The hosts use this cottage themselves throughout the year and ensure everything is kept clean, efficient and super comfortable.

What we love about the cottage: Catherine Cottage is in the middle of a most beautiful, small and friendly village which has enough life to provide interest but is quiet enough to help you relax and chill. We are literally steps away from two fabulous pubs that serve meals snacks and drinks, a teashop that does breakfast lunch and teas and has the best cakes, and we even have a village shop. We're also next door to the river and the church and surrounded by historic buildings and beautiful countryside. The village is right in the middle of the Peak District so nothing is more than 30 minutes' drive, giving us easy access to varied landscape and numerous pretty villages. The walking / cycling is amazing and can be done straight from the door. And, we are close to some of the most interesting historic sites in the UK including Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and the spa towns of Buxton and Bakewell.

It’s impossible to say how wonderful this cottage is. The owners send very helpful information beforehand and go above and beyond with communication and helpful advice. The cottage is kept beautifully and is exceptionally located. It is so comfortable and well equipped. Cannot say enough about this fabulous place!

Catherine Cottage
The cottage is beautiful, spotlessly clean and has everything you could need for your stay. It is surprisingly spacious a bit like the TARDIS from the outside. The village is gorgeous and the people are friendly. It's a great base for walking and having a tea rooms next door is an amazing bonus. The road outside can be quite busy and the vehicles drive surprisingly fast for a rural village but we guess this is just 21st century living! Thank you for a lovely week!

Amazing stay
This property, and its location, is amazing. Check in was a breeze and the property was exactly as described. The village of Ashford-in-the-Water is also lovely, and the cottage sits next to a cafe and a pub. Ashford is ideally located for exploring much of the Peak District, whether by car, foot or bike. There is also a bus service which passes through the village. All rooms are immaculately cleaned and decorated and furnished to a high standard. This is a really stand-out property and I have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

About the host

Host profile image
We spend as much time as possible in the Peak District as we have roots here and love the landscape and way of life. We have been renting our cottage out since 2018 and have had over 100 visiting couples, families and groups of friends to stay with 99% great reviews. This was through an agency, but in 2022 we decided to leave the agency and do the bookings ourselves. Visitors have particularly remarked on the cleanliness, the good quality of the decor and renovations, the location and amenities, and that they feel at home as soon as they walk in. We stay in the cottage often and are always looking to improve the experience for ourselves and our visitors.

Why they chose this property

This looks like a classic cottage from outside, but unlike many cottages, it's a Tardis inside! It's roomy enough for proper chilling inside, but also perfect as a base for activities across the Peaks. It's well equipped, has a separate kitchen / diner and lounge, handy downstairs loo, and is super cosy.

The village is quieter and more relaxing than well known tourist places like Bakewell or Buxton, but is close to everything in the area. You can spend your break here without using your car because you can walk straight out of the door to enjoy teas, breakfast & lunch at the Aissford tea room, drinks lunch and supper at the Bull's Head pub, and totally brilliant posh food at the Rafters restaurant as well as walking or biking the many trails and quiet lanes on the doorstep. Within 20 minutes with a car there are numerous pretty villages (including Bakewell with shops, antiques and eateries as well as stately homes and galleries.
