for 28 acres of some of the last land owned by Bob and Carolyn. They are as follows:

Bob and Carolyn's eldest son and his wife
Alan and Joyce Turkington

Their eldest daughter and her husband Joy and Jason Huffman and their 4 children Braden, Riley, Kyern and Tegan.

Their Eldest Son Scott and his wife Hester Turkington and their Daughter Juneau

Their youngest daughter Treva Huff

And their youngest son Matthew Turkington

We're excited to share our one of a kind Alaskan experience and to help others have their own Alaskan adventure! If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact us! We look forward to you staying with us!

Why they chose this property

Turkington Estate is part of the last remaining acres of Bob and Carolyn Turkington's original 360 Acre Dairy Farm they bought. Bob first came to Alaska in 1946. He drove from Hartford Connecticut in Model A's and eventually found his way down to Homer. He fell in love and knew this is where he wanted to live. He soon returned to Connecticut, married Carolyn and brought her back to Homer in 1948. The Estate is now in the care of Bob and Carolyn's eldest son Alan, wife Joyce, their 4 children and 5 grandchildren.

Turkington Estate's B&B was Bob and Carolyn's home which the family has converted into a Rental for guests to experience this unique property. The home has been separated into an upstairs and downstairs unit. This listing is for the upstairs unit of the home, which gives you over 1500 sq ft of living space. It has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, large living room, full kitchen, dinning area, laundry room, front balcony, and a spacious back deck!

The way the sun plays off of the snow covered mountain peaks, glaciers and clouds across the bay, you'll have a front row seat to some of the most spectacular sunrises and sunsets Alaska has to offer.
Grewink Glacier, Poots Peak, Gull Island, the Homer Spit and more, they're all visible from the Estate. Through the summer months it's not uncommon to see a mamma moose and her young stroll through the property, an eagle soar overhead in search of a meal or have a flock of Sandhill Crane land in the field and forage for food with their young.

Guests might enjoy going for a stroll around the property exploring the various flora that grows wild, picking a snack of wild raspberries from the raspberry patch in the late summer and fall, sit out on the deck and watch the sun set in the late summer evenings or read Carolyn's diary entries and view photos from the Turkington family's adventures to Alaska in Model A's from Connecticut 70 years ago.

The Turkington's are 4th Generation Alaskans/Homerites and we love the last frontie
