The property was fine but the kitchen equipment was very sparse and the knives were blunt! There is only a mirror in one bedroom; no blinds in the bedrooms so no privacy unless the curtains are closed all the time and no blinds in the conservatory so like being in a goldfish bowl! Unfortunately the gas ran out on our first night so no hot water in the morning but the owner eventually replaced that by mid day. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

Firth Lodge is a modern bungalow which has been refurbished to a very high standard. The living space is spacious and comfortably accommodated 5 adults. The Wifi was very good and the TV is internet enabled so you can use your Netflix account etc which was handy as we had 2 days of torrential rain ! The 3 bedrooms are all furnished to a high standard and beds were comfy. The whole place was spotlessly clean. There is a ramp up to the front door which is good for people that can't manage steps easily. The owner/manager works at the local shop so is available if you have any queries. Southerness itself has a lovely beach but not much else and it's a bit of a drive to places. Caerlaverock Castle is 45 mins - it was closed but worth a visit as you can walk around the grounds and into the nature reserve . Threave Gardens near Castle Douglas is about an hour - fantastic National Trust gardens but NT prices to enter ! Some nice walks from New Abbey (for the able bodied). The pub at Southerness - Paul Jones - does good food and the chip chop also very good. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

Firth Lodge is a modern detached bungalow on a quiet residential lane, just across the road from the beach. The furniture in every room was of good quality, beds were really comfortable as were the sofas in both the lounge(which were recliners) and in the conservatory. There is a lovely sunny garden which has comfortable arm chair garden furniture with soft cushions. The kitchen/diner is a good size@everything you could possibly need has been provided. The bungalow is very spacious@was spotlessly clean.Only one thing I feel would be a benefit is nets or blinds in bedrooms,we kept curtains shut so it wasn't a problem but think it would be nice to have them for privacy, also maybe blinds in conservatory. We found the beaches lovely,a bit rocky@shingles at start but a few minutes walk@there is a huge sandy beach.5miles towards Stranrar is Sandyhills which has a carpark@a fabulous sandy beach. There are also some lovely forest walks close by. We had a great time with our dog@if all goes well we be back next year.Thank you to the owners for an enjoyable holiday.

Very warm and comfortable cottage. Only minor complaints such as no teapot and the kitchen knives are blunt. The owner and neighbours are very friendly and there are many good walks in the area. Highly recommend this cottage

Firth cottage in Southerness Dumfries and Galloway
When we got to the postcode given foe the cottage it turned out to be the village shop got the key and directions for the cottage a good ten minute walk away .The cottage (( lodge )) was lovely inside and out ,spotlessly clean and well equipped .I found the owner very welcoming we had a problem with the heating which they sorted out very quickly .very nice people .The only problem with the area is that there are so many derilict lodges on the site which put us off going back there .It didn't end well two days before leaving I fell off the picnic patio of the fish and chip shop and broke my wrist .so spent my last full day at the hospital .and having to get family to come to drive us home as I couldn't drive .not reallly the best holiday .would book with iHomeaway again but next year it will be on the north east coast .
Stayed 7 nights in Jul 2018
