About this property

Walled Garden Mews 9 - a mews cottage that sleeps 6 guests in 2 bedrooms

Set in a secluded sunny corner, the Walled Garden Cottages are within the walls of the old Melfort Estate walled garden and approximately 500 yards from the Inner Village.

The Walled Garden has 10 “mews style” two-bedroom cottages and one two-bedroom first floor apartment with each cottage enjoying views over the beautiful gardens and overlooking Loch Melfort to the South . There are plenty of car parking spaces at the rear of the building, with car parking for visitors provided immediately outside the garden entrance. A small leisure area is situated in the centre of the building which houses a sauna and games room with table tennis, snooker and darts – there is also a small laundry, public phone and communal deep freeze.

Entrance to each cottage is at the rear of the building, through the hall which has a drying/coat storage area. Leading from the hall is the open-plan sitting room, dining area and kitchen, shower room with large walk-in shower, and the master bedroom with en-suite bathroom. Stairs lead to the mezzanine balcony/games, sleeping area and first floor twin bedroom.

Each cottage has its own private patio opening from the dining area, and onto the communal gardens.

A Magical Week at Melfort Village

We spent a full week in the comfort of Melfort Village. Walled Garden Mews No.9 was extremely comfortable for the four of us. We would not hesitate to return for a second holiday there. The apartment was well equipped and very roomy with a wonderful view down to the loch. WiFi in the Walled Garden Mews was excellent. There is so much to see and do in this beautiful part of the world. The scenery is outstanding and the bush walking on the mainland and the nearby islands is superb. Nearby Oban has some terrific places for eating, drinking and shopping. The restaurant just up the road at Loch Melfort Hotel is not to be missed for a special occasion. If you are in the Village on a Monday morning and want to know where to go, what to do, and where’s the best eating, check out Olwyn’s Introduction to the Area talk. (I promise, not one mention of Buy Our Timeshare!) Olwyn covers the area from Campbeltown in the south (and the nearby justly famous Muneroy Cafe with its fabulous cakes) to Ben Nevis in the north. Like all the staff at Melfort Village, Olwyn is welcoming and generous with her time and knowledge. Highlights besides the wonderful walks were the Three Island Trip on the ferries (Mull, Iona and Staffa); a sea eagle, seal, dolphin, deer spotting trip in a small boat; and a trip INTO the mountain to see the Cruachan Power Station. Tips: You really need a car to stay at the Melfort Village. Some mobile phones providers will have no coverage in the Village (eg. 3) but the Walled Garden Mews supported WiFi based calls. You may not be able to get WiFi in other parts of the Village, including Reception. We would love to go back!

Another amazing stay!

We had a fantastic fortnight first at Walled Garden 11 and then Walled Garden 9. Both were immaculately clean on arrival. We have stayed at Melfort Village for many years and always have a great time and find something new to do we haven't done before. Hired the kids some bikes which was great, plenty of tennis and swimming. Wonderful massages and treatments from the lovely Annie and excellent friendly help and warm welcome from all of the staff in the reception who go out of their way to help! Had a brilliant day visit to nearby Easdale Island where our teenage kids enjoyed some wild swimming at the old slate quarry pools, which is well worth the visit. We will be back soon!

Easter Break

We are members at Melfort of Stables West. We were pleasantly surprised how well appointed the Walled Garden was. The one we were in had fantastic views down the loch and over surrounding hills. It’s lovely to sit outside for breakfast with such a fantastic view. Friends stayed the first half of the week and loved everything about the property and the village itself. Would certainly be happy to stay in The Mews in the spring to Autumn . They are hoping to log fires in all the Mews over time. (2 already have)

3 day break

This was a loveley Christmas pressie, never been before and we were pleasantly surprised how much we enjoyed our break. A beautiful location in high standard accomodation and facilities. Lots to see and do in surrounding areas.

AMAZING

Our recent visit was our first but will NOT be our last!. The accommodation was excellent and all of the activities like tennis, golf, basketball were all free, which was a nice suprise. Even the two well equipped games rooms, swimming pool and full size snooker table were free. Staff were friendly and helpful. Even if the weather isn't great there is so much to see around oban that you won't be bored. All round it was a great stay and we are already looking to book again for the summer.

Lovely melody village

The walled garden is beautiful. There were a few surprises like paying separately for electric and no close care for breakfast. It is a little remote but I would stay again because I would be better prepared. I wouldn't drive there after dark. Stay by the airport and rent the car in the morning. The drive is beautiful and you will enjoy your stay so much more. You definitely need a car. The bus is nice but you need a car to get to the bus stop. The rooms are very cozy and the view is breathtaking.. The people are friendly even the guests. We really enjoyed our stay after we got settled in.

A great few days - shame we had to cut it short

Melfort Village is a wonderful resort. From our viewpoint it is both disabled and dog friendly - even to providing an arrival pack for our dog. The staff at Melfort couldn't be more helpful and I particularly appreciated their support when we had to cut our holiday short on the Wednesday because our daughter was taken into hospital back in Leeds. Walled Garden 9 had everything you could possibly ask for and all of very good quality and in more than adequate numbers. The cottage was lovely and warm when we arrived, which was nice after an 8 hour drive. The pool area, yet again, was excellent, just a shame I didn't get to use it more than once during our visit. The restaurant was closed due to the chef's absence, so cannot comment on that. Our second stay at Melfort, but won't be our last.

Enjoyable Stay!

Lovely welcome at Office, then a very comprehensive welcome meeting on Sunday by Olwen. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Mews, tried hard to find something missing... but failed! Everything catered for and spotlessly clean... Thank you..

The best UK accommodation we have stayed in!

Such a beautiful and peaceful setting. The accommodation was exceptional - very clean and well equipped, ideal for family of 4 (incl 2 teenagers!). Facilities on site were fantastic, we played cricket on the field, pool in the Gunpowder Room, table tennis in the games room, swam in the pool and rode bikes round the loch - and that was after busy days out sight seeing! A great base to explore west coast Scotland. Staff were all polite and very helpful, couldn't fault anything. We will be back!

We had a very relaxing, sunny week in a fantastic accomodation. It was quiet and comfortable with things to do close by. Will definitely return. Great value for money!

Shamazing

After a last minute change of plan we managed to get a last minute booking at this beautiful location. We were made to feel very welcome throughout the entire stay. The condition and cleanliness inside and out were outstanding it was very comfortable to sleep in with plenty of space for 4 people. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to others

Fabulous June break

We had 2 adjoining cottages booked in the Walled Garden - three generations and 2 dogs!! Fabulous quiet break, ideal for families and dogs - beautiful walks, excellent facilities and cottages well equipped and comfortable - a real ‘ home from home ‘ Unfortunately the Shower of Herring wasnt serving food the week we stayed - but would love to return and visit in future !! Reception Team superb - friendly and informative !

Very cold accomodation

The heating system is inadequate -storage heating. Cold on arrival. Electric heater available but difficult to heat living area as open plan and cathedral ceiling. Electric very expense for the week.

Friendly Staff and Immaculate Unit

Has a wonderful week in December in a Walled Garden Mews unit. Spotlessly clean and well stocked. Books & games in the unit added to the ambience. The staff at the resort are exceptional and go the extra mile to satisfy your requests whether it is for cables for your computer or sightseeing trips! A good location from which to visit Oban and the Hebrides as well as further afield.

Well appointed lodge in a very good resort. Beautiful part of Scotland

We were lucky with the weather which certainly helped give a good impression but all our dealings with the staff were excellent with all being very approachable, friendly and efficient. The lodge itself benefitted from being slightly raised and (very slightly) remote from the main resort as it had very good views of the Loch. The on site bar/restaurant closed just after we arrived so we only made one visit but found the food good and a lively atmosphere as it was Music Night. The welcome meeting was well worth attending as we were given some excellent suggestions of places to go that we may otherwise have missed. Recommended outings are to visit the islands of Luing and Easdale.

Good value. Good for a getaway to relax. Not close to major sightseeing in Scotland

Clean, good value, good area to relax, not so much for sight seeing with only one week in Scotland. Heat was turned off in the night and then too cold.

Melfort village, paradise?

Melfort village offers us a taste of paradise! Maybe the soft furnishing could do with a bit of a deep clean but this really is a minor issue. The only real complaint is the allowing dogs to use the lawns as a toilet. Removing of their feaces only deals with half the problem especially as young children play on the grass. Could I suggest it would be more hygienic if dog owners be encouraged to use a separate area for their dog's toilet rather than the entire grassed areas. NB - we stayed in the walled garden area.

Medford village walled garden unit

only thing I would say on the downside was layout of the 2 bedroom unit. The master bedroom had an on suite bathroom which was fine, but the 2nd bedroom( upstairs) and the sofa bed(upstairs) had their bathroom on the ground floor(rather inconvenient)

A peaceful stay

We had a lovely break despite the weather, with jigsaws and games provided in the lodge as well as TV and DVD in lounge and bedroom and CD player. Kitchen was well stocked and beds very comfortable. Above all it was peaceful, friendly and staff were very helpful. Good food is available, but remember to book, even for a takeaway on busy nights. And there were lots of birds to watch which delighted our twitcher!

Beautiful accommodation, fabulous scenery!

Our first stay at this resort. Probably one of the best we've stayed at in terms of accommodation, facilities, scenery and staff. Everywhere was immaculate, we had everything we needed, and more! Nothing was too much trouble, the staff were extremely friendly. We went along to the music night and loved every minute of it!
