About this property

Cosy, traditiional stone cottage in Glen Nevis with wood burning stove.

Shepherd's Cottage sits in Glen Nevis, at the start of the Ben Nevis footpath. Fenced within its own garden this stone-built 17th century cottage has good views over Glen Nevis.
The cottage now also has wifi access.
It has a particularly traditional atmosphere including a wood burning stove ( complimentary basket of logs ).
There are two main rooms and a bathroom all with heating. The bedroom has a king-sized double bed, bedside cupboards, a chest of drawers, a wardrobe, two chairs and a radio. The other main room is the sitting room / well equipped kitchen. There is a dining table and two chairs, a settee, coffee table, well stocked bookcase and a television. The bathroom contains a toilet, wash-hand basin and bathtub with shower and a heated towel rail.
Across the drive the old stone barn has been converted into a walkers' bar/restaurant ( Ben Nevis Inn).
There's plenty of walking right from the door of the cottage if you don't want to use your car.
Walk up Ben Nevis; Explore Glen Nevis - along the river; the Lower Falls at Pollduh; Upper Glen Nevis Gorge and Steall Falls; the iron age hill fort site, Dun Deardail, on the hill opposite the cottage - just a few suggestions. We live at the farm house down the hill if you want any information about the area.
One mile from Fort William, Shepherd's Cottage is centrally located for day trips to, for example, the Isle of Skye and the white sandy beaches of Morar.
Take the steam train to Mallaig or a cable car up a mountain.
There are several golf courses close by. Visit the West Highland museum in Fort William or take a boat trip in Loch Linnhe.
We do not accept pets.

Excellent location & lovely cottage
Beautiful little cottage at the foot of Ben Nevis, tucked out of the way but so close to all amenities. Also very quiet at night considering it's next to the inn . The cottage had everything we needed for a lovely stay, the bed was extremely comfy and the cottage warm and cosy. Couldn't have asked for more and would definitely recommend/ try to visit again.

Cosy cottage in a fantastic location
Great communication and arrived to warm cottage with key in the door. All the needed kitchen appliances and a great log burner in the main room. A bathroom with choice of shower or bath. A comfortable bedroom and bed. Fab location in Glen Nevis close to outstanding Ben Nevis Inn, but importantly no noise disturbance! Very happy with our stay.

Cosy cottage perfect for two
We had a lovely Christmas holiday at Shepherds Cottage. It’s perfect for being cosy away from wintry Scottish weather, and a great base for exploring the local area.

Great!
This cottage was just idyllic- cozy, gorgeous setting, on a farm with sheep grazing, next to an inn with great food and drink, literally right by the Ben Nevis trail. Highly recommend!

Foothills of Ben Nevis
A lovely, cosy & comfortable cottage with all amenities. Basic provisions like milk & amazing brownies were provided!! Very picturesque location & quiet. You only have the bleeting sheep for company. The Ben Nevis inn is next door for a hearty meal. Amazing hiking, walking & cycling trails all round.. Thanks Scott and Heather, we had an amazing time.

Hike from the door of the cottage
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the sweet and exceptionally clean Shepard’s Cottage despite rain every day of our visit. We suited up with rain coats and pants and had fabulous hikes, one from the door of the cottage (loop down to the Glen Nevis River and back up to the beginning of the trail up Ben Nevis), up to Steall Falls from an upper car park on Glen Nevis, around Glencoe, and on the Isle of Skye. Important note: while the Ben Nevis Inn and pub is just across the lane from the cottage, the lane is private, so no traffic passes associated with the pub and the cottage is tucked in below where the noise and activity of the pub does not intrude. Finally, Scot and Heather are wonderful hosts, Scot with travel suggestions that suited us perfectly and Heather with the best brownies we’ve ever tasted.

Very nice little house in beautiful surroundings
We had a very nice week in this little house. We immediately felt at home. It is well equipped and clean. A good place for two people. A good place to explore the area and not only for people who want to climb the Ben Nevis (we did not). The scenery is stunning. You don't notice the car park in the back of the house, or people visiting the Inn. At night it is very quiet. We did not have the weather to sit outside. If you do, you will hear the airconditioning of the Inn. It is on during the day and evening. The house does not have a washing machine but Heather kindly offer to do any washing at her house. We recommend this place.

Best little getaway
Right at the foot of Ben Nevis, this place is amazing! Just the right size for 2 people or a single person, and it has everything you need. All the privacy of your own property too with the convenience of walking down the street to the farmhouse where the homeowners are should you need anything. And not to forget, directly next to the best restaurant you’ll find within 20 miles! 10/10 recommend

Perfect and Cozy
The cottage is perfectly located for climbing Ben Nevis but also for exploring the area. Don’t be put off by the close proximity of the Ben Nevis Inn, as you’d barely notice it was there! Hikers seeking refreshments don’t have energy to party. The cottage is very well equipped and has a choice of bath or shower. The bed is super comfy which is a must after long exhausting activity days. The front garden with beautiful views was often a place we sat and watched the sun set.

A delight…..!
I’ll sound repetitious,a wee cottage in the highlands. Grazing sheep as your neighbors. Easy shopping nearby, but the location makes you feel a league from Fort Williams. You aren’t far from the Fort's offerings, but your quiet nights and misty afternoons are ideal.

Just Perfect
We looked for a typical scottish cottage. This is just perfect for two. Although it's tiny, the cottage is very functional and well equiped. It's cosy and warm. The location is perfect at the foot of Ben Nevis and just 5' from town and all stores.

Cosy cottage Ben Nevis
We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful cottage a lot. Sheeps next door and located at the start of the Ben Nevis trail we loved spending days outdoors and when raining all day long in doors where it’s warm and relaxing to read, eat, watch Netflix in front of the fire place. On our daytrips to the coast by Arisaig or the Isle of Skye we drove through the most beautiful rough landscapes. We are most grateful to Heather and Scot. They are amazing and lovely and we hope to be back one day.

Great wee cottage
2nd time staying here, and if anything a wee bit better with the addition of the extra armchair in the living area. Cosy fire, comfy bed and a remarkable amount of storage for a small cottage. Location doesn’t disappoint either. Hope to be back for a 3rd time at some point.

Cosiness at it's best
If you are looking for a cosy cottage, curling up in front of an open fire with a glass of wine after a nice walk in the glen then this is the place to be. The location is superb. Next to the Ben Nevis Inn where you can have a meal if you don't like to cook yourself. The area is also a walkers paradise with the start of the Ben Nevis climb on your door step. The owners Scott and Heather are lovely people and very entertaining. Sorry Scott and Heather we are afraid you will definitely see us again. Haha. Bert and Mieke
