About this property

October dates added with lower rates! Great 2BR 2BA near Fairplay, Buena Vista

Beautiful 2BR/2Bath Cabin/Home that sleeps 6 (7max) comfortably in its custom built 1,350 sq'. Our Home expresses real wood and stone as much as possible throughout. Kitchen comes fully loaded all you need is to bring your groceries. Both baths and bedrooms are loaded as well. Bedrooms each have their own HDTV w/Satellite, Ceiling Fans and of course free WiFi.

Added to all the great things the cabin will give you our location makes the outdoors possible with activities like rafting, off road riding, biking, hiking, horseback riding, skiing, snowshoeing and literally dozens of other activities possible! Cabins location gets you
-Buena Vista (35min/22mi) Some of the Best White Water Rafting that exists with more outfitters and tours than you could ever use.
-Fairplay (35min/30mi) To the Famous South Park and Old Town.
-Salida (60min/44mi) Downtown is a great experience and you always get great views of the Kayak course that goes right through it.
-Breckenridge (60min/52mi) One of the classic Colorado Destinations.
-Colorado Springs (90min/75mi) Everything you could possibly need for shopping or other needs. Along the way to the Springs from the cabin you get Pikes Peak, The Adobe Cliff Dwellings, Garden of the Gods and many other attractions packed into that 75 miles. All of these great locations and more then a quick and easy trip back to the cabin.

Spending the day relaxing after big adventures is also VERY possible with the cabin. It sits on top of a 2.5 acre hill over half of which is covered with a beautiful Aspen Grove. A herd of deer has made its home in the grove. They run in a pattern from the grove in the morning down the hill. In the afternoon they come back up the hill in front of the house and you can just sit and watch the whole herd, Fawns included, as they graze slowly just feet from the cabin. Want to take a few minute trip you get options like the covered picnic area less than a mile down the road. With a large dog run attached to it you can have relaxing events that even the furry members of the family get to enjoy.

The pictures show the 15' high glass prow that offers amazing views of some of Colorado’s most impressive peaks. The Great Room and all of its offshoots walls and the ceiling are covered in real Knotty Pine. Put that together with the hardwood floors, custom stone fireplace, 15' glass prow and the cabin gives you rustic peace and allows you to recharge the batteries for the next big adventure. Also remember there is NO chance that you won't see a beautiful sunset on the Western Peaks every single afternoon from the great room or the deck at the front of the house.

Family and friends

We travel with friends and were able to meet up with family and take some amazing day trips in our Jeeps, have great meals together, enjoy the quiet solitude of the cabin, away from the bustling town of Buena Vista, just 24 mins away. Great access to the Collegiate Mountians.

Peaceful getaway with beautiful views.

This property was just beautiful. The views were amazing and enjoying our morning coffee on the deck was wonderful. An added bonus was the many hummingbirds who visited all day. The property had everything you need for cooking and just relaxing. The beds were very comfortable and the owner was excellent to communicate with. Would definitely consider renting again. The area is remote, but that is what we wanted and didn't mind the 25 minute drive to buena vista.

Mountain high retreat

My wife, myself & our 65# 8 yr old Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever arrived to find a wonderful mountain high (9422' elevation) cabin on 2 1/2 acres. During our week we roamed the Aspen & Pine mini groves feeling secluded & removed from the busy life. The house/cabin was furnished with every imaginable conveniece & amenities. We so enjoyed the western facing deck with coffee in the mornings & beautiful sunsets. The snow covered mountain range was icing on the cake. Jerrie was such a great communicator making sure our stay was complete & comfortable. Great memories for the 3 of us. This was our 1st vrbo experience & it was 5*.

Wonderful stay

This is been one of the best cabins we have rented in Colorado. The cabin was clean, stocked and was absolutely beautiful. Great views and perfectly positioned porch to look out at the mountains. A great get-a-way cabin.

Great place to relax

The scenery was beautiful! The cabin was private. Fully stocked with everything you would need for your stay. The host thinks of all the small items. Our only concerns were that the listing says there is a hot tub, but it is just a jetted tub in the main bathroom. Also, the main bed is a mattress in a waterbed frame and for a couple in their mid sixties it was hard to get in and out of. We found a step stool in the laundry area that made it a bit easier for my wife, but it wasn’t the most pleasant experience. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back.

Beautiful place in Colorado

The huge windows perfectly frame the amazing view. We watched storms roll in and beautiful sunsets. The porch is crazy with hummingbirds zooming all around. Comfortable beds and couches. We had a great time.

What a great little gem. Away from the touristic feel of the towns of Buena Vista, Salida and Fairplay but within driving distance. Great proximity to the National Forest, rafting, hiking and even gold panning ! Thanks Jerrie for sharing your home we had a wonderful week.

Nice place but overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke

Finally getting around to adding this review. Checked into the house and noticed an overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke coming from one of the bedrooms. Decided to try and tough it out for a night but ended up leaving early the next morning as we felt it was unsafe for our child due to the smell. Owner mentioned they don't smoke and nobody had been at the property but the cigarettes in the ash tray outside said otherwise. Owner still charged me almost $400 for the single night and cleaning fee despite being there less than 24 hours and leaving on account of the smell. The property was nice and we wish we could have stayed but this situation could have been handled better by the owner. Beware.

Great cabin but terrible property manager

Our family loves Colorado. We have always had great success with booking cabins with VRBO, until this time. Worst experience we have ever had. ALL the previous property owners have been AWESOME!! As we entered the cabin the first day, cat and dog hair everywhere. Bedding, floor, furniture, everywhere!!. I walked across the floor and had hair all over my socks!! We immediately called the property owner with no success. We then texted her and she said she was unavailable. We took pictures with the date and time on them to verify what we walked into and sent them to her. Toilets' were not clean, microwave dirty, blind broken, Futon mattress the springs were felt through the top of the mattress and no one could sleep on it. We had to go BUY an air mattress. We tried calling again and thought maybe the cleaning people had said they came and didn't. But this was not the case. Hardly no supplies at all. We have never had to worry about amenities. There were none. Also, limited amount of toilet paper. I had to go to the store the first day to stock the cabin with what we needed. NEVER have I ever had to do this before. Also, the first day we had to do laundry, and clean, NOT how I wanted to start my vacation. We are not sleeping in dog and cat hair or sitting in it either. Again we tried to call and she said only text her and she was unavailable for several days. Very Rude!! ALSO, no fishing card in the notebook as promised. We had to go to the main entrance and speak with the gentlemen that took care of the property. He gave us one and didn't understand why she would not have left us one. Also, she told us until we sent back the fishing card we got from him we would not get our cleaning deposit back. Are you kidding me? What has that got to do with a fishing card you didn't even leave us like you were suppose to!!We took pictures with the date and time on them that show how CLEAN WE left the cabin. Much, Much, Much cleaner than we found it. We took pictures date and time of how clean we left it because we know how some people are when it comes to telling the truth. To bad, because the cabin is in a good location, but NEEDS to be clean and have tons of updates. It is just a good thing that no one with us this time had allergies to animal HAIR!!!!!!!! What got us the most is the property owner was horrible and didn't care. NEVER have we ever had such a rude property owner and didn't care if we were happy in the cabin or not. My advice, DON"T STAY HERE!!!

Beautiful mountain retreat

If you enjoy peace and quiet in the mountains this is the place for you. The cabin has all of the essentials. It’s very well kept and was ideal for me and some family. The location was perfect as my cousins, uncle and I were there to fly fish the Arkansas River and the Dream Stream.

Just what we needed!

If nothing else, the mountain views and beautiful sunsets would be enough….but this cabin also has a great layout and everything you need for your stay. The cabin itself is secluded but close to all manner of recreation. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer cabin or better vacation location. Jim & Chris

We really enjoyed our stay in this home. It's very quiet and peaceful. The surrounding scenery is beautiful. It is remote but you are still within a 25 minute drive to the nearest town to get groceries. And the hummingbirds were pure entertainment.

Quiet, peaceful and a wonderful view! It worked quite well for our family of 6. It's 30 minutes away from town but that is what we were looking for. About the host

Hosted by Jerrie Shufelt

Host profile image
Originally from Alabama but have now been in Colorado for almost 40 years. Retired and move all around visiting family and friends but still love that cabin on the hill.

Why they chose this property

A beautiful piece of land to build a mountain cabin on. So the land was purchased over 13 years ago and the house was built just 7 years ago with every single item being hand picked and designed by me and my husband.

What makes this property unique

Standing on the deck in the morning with a cup of coffee or juice and watching the light hit the faces of all the Western mountains.

Walking through the Aspen Grove listening to the rustling of the leaves and the amazing sweet smell of the grove.

While on your walk in the Aspens its normal for you to have to freeze and stand still and quite so you can watch the local deer herd that have made our Aspen grove their home. They start coming out from underneath the pines, that litter the grove, to make their morning move. Us and all of the other locals have always treated them well so If your quite and still they will just look at you and continue on their routine like your just another tree in the grove.

Sitting in the Great Room watching the flickering flames in the fireplace built of the custom stone that we personally selected.

And most of all watching those beautiful sunsets. It is no accident the the prow of the house faces the west allowing you to see those sunsets clearly everyday. Now you get to enjoy our careful planning and see them for yourself. Hold that special persons hand as you both watch the sun turn into a million different colors as it slides along the Western Range. The sun and the colors will start at the left side of the deck and finally go behind the last peak on the decks right side. That sunset has brought many out to stand on the deck deck to JUST watch ;)
