First Holiday away after losing partner to cancer
This was basic accommodation with no frills. Ideal if you are just looking for something very basic to sleep and spending the evening in. Everything was clean and tidy on arrival. The kitchen had everything if you wanted to self cater for yourselves. The only person I spoke to during my stay was a stable hand. I never meet the owner. I would be happy to stay here in the future.

1st visit to the Peak District
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Peak District. We only had a weekend so it was more of a taster visit, but we had a really good time, loved Cromford, Bakewell and Matlock and a visit to the country park in Buxton. There was so much more to do & see. We loved the location of the cottage but we could have done with better and clearer instructions on where to park on arrival, we were asked to move after we arrived but didn’t know where we supposed to be! Also, future visitors need to be aware that they will have to bring all supplies with them as there is nothing provided - not even salt & pepper! There was however, a bottle of wine.

Lovely cottage and friendly owner.
Lovely cottage and friendly owner. Think it needs more general instructions for using cooker etc and what to do with rubbish. For us the sofas were too low (we are a bit creaky though) Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

Myself, husband and two family friends recently booked a two night stay at Barn Owl Cottage, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Located on a working farm and just off the beaten track nestled between the rolling green fields, it was the perfect place to unwind. Extremely comfortable with all the kitchen gadgets you need for a self catering break, if you don’t want to indulge in the wide choice of places to eat locally. Matlock Bath a short drive away has a very large choice of fish and chip shops cooking fresh to order, alternatively a 15 minute stroll into Cromford past the canal and down the windey country lanes you can enjoy some tasty home cooking at The Boat Inn. Ideal for guests with one dog, the outdoor courtyard is handy for eating outdoors and space for your dog to explore, although we would recommend a ground spike and extendable lead for dogs who really like to go exploring and making friends with the hens (when you aren’t watching). Alexandria is a super warm host and nothing is to much trouble. A bottle of wine awaited us on arrival which was a very nice and unexpected touch. The cottage is much bigger than the photos show and following its restoration has maintained some of its beautiful and original features including exposed beams and stonework (a reminder you of the buildings origins). The only negative (but wouldn’t stop us from returning) is the front bedroom is under another cottage and can get slightly noisy from guests above. Again this wouldn’t put us off from returning. We can’t wait to come back, but for longer next time. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

The Barn Owl Cottage is really lovely - a great location and very clean and well looked after, we had a great trip. It was a bit of shame not to have the lovely four poster bed in the main room, as per the photos on the website, but in general we loved our stay and would definitely recommend. Alexandra was really helpful and communication was great! Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

Had a fantastic week away with my 11 year old daughter.
Had a fantastic week away with my 11 year old daughter. The location of this cottage provides a perfect base to explore what Derbyshire has to offer and there are so many things on the doorstep that there is no need to travel far. I lived in Matlock in the mid 70s but moved back to the North East of England in '79 so I know the area quite well hence the reason of picking a cottage in this location. The cottage itself was perfect for our needs as dogs are allowed and the flooring is mainly wood with one part of it made out of stone so any muck dragged in on feet and paws is easily cleaned. I could describe the whole cottage room by room but cant see the point as there is a good description and photos available but I can say that it is extremely homely and warm with lovely vaulted ceilings and lots of mood lighting. there is no need to take anything when you come to stay as everything you could need for comfort is provided . All rooms are spacious, airy and tastefully decorated. The bathroom is a full wetroom so again it is very practical and easy to maintain. We thoroughly enjoyed our week long stay here and will be boking up for next year so I can highly recommend this property should you be looking to stay in the Matlock area. The property owners run the farm on which the cottage is located and they were perfect hosts, very amiable and happy to chat at any time night or day. So to recap...we loved this cottage so if you are tempted by a break in Derbyshire then you definitely wont be disappointed

lovely cottage in a great location for chatsworth, bakewell and matlock ...spotlessly clean and fun being on the farm...only issue for us was other guests children upstairs who I don't think realised our bedroom was underneath theres...some carpet may help but they were much quieter and mindful of the noise when we politely pointed out we were underneath them

Wonderful little cottage. We would have liked WIFI and a bath (for the kids), but actually quite enjoyed the time away from the internet! Really enjoyed our stay, and the kids loved the farm animals

The only word of warning was the road at the bottom of the farm track. It was much too dangerous to walk down. There was no footpath and on a blind bend, it was also very busy with traffic. Because of this we took the he car every time for our safety.

Very nice cottage,we had an enjoyable 4 days in barn owl cottage.Wendy showed us around,on arrival, and left us to do our own thing, just how I like it. The cottage was very warm, and comfortable, and within easy access to main routes. I did some cycling, and enjoyed the routes, and hills around Cromford. The climb back up to the cottage tested me after a few miles around the peaks. I will be returning all 3 of us,thoroughly enjoyed the stay.

We took our little boy and he absolutely loved every minute on the farm, and spent lots of time with the animals. He even got to see some tiny lambs. The owners were very friendly and welcoming, and the cottage had everything we needed. We will definitely be back.

Following a warm welcome from Wendy, we found our cottage was cosy, spotlessly clean and well equipped, including milk and biscuits. Ideal place to stay with a dog. The only downside from our two teenage boys perspective was that there was no wi-fi. Didn't bother Mum and Dad! Lovely area, good walks from the door step, although there is a short distance along the road into Cromford with no pavement . Good places to eat out in Cromford and Matlock bath. Over all we had a great holiday, and would definitely stay again.
