About this property
Stunning mid-century modern home by the beach in Portobello, Edinburgh
The apartment is a beautiful private home made available only for a few weeks whilst I’m travelling. My good friend Anne will take care of your needs in my absence.
The centre of the beautiful city of Edinburgh is only a 20-minute bus ride away. The bus stop is located 1 minute away - across the road from the apartments; and has frequent and inexpensive buses into the city (or out east to the countryside, golf courses, castles and beaches of East Lothian).
If you stay in my home, I know you’ll love it - it’s a real cracker of a place to be!
My guest room is a bright double bedroom, which can be set up either to have a double bed or 2 generous singles. Duvets and pillows are duck down with cotton sheets. There is also a good quality sofa bed in the living room if you want to have a guest or two staying for a few nights.
The spacious and bright lounge seats 5 people and includes a lovely dining area, which accommodates 4 people.
You’ll have full access to those useful little things provided when staying in a real home, whether you want a relaxing or social night ‘in’, entertaining friends, cooking in my bespoke fitted kitchen and eating in the dining area. Or get a take-away, chill out and enjoy a large TV, DVD player and stereo.
If you want to get out or get active, then I’ve got lots of detailed Ordinance Survey maps and guide books to Scotland – for any exploring you want to do.
In return, I hope that you enjoy your stay, and take care of and respect my home. Specifically, this means: no shoes indoors, no parties - this includes Hogmanay parties - no pets, no smoking and no children. If meeting my needs doesn't suit your holiday needs – please look and book elsewhere.
Wherever you stay and whatever you do – enjoy our lovely city, surrounds, sights and culture and haste ye’ back (Scots greeting for ‘hurry back’).
The Local Area:
The area of Portobello / Joppa is well serviced with a range of local amenities including cafes, restaurants, pubs, shops and leisure facilities - including a locals’ favourite - the Portobello Swim Centre which also has a gym and lovely old Turkish baths.

The bus stop is located 1 minute away - across the road from the apartments; and has frequent and inexpensive buses into the city (or out east to the countryside, golf courses, castles and beaches of East Lothian). Edinburgh is famed throughout the world for architecture, culture, history, food, rugged beauty and of course, for the world famous Hogmanay (New Year's) Party, which takes place in the centre of Edinburgh and which people from all over the world flock to!
With so many things to do / see / eat / taste / enjoy in Edinburgh itself, you’ll not be bored. But aside from seeing Edinburgh - what else will you pick to do from an endless list of day-trip opportunities that are close by?
A 3 day mini-break will rejuvenate and exhaust you - but you’ll only just get a glimpse of life here. Give yourself one week – or more - and you’ll understand why Edinburgh is THE most popular place to live and visit in the UK (outside of London – but that doesn’t count!).
We are blessed with great natural resources and interesting places for day-trips away. By car, bus, train and bike you can easily access Glasgow, St Andrews’ or explore the rural neighbouring regions of East Lothian, the Borders and Fife or travel further north to the Highlands or Northumberland on a longer day-tour.
Pick and mix from: picturesque Scottish towns and villages, old castles, historic places & ruins, stunning wild beaches, woodlands, great walks, fantastic cycling (quiet roads or world-class mountain bike tracks), arts and crafts, museums, great food/ eateries, sea-based day-trip/ wildlife excursions, local festivals (history, gin, beer, food, all-things-Scottish, etc.)
