About this property

FAB PALACE WITH IMPRESSIVE VIEWS, GARDEN, POOL BEHIND TOLEDO CATHEDRAL

Palacio Munarriz is located in the old town of Toledo, 22 MINUTES BY AVE FROM THE ATOCHA DE MADRID STATION, which in turn is located in the heart of the Museums of the capital.
Despite being in Toledo, given its proximity to Madrid, many of our tenants stay here and visit Madrid during the day, along with Toledo, which is a great city.
The palace is located five minutes walk from the Cathedral of Toledo, in a privileged situation and with magnificent views.
It consists of a large entrance, a staircase that leads to the main floor, three double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, three large living rooms, an indoor dining room, another dining room in a patio, full kitchen, laundry area, toilet guests A wonderful garden and its pool overlooking the Tajo valley. The pool is open in summer time. From June until September. It has a garage for two cars, they cannot be big because the access through the old town of Toledo is complicated, so we recommend coming from Madrid on the AVE fast train, but if you want to come by car there is a garage.
It is a real gem in the old town of Toledo.
You can enjoy all the areas that appear in the photos. A couple of caretakers live in a house independent from the house that will give them total privacy, but if they need it, they can assist them with questions or contact the property. The pool is for the exclusive use of the tenants. It is open during the season.
It is next to the Cathedral, in one of the most beautiful areas of the Old Town of Toledo. From Madrid you can come by AVE, whose price is very low and it takes about 22 minutes, and walk around the city on foot, since using the car in the old town is practically unfeasible.
People who are not guests are not allowed to enter the house.

Spectacular Stay

This beautiful location was more than we could have dreamed of. Every room was stunning! The outdoor courtyard and pool were beautiful. Though large and spacious we felt comfortable and at home. We would recommend this location to anyone visiting Toledo!

Wonderful stay in Toledo

We traveled with four teenaged boys and had a wonderful time. The palace is magnificent. Rosario, our host, and the caretakers gave us wonderful hospitality. The pool was fabulous! The palace is truly a museum and we enjoyed viewing all of the beautiful art, architecture and furnishings.

More than lived up to expectations

Our visit to Palacio Munarriz and Toledo more than lived up to our expectations. The combination of Rosario's warm welcome, the extraordinarily furnished accommodations, with an innumerable, interesting pieces of art and furniture, and the glories of Toledo made out 48 hour visit much too short.

Immerse yourself in ancient Toledo

I’ve never stayed in a real palace before - and now I have! This experience drops you right into ancient Toledo close to all the sites and city center. But you also get to relax in luxury with beautiful fountains, your own pool and more historic art than you can shake a stick at.

An Oasis

The Palacio is as advertised. If you relish the joy of discovery, you will love this unique property. You can explore this historically significant estate for hours, even days, and never be bored. The garden, courtyard, and grounds are an absolute oasis of tranquility. The bedrooms are quiet and comfortable, and have all of the modern amenities. Rosario was wonderful to work with, and Hicham and Carol are very gracious caretakers. I would not hesitate to stay at this property again.

Highlight of our trip to Spain

My daughter and I loved staying in the Palacio and chose it for its beauty and historical nature. There is so much to study, explore, and admire about this home. We enjoyed every room - ate our meals together in the formal dining room - experienced eating at a super long table, played checkers with the chess set, read and had cocktails in the “Red Room”, basked in the sun and comfort of the “TV Room”, and took in the tranquility of the living room. The courtyard was especially nice to sit in when the sun shone down on it in the afternoons. The beds were beautiful and comfortable; plus, the sheets and blanket coverings were perfect. The location is an easy walk to any- and everything Toledo has to offer. We completely enjoyed our stay and would definitely rebook this Palacio in the future.

Wonderful Stay in Toledo

How to begin? The palace is an absolutely wonderful, unique place to stay in Toledo! From the moment of booking, Rosario was very kind and professional, and communicated with us as needed. Hicham, the guard who lives on sight, was available for any questions but never intruded. We felt honored to be guests in such an historic location! The home is very well equipped with anything one might need in the kitchen and bedrooms. The beautiful, peaceful, private patio is perfect for cocktails, meals, or just relaxing. Indeed, it was hard to leave each morning! Staying at the palace gave special meaning to being in beautiful Toledo. We hope to return!

Unforgettable Stay in the Middle of Toledo

Staying at this property is an experience to make memories through. Imagine exploring the 2000+ years of history in Toledo and the incredible art, and then retreating to an oasis in the middle of the city. The palace could be a museum itself and we loved exploring its' treasures. Even more I enjoyed relaxing in the courtyard with a priceless view of the Cathedral and city. We stayed in late March to early April. The flowers and trees were just blooming, and a wonderful subtle fragrance filled the air. Birds were singing and coming to the fountain for a drink. At night, the Cathedral was lit up. I would have to have pages to describe this stay. It is one of a kind. I am so thankful to Rosario for sharing this unique one of a kind restored palace with me and my family.

Palacio Munarriz - Toledo

First, our host Rosario was wonderful. She provided advice on travel to the palace, sights to see in Toledo, day trips to Madrid, food markets and finally restaurants. The housekeepers Hicham and Carol were available 24/7 to help with questions regarding our stay at the palace and were very helpful. As for the property, it is difficult to provide a succinct response other than to say "Spectacular"! It provided all of the conveniences for a comfortable stay. The art work displayed in the palacio could rival a first rate museum. And finally the courtyard grounds provided stunning views of Old-town Toledo. We were simply overwhelmed with it's beauty. It was truly an experience of a life time. Muchas gracias Rosario, Hicham and Carol!

Unique But Very Comfortable

Our family of five stayed at the Palacio just after Christmas. Rosario met us on arrival and gave us a tour of the property, which was nicely decorated for Christmas with a tree, poinsettias, etc. The size of the property is overwhelming at first, but we soon settled in and very much enjoyed the charm and comfort of having separate areas for sleeping, cooking and dining (fireplace), lounging/reading (fireplace), and sitting outside in the beautiful courtyard with reflecting pool. The housekeeper Hachim took good care of us and made sure fires were burning in the dining and lounge rooms every morning and evening. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked (we stayed in one night and made our own Arroz con Pollo using ingredients and vino from the local Mercado just up the hill). Overall a very pleasant stay in a very central part of Toledo.. we highly recommend!

Unique Experience… My OWN Palace ?!!?

Not many people can actually say they had an entire Palace to themselves for their Holiday… and it certainly will be a memory I hold onto forever. The property isn’t for everyone… but if you appreciate history, antiques, art and the idea your footsteps walk amongst ones for centuries before, then this is an experience that you will be thankful for. What I loved most was the outdoor space, the views, wondering the hallways intrigued by the ceilings, art and various rooms. I was fascinated by the structure and the materials and quality of it all. The location was outstanding… Cathedral, groceries, wine & cheese shop and souvenirs all within a 5-10 min walk. You NEED to be very mobile in Toledo as there are hills everywhere. We walked on an average 5 miles a day while in Spain. Toledo was the most strenuous and you need good sneakers or you will not do well. The sleeping arrangements worked well for us (2 couples) with 3 bedrooms all en-suite. The mattresses are firm. There are air conditioning units in each of the bedroom areas, which are all off of one shared hallway. The bathrooms had nice natural light and good hot water. The WiFi worked well in sleeping quarters and outside. The Host Rosario was lovely, accommodating and easy to reach. Her caretakers were friendly and helpful. I’m thankful for the experience to stay in a Palace and grateful for people like Rosario who put trust in renters like me, who want a little something different. It was our third time to Toledo and the best yet ! Looking forward to our visit next year already ! Thank you Rosario!

Everyone was more than accomodating. We all have said this is the most spectacular destination to be allowed the privaledge in which to stay. Treat yourself. You will not be disappointed.

Unforgettable experience!

Well worth the splurge! Photos capture the grandeur, but difficult to describe this amazing property. It is so extensive, one of our group was briefly lost in the Palazzo! Rosario and household staff couldn't have been quicker in responding to any questions. Although museum-like, the property is highly functional and has cozy nooks where we enjoyed fires in the fireplaces. The kitchen is well-equipped. The location is wonderful. The street itself is quiet, but very close to the Cathedral and grocery store. A wonderful experience!

Great experience!

We were very pleased with the property and service. Rosario is lovely and responsive. The palace is an amazing piece of history and feels like a walk back in time (to both the 1500s and 1950s simultaneously). The location of the place is great. And the outdoor space is 6 stars. It’s an oasis from the tourists. The larger rooms of the palace are quite grand, but just be aware that the sleeping quarters are very very modest.

truly amazing, just breathtaking

We had wanted somewhere special to stay, the Palace is extra special, just incredible. The interior rooms are large, spacious and beautifully decorated. The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you need to cook, there are well stocked supermarkets 10mins walk and a variety of good restuarants also a few mins walk. The air conditioned bedrooms are comfortable, with lovely crisp bedlinen & all bathrooms have soft white towels, everywhere & everything is clean, immaculate! The outside space is just as large & opulent, sunny terraces, secluded shady areas & lush vegetation. The high stone walls offer you peace & privacy, with fountains bubbling & flowering roses nodding in the warm breeze, this is an oasis. In the mornings we would wander the cobbled streets of this ancient city, museums, bell towers, churches and monasteries all a short walk away. The afternoons were spent relaxing either in, or by the pool, which was cleaned daily. Rosario was quick to respond to queries, booking was easy, Carol & Hicham are always available, not that we had any problems. Thank you Rosario we have had the most incredible time our best holiday Ever! We had wanted somewhere special and we found it here in Palacio Munarriz it is a little piece of Heaven, Perfect!

Living in a Palace in Toledo Spain

It is hard to say enough nice things about this incredible rental in Toledo. It was actually a palace built in the 1500’s, ultimately looted and in disrepair, then fully reconstructed in the 1950’s and filled with art, sculptures, and antiques salvaged from churches, etc. Located less than a 5 min (uphill) walk to the cathedral, in the center of everything. Three comfortable bedrooms with AC, with many more rooms to explore along with and inner courtyard and dining table under a tree canopy, an outdoor courtyard with many chairs and tables to relax, and an elevated pool and sitting area with broad views of the town and cathedral. Rosario, the owner, and Hicham, the caretaker who lives in a section connected to the property, were incredibly helpful and available throughout our stay. One note, the streets around the home in Toledo are extremely narrow and GPS/ cellular map data gets very confused in the area - Rosario can give you a detailed map and video on the best way to get the unit - I recommend you study it thoroughly and follow it rather than your GPS- mine led me on a path I thought would wedge my car into and never get out.... Anyway, if you are a bit adventurous and looking for a fantastic place to stay, I highly recommend Palace Munarriz (this place!), my family of 5 loved it and was very comfortable.

Palace vacation

We stayed two nights at this gorgeous Palace. This was without a doubt the most interesting and beautiful house we’ve ever seen, with a tremendous history behind it. Hicham and Carol made sure that we were taken care of, and were very helpful getting a cab for us when we were checking out. Everything was perfect! If you decide to spend time in Toledo, you will not be able to find a more beautiful property.

This is a truly wonderful and historic property. The rooms, the art and the gardens are splendid

Simply Superb And wonderful hospitality and help provided You could be in a museum yet it feels very relaxed. The rooms and all the art and the terraced gardens are all splendid. It may seem expensive but it is most certainly worth it The only very minor downside is that it takes a few mins to park and get car out each time Toledo and the surrounding towns inc aranjuez, Chinchon and Madrid (latter done by 30 min train from Toledo) provide for a very stimulating holiday

This is a magical place to stay

The palace has been in the hands of the family for many years and although it is large and opulent it nonetheless feels like a well loved family home. The photographs do not do justice to just how incredible the property is. Centrally located in Toledo, which is a magnificent city, all of the sites together with a variety of restaurants are on your door step. The pool area and garden are lush and verdant and the verandas provide a relaxing and welcome relief to sightseeing, offering the most amazing view of the cathedral, particularly at night. We were welcomed personally by the host who is both charming and knowledgeable. She remained in close contact during our stay to make sure we continued to be supported and she was assisted by the on-site custodians who were extremely friendly and helpful. In short, our stay was not just a holiday but also an experience; one that we feel very lucky to have enjoyed.

A real gem, definitely worth a visit.

We stayed at this house / palace in the old town of Toledo, very close to the cathedral for a weekend with a group of friends. When we arrived, and despite having previously seen the photos, we could not believe our eyes: the palace is much bigger and more stunning than expected, the pictures simply don't do it justice. Everything is cared for to the out-most extent: the gardens, the statues, the art and decorations that cover the property - both in the common areas and the bedrooms. The bedroom and bathroom equipped to provide comfort to the highest level and the service was just top-notch. We were debating as to whether to go by train from Madrid (faster and very cheap) or by car, as the house has parking space and the friendly owners gave us very easy to follow instructions to get there, so we took the car just in case; this was our only mistake as seeing the narrow streets of the city centre and how well located the property is (no need for a car at all), we would probably choose the train next time. Definitely worth a visit, no doubt about it.

Why they chose this property

Es una propiedad única al lado de la Catedral de Toledo, en el centro histórico de la ciudad- Sus vistas son impresionantes, sobretodo al atardecer viendo iluminada la Catedral.

What makes this property unique

The original owner of this house was Rodrigo Niño Lasso, Lord of Añover, and member of the Order of Santiago. The palace situated next to the church of “San Lorenzo”. Since the XVIII century, it has been known as the house or palace of “Munarriz”, honouring D. Andres de Munarriz, precentor and construction supervisor of the “Catedral Primada”. Under his same mandate, the famous “campana gorda” was fused. He was one of the first to ever write in basque.

Half way through the XX century the ruined state in which the building found itself forced the front of the house to be propped, which helped in the granting of the permits needed for the subsequent selling and transfer to the entrance known as “Cigarral del Santo Angel Custodio”, where one today can appreciate it.

During the 1950s, the successful architect and historian Fernando Chueca Goitia took care of the rehabilitation and reconstruction off the building for his personal use as his dwelling. In 1959 the following pictures were taken of the works, the absence of the cover, which had already been transferred to the “Cigarral del Angel Custodio”, can be clearly seen.

The restoration did not spare materials and as a result, the old building practically disappeared, all of which was susceptible of being preyed upon, whats left are the main rooms, their plaster-works and renaissance wrought woods, one could say that today the new building is one of the most beautiful ones in the area, with a stone front similar to the original and excellent finishing touches -the grid is formidable- both the exterior and interior of the palace.
