This is our second time at this property, and we had a wonderful stay & visit w/family friends. It's a perfect size for us & our dog was welcome too & having the fenced in yard was perfect!
It was just what we needed for the weekend. The owners were responsive and accomodated our request. It was clean and the size and location worked great for us. The property was quirky but included evrything we needed. More lighting between the gate and the front door would be really awesome.

Be careful to fully read the property description
We looked forward to our month at Cranberry Cottage. Check-in went fine. The description of the cottage stated "freshly remodeled". Reading the description further it said the work was done in 2015, 9 years ago. The description and reviews emphasized how clean it was. This is why we chose this unit over others. We opened the front door and were immediately overwhelmed by a dank, musty smell. The single a/c unit in the hallway froze us. The rest of the cottage was uncomfortably hot. A dehumidifier in the kitchen ran continuously and heated it in the process. The kitchen was not clean. We tried to put groceries away but found dead cockroaches on shelves and we removed a lot of dirt when we wiped them off. Food had to stay packed in our boxes. We tried to fall asleep and couldn't. At 4am we packed the car and left. The host was responsive to us, but true communication was lacking.
His suggestions, including us paying for commercial cleaners, were unacceptable. We continued our vacation (we stayed at the cottage for 8hrs but we had paid for 28 days) staying at motels. We returned occasionally to see if the odor was gone. There was less, but still too much for us. The description of the cottage is misleading and the host, while responsive, did virtually nothing towards a solution. A very expensive mistake that we will not repeat.
My daughter, myself, and my fury friend had a wonderful visit! The house was perfect for us! The host had great communication with me! I left my grandson book and they are mailing it to me. Will definitely stay again next year!
we walked all over the small town of black mountain and hiked the trails too…the house was great and we LOVED the shaded yard with a fence for our dog.
Cozy cabin and the dogs loved the fenced yard. Black Mountain was a great town and we had lots of fun exploring all around the area. We will definitely book again!
There were a couple of issues which have been resolved. One was during our stay(didn’t know how to work the tv/Roku). Messaged then spoke with Bill and was able to understand how to work things. I would suggest having a written step by step instruction there at the house for others in case it’s needed.
There was a another issue which was addressed and corrected after we left.
Bill was always available to help us.
We enjoyed our stay and the wine was a very nice touch.
Black Mtn is definitely our happy place.
Cute cottage close to downtown. You can walk to town, although some of the way there is no sidewalk. Several choices for food and entertainment, some had live music. The cottage is located very close to Graybeard trail and Outlook trail and not too far from other things to do. The yard is completely fenced. That was nice since we stayed with dogs. There is a front porch area and fire pit. The cottage is right on the street corner so there is some level of traffic noise, and the fenced yard helps reduce the traffic noise. The place is a little quirky. It was clean and comfortable. Everything worked as expected. Kitchen had enough plates and silverware. We enjoyed our stay.

Disappointed
The property was said to be walkable into Black Mountain. It was not. The yard was unkempt and unattractive. The accommodations were only adequate and not attractive. The kitchen was lacking enough drinkware. However, the owner has been responsive to me after the fact and has taken my critique in stride.

Noisy and uncomfortable
The property was on a busy, noisy street bombarded with passing car headlights. Environmental controls did little for cohesive comfort. Some rooms uncomfortably cool and others too warm at the same time. The property had no pedestrian access, the only way to walk anywhere would be to share the road with cars at a high rate of speed. There was excessive noise by neighbor's with idling loud motorcycles and noisy ceiling fans and a dehumidifier that made it hard to hear the television which didn't work for the first 24 hours or to hear another person speaking. For the cost, I would never recommend it.
I was so appreciative of Bill and Laura's communication and willingness to work with us. Our pet sitter had backed out last minute and they were willing to let us bring our small pack of puppers! The fenced-in yard was a big hit for the dogs and the simple, but elegant interior was perfect for my fiance and I for just stretching out at the end of the day. Highly recommend this property!
The entire property was enclosed with a tall, solid fence so we felt closed in with no view.
The bed is more of a cot that sank somewhat...making getting in and out somewhat of a challenge.
TV was through Roku rather than cable as advertised.
Those being the worst, it was a pleasant time for us...it was very clean, the owner was very responsive to our inquiries and it was quiet. Everything worked for us.
Easy arrival ,off street parking was great! Fenced in back yard was perfect for the pups so clean! ! The cottage was perfect clean quiet well equipped A/C work perfect and beautifully maintained! Location was perfect close to town and a short walk to a restaurant! We will be back and did I say clean!!! Also we where also luck no one was coming in and could check out later! Thank you so much!
This was a great property. Clean and just as advertised. We had everything we needed. Once you went in the fence it was very private but close to town. It was a great stay and we would stay again.
Lovely cozy cottage great for one or two people. The house is as described and you are within a mile of the main area. Bill Alexander was a kind a gracious host.
This is our 3rd time staying at cranberry cottage and we enjoyed this stay just as much as the last 2! We were greeted with a snack, bottle of wine and fresh eggs. The electric fireplace is also a nice touch in the winter. We already booked another weekend! Go to my fathers pizza and ask for Lettie! Food is delicious and her service is amazing!

We love to travel and love to cater to other travelers coming to visit our beautiful area. We live in Asheville but frequent Black Mountain often to visit our parents who live there, to hike our favorite trails and simply to enjoy the small mountain village vibe thats just a few minutes from Asheville. We manage our rentals as a large family operation often letting our 11 and 8 year old girls assist as well as sometimes calling on my parents to help as they live less than a mile away. We look forward to hosting you at our cottage.
Why they chose this property
This is the place for a couple, or close friends, who want to visit the Asheville/ Blue Ridge area; and not be car-dependent for shopping and dining, yet maintain quiet privacy indoors and out. it is cozy, safe, comfortable. Someone will enjoy Cranberry Cottage if they visit the restaurants and music venues that are within walking distance, enjoy hiking or driving the Blue Ridge Parkway, and want a compact one bedroom Cottage comfortable for two people and a great private yard for pets or a child.
What makes this property unique
Cranberry Cottage is close in to downtown Black Mountains , 10-15 minutes to Asheville, in a quiet wooded residential area , yet very private and secure for visiting children(2 or 4 legged)! South facing double-double doors face the southern Swannanoa mountains yet the cottage is covered in the shade of 100 year old hardwoods. Great gas grill, sitting area, firepit outdoors. Easy parking. Very, Very safe area.
