Darien/McIntosh County, immersed in history and surrounded in natural beauty. Explore our rivers, estuaries, undeveloped barrier islands, beaches and natural habitats. We boast one of the world's largest estuarine systems. Darien/McIntosh County is situated in a beautiful, unspoiled, ecological location that is virtually unrivaled in the state for the natural habitats that abound. Here is ‘Nature’s Favorite Coast!” The tidewaters are the nursery of the ocean…tiny shrimp, crustaceans and all species of fish! Spring finds dozens of baby dolphins in the Intra-coastal Waterway, learning to fish with their mothers and pods. Over 350 species of migratory birds can be found here making it a premier birding area. While we know you will find your favorite place in history whether it be Fort King George, Ashantilly or the Old Jail, Butler Plantation and rice fields along with the Huston House mansion, historic old churches, cemeteries, and tabby ruins on the waterfront; our best advice is sure to be dining on local cuisine at one of our restaurants, events or festivals. Sapelo Island makes for a wonderful day trip, but you must plan ahead for the tour and ferry trip. Don't miss Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge. Harris Neck NWR provides premier nesting, foraging, and wintering habitat for a diversity of wildlife. Signature species include threatened wood storks, which nest in a large colony on Woody Pond, and the colorful and uncommon painted bunting. Immerse yourself in a world where flowers bloom in every season, birds and butterflies abound and enjoy the small coastal town interests and environment.

Cute guest cottage, great property
Quiet little guest cottage located on some acreage that adjoins the main house and workshop. Its nicely located close to fishing, restaurants, boat ramps and a quick drive to historical locations. We were hopeful that we would have a view of the marsh, however there was none from the cottage. A short walk back to the main house (providing the family gives the OK) there is an overlook for a great sunset view. Also a short walk for addition beautiful views along the quiet road. Small house provided everything we needed, full kitchen & bath, 1 bedroom and a pull out sofa or enough room for a twin sized air mattress (which we brought for our kid). TV has a DVD player - i mention this because we did not pay attention to that and wish we would've brought some movies. We were only at the cabin at night as we were exploring during the day. Great place for dogs - lots of room to play. We really enjoyed it. (We stayed the week between Christmas and New Years - needed the heat, worked great!)

It was a nice out of the way spot that was super quiet. Wish could have stayed longer. Will admit Google doesn't make it easy to find but don't know that's the renter's fault ;) Thank you for everything.

wonderful pet friendly cottage
We enjoyed our two month stay (Jan-Feb) so much that we already booked it for next year. The owners are fantastic. The property is very quiet and peaceful. Plenty of places to walk, ride bike and just enjoy the marsh. Close to Darien, Brunswick and Jekyll Island is about a 45 minute drive at the most. We met a lot of wonderful people and made friendships that I hope last for years.

Quite Get A Way
Oaks of Eden was a cute little cottage nestled within the Live Oak trees and natural foliage. We found it very convenient for the two of us and our little dog. I enjoyed reading a book on the screen porch while my husband watched TV, both with a feeling of being secluded. We found lots of yard and side roads to walk our dog. The cottage was small, but kitchen & bathroom were efficiently set up. Bed and couch were both comfortable with good linens. We appreciated all the switches being labeled and the friendly guide book for suggestions on sightseeing and eating! We enjoyed our stay and would recommend to others.

Good for a short stay and place to lay your head at night.
Has all the necessities. But not designed to spend your days on the property. Luckily we have a dock and boat nearby to spend our days. Will likely stay again but would like to suggest doing away with any artificial air freshener(s) … the plug-in air freshener was overwhelming for the small space and not needed.

We wanted to love it, but...
Super cute property, and a great location for proximity to St Simons and Savannah. Unfortunately, there was a very strong mold and mildew smell, and my mold allergies were triggered all weekend. Jan informed us as we were on the way there that the dishwasher was leaking and repairman was coming the next week. Not being able to use the dishwasher was not a problem for us, but I think that is where the mold problem occurred. There was a large scorpion in the silverware drawer.

Pretty, but not private.
So let me say upfront that this is a cozy little cottage on a unique, beautiful property. However, I have to disagree with the listing's claims of how private and secluded it is. Frankly, the reality is that you're essentially in someone's front yard. There's a very large private residence a few hundred feet behind the cottage and a local road that runs right by the property. There are some trees and foliage between both of these and the cottage, but both are visible from its back porch (and hence the backporch is visible from both!). Additionally, the observation deck is behind the larger house, so you have to walk through its backyard a bit to get to it. To be fair, the residents of the larger house were gone during our stay, but knowing they could come back at any time made it very hard to feel comfortable there. Also, while Darien is listed as the location of the property, that's really just the nearest town and it's about 10-15 minutes away. There's very little around the property except for other houses and churches. We had to drive almost 30 minutes to get to a grocery store and around 45-60 minutes to get to most of the places of interest. This isn't something the property owners have control over, obviously, but it bears mentioning. Finally, I have to mention the property manager Jan. This would have been a two star review, but I'm adding an extra star for how wonderful she was. The wifi was out most of the weekend and she went well out of her way to try to get it fixed. On top of that, she was just really responsive and friendly in general. If this were just a review of her, it'd be five stars!

The perfect spot for birders
The cottage was small, but very efficient and had everything we needed, though a few more water glasses would be a good addition. The grounds are spectacular with huge live oak trees. We found Pileated Woodpeckers, in addition to others and Yellow Throated Warblers up in the canopy. We had Chuck-Will's-Widow calling in the early morning. It is close to the State Wildlife Management Area just south of Darien, and about 40 minutes south of the Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge.
