About this property

Pet Friendly, Central Dartmouth

Bayards is a fantastic base for a self-catering holiday in the centre of historic Dartmouth - either a short break or longer. This well-appointed first-floor apartment is perfect for two couples sharing or a small family - with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a good-sized living space. Pets are welcome, too. You're just a short stroll from the riverside, eclectic shops, chic restaurants, and cosy inns. River rides and ferries take you to the Dart Valley's picturesque villages and coves beyond.

Accommodation:

A flight of internal stairs lead to the front door and hallway from where all rooms are accessed. At the far end of the hall, the light and airy open-plan living space with sofas, TV and a DVD player. The dining area comfortably seats four. The well-equipped kitchen has a gas oven and hob, fridge-freezer, and washing machine.

There are two bedrooms - an en-suite double room with a shower and WC and a twin bedroom with two single beds. There's also a family bathroom with a large walk-in shower.

There's central heating throughout.

There is no garden for exercising dogs, but you are only a short walk from the South West Coast Path. There's also Coronation Park on the North Embankment which is popular with dog owners.

Parking:

A parking permit is provided for the Mayors Avenue Car Park, which is a 5-minute walk away. The permit does not guarantee a parking space, and it can get very busy during the summer and special events, such as the Royal Regatta week (during which the car park is closed).

Bayards

Lovely apartment, in good position, minutes walk from the river and Bayards Cove. Plenty of lovely shops and eating places close by too and a lovely 5 minute walk into the town.

Nice stay

Stayed three nights over a weekend. Very convenient for local amenities. Good information provided on finding the place and about the flat. Some of the accommodation was possibly a little dated ( lounge and kitchen, communal areas) but otherwise fine and very clean and tidy. Our only issue was not being able to connect the smart tv to private accounts ( seems to be a Wi-Fi connection issue ). Thanks for having us

Beautiful Dartmouth

We have stayed in the area many times before but never in the heart of Dartmouth itself. This was the perfect location for us this time! Our tweenage children could wander to the shops, and fish from the harbour freely whilst only being 2 mins away from home if they needed us. Parking was a little tricky on arrival but only because the Food Festival was in full swing by Monday we never failed to find a spot. We used the ferry’s and local transport to travel around the area meaning we didn’t use the car very much at all. The accommodation was clean and well presented and perfect for the four of us and our small dog. Despite being in the heart of things it wasn’t too noisy and it was the ideal spot for people watching. We will definitely return.

Very noisy due to people below

We stayed in this property in 2019 and it was a very comfortable stay. There’s a strong smell of engine oil when you come into the door from the street but that doesn’t carry into the apartment. The master bedroom is on the back and is not affected by street noise. The problem this time was the noise as early as 5.45 in the morning. There was a flooding of bright light into the bedroom window on Sunday morning and a noise like a giant vacuum cleaner which went on for about 30 minutes. Subsequent mornings it was someone beneath us moving things about and slamming doors from about 6am. If you are an early riser, unlike us, this apartment is a gem.

Mixed review

It's a shame I feel this property and our experience needs a mixed review. Overall the flat inside was as stated in the listing and the rooms were all spacious and met what we immediately needed and the location was ideal for exploring Dartmouth. However a few things made the stay much less comfortable/enjoyable than I'd like. When we first entered the front door we were greeted with the smell of someone else's rotting garbage left inside. Contacted Dart Valley cottages who informed us it should be picked up outside. We had to sort out getting this large amount of rubbish outside and unfortunately (possibly due to the heat) the bin smell lingered inside for the entirety of our stay. I've stayed with many other self-catered holiday accommodations and it's fairly normal to expect some kind of welcome pack, with maybe milk coffee/tea to get you started, but nothing was given. Also a lot of the kitchen items we needed to use were left and put back in cupboards dirty or greasy, which was a shame. Also the DVD player didn't work.

Great Dartmouth stay

Conveniently situated for all Dartmouth attractions, I needed somewhere all on one level and dog friendly. Bayards ticked all the boxes! Clean and comfortable with full range of facilities and amenities including an invaluable parking permit. Excellent.

late summer break

Ideally located in the centre of Dartmouth to feel the vibrancy of the town but private and quiet is what you want. Superbly equipped, super clean and comfortable.

Great apartment in fantastic location

Bayards is a decent sized, well equipped apartment in a very central location. Despite being in the heart of Dartmouth it wasn’t too noisy (just chatter from the cafe opposite and seagulls!). Dartmouth is a fantastic resort with plenty of things to do, places to visit and plenty of bars/restaurants! Having the parking permit is a real bonus, which can be used on any of the South Hams long stay car parks. We would definitely stay at Bayards again and book with Dart Valley Cottages.

Flat review

We found nearly everything we needed. A really well equipped kitchen. We had to get some extra coat hangers from the shop, but I expect a lot of that had to do with COVID restrictions. All in all we had a very nice week Cynthia

Not a very inviting property could be so much better

The entrance was very shabby and smelly a really disappointing first impression of the apartment. Upon entering the flat it was not too bad and the kitchen was really very good and clean. There was no parking permit for us as promised which meant we were searching for parking spaces. The radiator in the bathroom was rusty and discoloured and a lot of the walls in the property had strange stains on the walls. The towels were stained but the bed linen was clean or so we thought. We were horrified when we removed the bed sheets on the morning of our departure all of the mattress protectors were heavily stained (new ones only cost £10) it was pretty disgusting and made us feel sick (Covid deep clean? I don't think so). It certainly was not acceptable and considering the price that we paid (£477 for two nights) it was massively overpriced. The online photos led us to believe that the apartment was much nicer than the reality and we feel as though we were misled,

Top spot to stay

We had a great week staying at Bayards during what must have been the worst week for weather. Home comforts were the order of the day and we had this and more from this well equipped well maintained apartment.

A great week in Dartmouth

Really good location as you can look out the window to see if there is a queue to Alf Resco before you go for breakfast. Flat was warm comfortable and well equipped but it didn't have a dishwasher (apart from me). Entrance hall to the block was a bit shabby with the paint flaking off the wall. Overall another great holiday in Dartmouth especially enjoyed watching the ferries operating in the spring tides

Just what we was looking for

Nice apartment very clean and comfortable ,bit on the noisy side due to bottles being dropped off at night from where ??? The main bathroom needs a rubber mat in the bath for health and safety reasons and the pillow/mattress protectors really needed a good wash and should be changed every week other than that we had a great weeks stay and absolutely love Dartmouth and can't wait to return.

Excellent with one or two reservations

Entrance hall like council flats; poor state of maintenance, but clean. Yacht-club staff, especially bar staff create early morning noise moving furniture, bottles and barrels. Otherwise, a very pleasant time with all mod coms; apart from the lack of a dishwasher into which to put crockery etc on leaving.

Comfortable flat in great location

Very clean and well equipped accommodation in brilliant location close to river front and town centre. Parking though is very difficult and communal entrance hall a bit grim

Our return to Bayards

The premise had been redecorated to an excellent standard. Everything was in good working order. Shower and water pressure first class. We had an enjoyable week and will return.

Homely, comfortable and good location

We felt really at home and comfortable in the flat. It is very central, so is great for cafes, pubs, shops and walks around Dartmouth. The two bathrooms were an added bonus. One complaint though - there weren't any bowls or plates, just saucers and large dishes, but this may have been due to some Covid related cleaning mishap.

Great central location for a short break

This is a great find for a short stay in Dartmouth. The flat is very well equipped and we liked the spacious lounge/diner. The central location is perfect for popping in and out.

New Year Celebrations! Fine!

Great location for central Dartmouth pubs, restaurants and lovely independent shops as well as the usual convenience stores. Also great for further afield attractions with a choice of transport (we tried them all!) passenger and car ferries, steam train and road on the doorstep. Good kitchen facilities and comfy beds & decent sized smart tv for spare moments to catch up on Christmas. Only criticisms~ early morning noisy & regular yacht club deliveries & bottle waste~rusty rad in bathroom~ very drab and dismally unkempt foyer area and outer stairs.

Stay at Bayard's

We enjoyed our stay at Bayard's, however, the accommodation was looking a bit tired in places (the radiator in the bathroom had been painted & has gone yellow/ orange, the sofas seating lacked support & both of us had back ache from the double bed mattress at the end of our stay). The location was ok some car noise with people stopping to pick up there breakfast/drinks between 7.00&9.00am from the cafe opposite.

Cosy & comfy

We enjoyed staying at Bayards which was cosy and comfortable with an interesting view of the quiet but interesting street, one back from the seafront. An ideal location for eating out and small local shops. We particularly appreciated having a good bed and two generous settees. The kitchen was also very weĺĺ equipped. Even though we were there in a cold wet week, we were cosy and warm.
