About this property

Walled Garden Mews 3 - a mews cottage that sleeps 6 guests in 2 bedrooms

Set in a secluded sunny corner, the Walled Garden Cottages are within the walls of the old Melfort Estate walled garden and approximately 500 yards from the Inner Village.

The Walled Garden has 10 “mews style” two-bedroom cottages and one two-bedroom first floor apartment with each cottage enjoying views over the beautiful gardens and overlooking Loch Melfort to the South . There are plenty of car parking spaces at the rear of the building, with car parking for visitors provided immediately outside the garden entrance. A small leisure area is situated in the centre of the building which houses a sauna and games room with table tennis, snooker and darts – there is also a small laundry, public phone and communal deep freeze.

Entrance to each cottage is at the rear of the building, through the hall which has a drying/coat storage area. Leading from the hall is the open-plan sitting room, dining area and kitchen, shower room with large walk-in shower, and the master bedroom with en-suite bathroom. Stairs lead to the mezzanine balcony/games, sleeping area and first floor twin bedroom.

Each cottage has its own private patio opening from the dining area, and onto the communal gardens.

Great place for a short break
Melfort Village is in a beautiful, quiet, isolated location. It is perfect for any kind of outside activity as well as being surrounded by history and places of interest. We stayed in the Walled Garden Mews and the accommodation surpassed our expectation, it was really comfortable and homely. Thoroughly enjoyed our week and would visit again without any reservations.

Family Break - 3 days
Melfort Village provided us with accommodation suitable for our group of 6 adults, 2 babies and 2 dogs. The area was good for exercising the dogs although accessing the 'beach' in the bay is not as easy as the site info suggests. The Mews accommodation was well equipped and cots and stair-gates were provided as requested. We didn't dine in the on-site restaurant but we did order a substantial carry-out dinner which was very good. On the one day when the weather was poor we had an eying meal in the nearby Loch Melfort Hotel which was also very good. The swimming pool etc was a bonus especially on the rainy day. It is a good size and there are plenty of pool 'toys' for the kids. Oban is only 30 minutes drive from mel fort and is also worth a visit.

A time for reflection
The walled garden is a home away from home experience with the silence of nature. A safe and friendly location to spend time on your own or with family. Loved it.

Good short break
We stayed for 3 nights at the start of April with our 6 and 2.5 year olds. The Walled Garden cottage had 2 bedrooms so not wanting to disturb our 6 year old we put our 2.5 year old to sleep in the mezzanine area with the sofa bed - this was fine in early Apri but will be tricky as the summer comes since there is 3 skylights in the property which have no blinds and the light would keep her awake. Overall we had a good time, the kids enjoyed playing in the park and in the swimming pool - the toys left at the side of the pool were a big hit. We felt a little let down by the restaurant, it was only properly open on one night of our stay and took us 2 hours just to get one course - it had such positive reviews. There was only one person covering both bar and restaurant- ie seating people, taking orders, serving drinks, bringing out food, clearing tables, talking to people walking in etc. It was so inefficient, in the whole time we were there not one table got turned over. We had to leave without the kids ice cream (which would’ve been included) since it was getting too late and we didn’t have another half an hour to wait for it to come out. Not sure what had happened the night we went given the other positive reviews but the restaurant was not a positive addition to the village in our opinion, especially given we were on holiday during what should’ve been peak time. All Melfort Village staff we spoke with were friendly and helpful, took time to talk to the kids and gave us suggestions on places to visit with them. The holiday cottage was well equipped- jigsaws and games were left for the kids, the only downfall being the 1000 piece jigsaws stored at 2 year old height, she gleefully emptied the box before we could stop her! Hopefully we found all the pieces again.

Autumn Break
We were lucky with the weather, the previous week we were told was very wet. The sun shone the first part of the week and the colours of the trees and reflections in the water were stunning. The second part of the week was a little mixed weather wise but enjoyed it nevertheless, lots of walks ,natural scenery and wildlife Our lodge was in the walled garden which was a little way out from the main accomodation but very comfortable. Tip:- TAKE A TORCH.

A week at the Walled Garden Mews 3
The cottage was perfect, light and airy and at the same time cosy. We had friends for supper on two nights and sat down 8 people very comfortably, it was a well equipped kitchen and I was able to cook very easily. It was clean and tidy when we arrived, and we were very comfortable there.

Long weekend away.
Fabulous location - views & walks. Excellent facilities for all the family & dog. Would suggest blinds on the mezzanine windows to aid sleeping. More up front guidance on the hot water system would be useful.

Wonderful stay in Melfort Village
We had a wonderful week in the Walled Garden at Melfort Village. The cottage was comfortable and very clean and had glorious views towards Loch Melfort. The staff go out of their way to provide help if needed. There is an extremely useful welcome talk provided the day after arrival and Olwen gave us many useful suggestions of places to go and 'insider tips' for exploring Argyll. The musical evening in the Shower of Herring restaurant was very enjoyable. We made good use too of the pool, tennis court and bike hire. Melfort Village is in stunning surroundings and provides the backdrop for a relaxing, peaceful week.

A great holiday experience.
An excellent holiday, probably the best yet. The ambiance of the village is excellent. The design and place ment of the units rewuired a lot of thouight and it showed in the result. We have been to many DAE recommende resorts and I think that this may just rate at No 1.

Loch Melfort in May
We had a fantastic holiday due to the village layout, the wonderful views and there was so much to see and do. We were very pleased with the walled garden accommodation and the local pub/restaurant was ideally located and very friendly. It had been newly decorated and the food was very good. The welcome meeting was very informative and all the staff on site were extremely friendly. We enjoyed it so much we will be returning for our next holiday.

Beautiful location
We enjoyed a lovely week . Melfort is a great location for country walks ,exploring the many islands and beautiful scenery. It is quite a remote setting so you need to be prepared with groceries for your stay, you can't just pop to the shops for a forgotten item. We enjoyed some of the many sports that are on offer, we played snooker, table tennis , pool & air hockey. The staff are very helpful and can tell you about the local area. Alwyn is very knowledgeable and gave us lots of ideas which we enjoyed seeking out. The Restaurant is very friendly and we enjoyed our meal on Monday night followed by the musical entertainment.

Walled Garden 3
As owners of Walled Garden 3 once again enjoyed a very relaxing time at the cottage. Birds to watch in abundance, rewarded with hours of entertaining activity. We had a swim most days in a pool mostly to ourselves at this time of year, enjoyed the Sauna and Jacuzzi. Since our last visit the Shower of Herring has new owners with a fantastic menu for in house or carry out. Walks , drives and amazing scenery too be had in abundance. Complimentary coffee after our swim and a friendly helpful chat with the girls in the office about what to see and do. They are always on tap with local advice and ideas of walks etc. No problem to great for them to help you with. The standard of accommodation is as is reported in the grading. Would recommend always. We had two weeks to chill , relax and return home refreshed. Jennifer from Stirling.
