Chalet Les Randonneurs
Les Randonneurs is a new and unique three bedroom family home. On the ground floor it has a spacious open-plan lounge / dining room / kitchen, an easily accessed bedroom with en-suite shower room and a utility room. On the upper floor open stairs lead to a bright, double height lounge with fantastic views across the Samoens valley through its wall-to-wall glass doors and to two very large bedrooms each with en-suite baths and showers: one featuring a steam shower and one with a giant bath for two (or more!). All three of the bedrooms also have French doors with access to balcony / terrace space to sit and enjoy your post walk / ski G&T.
The dining area has a farmhouse table which will seat 12 easily or more squeezed in if you feel like entertaining. The kitchen is well equipped for self-catering as you would expect from a family home and includes a double width range cooker with induction hob, dishwasher, coffee machine (Lavazza pods) and large fridge-freezer with plenty of room for beer (or champagne). There is a separate utility room with drying racks for boots, helmets and ski suits, a large sink and washing machine and there is also an external ski locker.
The chalet has NO terrestrial TV but has a large (2m) cinema screen and projector with surround sound in the downstairs lounge with a BlueRay player (up to 4K), an HDMI cable to link to your computer and access to the internet for your Netflix, Amazon, etc. accounts. It also has access to some of the UK OnDemand services such as the BBC iPlayer. There is also a Sonos sound system in the two lounge for those times when you need soothing sounds with a view! Wi-Fi is of course available as is a small screen with an HDMI lead for those that want to hook up their computors / phones / PlayStations / xboxes.
The chalet sleeps 6 to 10 people in various possible arrangements:
2 in a super-king bed (the master bedroom)
4 in super-king / twin beds
4 in king / twin sofa beds
The chalet is not equipped for toddlers. No high chairs or cots are provided and the stair treads are open.
A 25 minute flat walk from Samoens town centre, the chalet is in the small village of Vallons d’en Haute. It backs onto forest and has open views from the South-facing French windows across the valley to the mountains beyond. It is ideally situated for the active amongst you to hike, bike, ski etc. However, those that prefer a more leisurely life can take in the shops, bars, restaurants and the summer and winter entertainment laid on in the town or even swim and lounge at “Lac Bleu”. We chose to build our chalet here as the area has one of the greatest concentrations of fantastic high (and low) level walks of anywhere in France.
The Grand Massif gondola to Samoens1600 is a 5 minutes drive away or a short trip on the ski-bus which stops right outside. From there guests can enjoy the mountains in the largest connected ski area in the world with 265 km of runs and 64 lifts to 148 slopes: 20 green slopes for beginners, 64 blue and 50 red slopes for skiers with a medium skill level as well as 14 black slopes for experienced skiers.
The chalet is managed on a daily basis by Fiona who lives locally. Guest renting the property also benefit from the following:
A welcome hamper of food and drinks, as well as toiletries and essential kitchen basics.
Flexible catering options and ready-meal delivery services
All prices include welcome hamper (as described above), luxury linen and towels, end of stay cleaning and tourist tax.
La Vieille Ferme is next door, a beautifully restored Savoyard farmhouse which has self catering and luxurious B&B accommodation. This provides the opportunity to rent Les Randonneurs as part of a very large group booking (subject to availability).
For summer the front garden is laid to grass (with some flowers too next year hopefully) with plenty of space for BBQs and entertaining. There is an outside (insulated) bike / ski locker and an outside tap for when the ride or even walk has been extra muddy! The drive has parking space for four cars (one undercover in a carport).
Reaching the chalet
It takes roughly 1 hour to reach the chalet from Geneva airport. The nearest train station is the ‘Gare de Cluses’ (25 minutes drive away). You will need book an airport transfer or rent your own car and snow chains as there is no public transport.
Vehicle access for bookings between November – April…
The chalet is located at an altitude of 750m and although the roads in the valley are ploughed 2 or 3 times a day we do therefore recommend that you have snow chains in your car. It is legal requirement in the French Alps to come equipped with snow chains that specifically fit your vehicle
