We had another wonderful weekend! The house is perfectly appointed, the home is clean and welcoming. The property is beautiful. Communication with our hosts was easy and we were able to arrange an early check-in. This is now our fourth time staying in this home and we cannot wait to return. An absolute gem.
Perfect blend of privacy and accessibility. House was clean and comfortable and has everything a family would need for a great vacation. We all loved it
Great location in the heart of the Berkshires. The house is secluded (can’t see a single neighbor) yet just minutes from anything you want or need. Flexible space easily accommodated our family weekend (even when we were snowed in). Great communication with our host.
My wife and I (and our large golden retriever!) spent a delightful month at Valentine Lane. The property is located just minutes from downtown Stockbridge on a beautiful piece of land down a long private driveway and has a giant backyard that both we and our dog adored. The house is spacious, very well-maintained, and stocked with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We particularly loved the porch area and the “she shed” that made a great separate office (super helpful as we were both working remotely during the week). Alison the host is terrific — extremely responsive (often getting back to us within minutes) and full of useful information about the house and surrounding area. Overall we had such a wonderful stay and would highly recommend it!
Where to begin and what to add that hasn't already been shared?
The approach up the driveway to Modern Cottage activates a feeling of intrigue. At this point, what lies around the bend is a photo that may or may not look as advertised.
As soon as a sight line is established, a feeling of a warmth washes over as the house extends an inviting embrace and lures you in to indulge in a peaceful and relaxing setting.
This home may look small from the exterior, but there are ample bonuses that await once you step through the front door. The private deck off the upper level master bedroom that overlooks the backyard. The bonus she shed and the amenities that go with it. The backyard space and deck. The artwork over the bed in the den area was a conversation and a piece that was shared with younger family members that could not make the trip.
Modern Cottage is versatile. It is amply appointed and we were sorry our visit was not longer. The hosts (Alison and Robert) are excellent.
This is the property you want to stay at if a trip to the Berkshires is in the cards.
We loved this rental. It was clean, comfortable, spacious, and the LOCATION was perfect. We skied butternut and catamount, hung out in great Barrington, and the house was close to everything. It is in the center of it all- and yet feels very private and remote. The hosts were very responsive, and we would certainly return.
This was our 5th time as guests and we couldn't be happier with our experience! The loveliest home with the most thoughtful hosts. You won't find a better Berkshires rental.
This was the perfect spot for our weekend getaway to the Berkshires. The location is easy to find and close to the town. Check in was a breeze. The home is roomy and well appointed. We enjoyed the books and art. The yard is spacious and lovely and the area very quiet. The hosts are helpful and communication is excellent!
This place was perfect for a family weekend while we attended a wedding. It was spotlessly clean, comfortable and lovely and the hosts were very kind and accommodating. Loved the back porch and quiet setting. Thanks for a restful weekend.
We had a wonderful stay in Stockbridge. The house is incredibly clean, comfortable, and peaceful. It’s also really well-located. The hosts were communicative and very helpful. We’d love to return!

Great location, dirty, no heat in frigid weather
We had high expectations of this property given the 5-star reviews it received. It's a well-stocked, large home and the little shed is fantastic. The location is convenient to most places.
However, our stay was suboptimal, to put it kindly. When we arrived, the heat on the lower level was not working. The weather outside was around 20F and we had young children. It seemed like the power had gone out before we arrived as the time was wrong on the microwave/stove/etc. We called the property owners who arranged for the heating company to come out the next day. Not a great start --- we had to build a fire, which ended up making the lower floor extremely smokey since the fireplace wasn't enclosed. Rusty water had dripped through the masterbath vents onto the floor. The shower curtains were nasty and the master tub had a ring around it - clearly not cleaned prior to our arrival. The vents were filthy, multiple rooms had cobwebs and spiders on the ceiling, and the sofa/carpets had pet hairs on them. The floors were so dirty that the socks we wore indoors were stained quickly. We developed horrible dust allergies due to the dirt and unclean vents, and had to resort to antihistamines to make our trip bearable. The irony in all of this is that this place charges a hefty cleaning fee and requires insurance to book a visit. The owner stated that the place was cleaned after the last group of visitors left, which she claimed was a week prior to our arrival. I find it very strange that they didn't even bother to walk-through prior to our arrival, or notice on their remote temperature app that the place was frigid. This is a lovely place on the surface, but dirty and dangerous if you have allergies/young children. The owners provided a refund for the first night; I wish I could have my time back as I would have stayed at a place that wasn't a health hazard and was properly maintained. Stay here at your own risk. Unfortunately VRBO doesn't allow for picture uploads in reviews, but the VRBO team were grossed out by the pictures we sent them. I hope the owners clean this place properly so that folks here in the future don't put their health at risk.
My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The access to Stockbridge was easy and the acccomodations were perfect for our group of 6. We would all highly recommended Alison and her property to all considering a stay in the Berkshires.
The house and grounds are lovely - so charming! It was also very clean, well organized and stocked, and conveniently located. The owner, Alison, was terrific to communicate with and couldn't have been kinder. We look forward to staying at this wonderful property in the future!
Enjoyed our stay in Alison's very comfortable home. Backyard was large and fire pit a winner. Great place for a family to stay with lots of room. Overall location is good, close to Stockbridge and other quaint towns.
Alison, our host, was so accommodating and such a pleasure to work with. The house was lovely, cozy, comfortable and charming with all the amenities anyone could ask for. I gave this place a five-star rating and I would have gone higher if I could have. We were close to everyplace we wanted to see, information about the surroundings was readily available with recommendations from our host also. We only wish we could have stayed longer; we had an incredible time and thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated your hospitality! Your home is awesome; thank you for everything!

About the host
Hosted by Alison Baker & Robert Podgursky
We are a fun-loving family of 6 (two parents, two kids, a pug an an old english sheepdog) who share an absolute love of the Berkshires, "our happy place". Nothing beats hanging out under a shady tree while the kids frolic in the lake or a hike that ends in a waterfall. We live full- time in Maplewood, NJ.
We warmly welcome adults (and dogs) of any ethnicity, color, religion and sexual orientation.
Why they chose this property
It was love at first sight. It's such a cute home! It has the perfect balance of privacy and comfort while being a quick drive to amazing restaurants and all the Berkshires have to offer. My kids love the large backyard.
What makes this property unique
Location and modern amenities such as central air, which is wonderful on hot days. This house is suitable for a "working vacation" because of the excellent Wifi and office shed but it is also an ideal place for unwinding and discovering the Berkshires. The house is very kid-friendly and all dogs, even big ones are considered.
