The garden and terrace of the cottage is a great place to relax and watch the varied visiting birds, and for cosy nights, the lounge with wood burning stove is the perfect place to be. This is a beautiful retreat to really get away from it all. The village, which is located in the Upper Tywi Valley boasts an award winning real ale pub with a reputation for great food, so good the Duchess of Cornwall has popped in for a drink as HRH Prince Charles has a country residence nearby.
The local area is steeped in history and tales, one such being the legend of highwayman Twm Siôn Cati, who hid out in caves near the village. The county of Carmarthenshire, known as ’The Garden of Wales’ has become a big draw for walkers, cyclists, anglers and lovers of the outdoors and is the largest county in southern Wales, stretching from Carmarthen Bay in the south to the western Brecon Beacons and Cambrian Mountains in the north. It offers rich landscapes, gardens, ancient castles, wildlife and sandy beaches as well as market towns brimming with local produce, chic shopping and eateries.
Llandeilo is one such town, less than 30 minutes drive away and the market town of Llandovery is just 10 minutes drive. Other places of interest nearby include National Trust Dolaucothi Goldmines (tours available) and the lakes of Llyn Brianne and Llyn-y-Fan Fach, the lake that gave rise to the Arthurian legend of the Lady of the Lake. Fishing, horse riding and yoga lessons are available nearby.

Absolute gorgeous cottage.
Absolute gorgeous cottage. Splotlessly clean and very spacious. Couldn’t fault anything. Beautiful views so peaceful and quiet. Weather was awful but with the log burner going in the lovely cozy living room very enjoyable. There is a pub just up the road unfortunately closed for redecoration when we were there but didn’t bother us. Took a Short drive to the local dam with the most breathtaking views worth a look and a nice walk. Will definitely return to this lovely cottage. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

Just spent a week with 8 of us.
Just spent a week with 8 of us. The house itself was really nice, very comfortable, lots of space for 8 of us. Self-catering places normally have terrible beds, terrible showers and not enough equipment in the kitchen – not this place. Supremely comfortable beds and sofas, lovely hot power showers, lots of pots and pans and plates etc in the kitchen. There was a patio outside with gorgeous views over the green Welsh hills – the patio could be redone nicely and cleaned up a bit to make it perfect. It felt a little unloved – difficult I know when it is a rental – but maybe some new paving and fake plants in tubs so it always looks nice. The owner of the cottage is lovely and was happy to answer all sorts of questions I had beforehand and immediately fixed a few things that we found unsatisfactory. The location is very pretty and has a lovely river at the bottom of the hill, a great pub 50 metres away and a nice walk at the Lyn Brianne dam 10mins drive away - but that is all! It is a drive up into the hills on a very windy narrow road. The nearest shop (nice big Co-op) is 15mins drive down the hills in Llandovery and another one in Llandeilo (which is on the way back from the places we visited) and most things you may want to visit are a min of 45 minutes drive away. So make sure you plan your meals etc as is a pain if you forget anything!!!! We organised a big Tesco delivery for the Friday evening and then just got bits and bobs we needed during the week on our way home from our days out. places worth a visit - Llanelli (go to Millenium boardwalk for a nice long walk along beach). Dinewfr castle, National botanical gardens, Aberglasney Gardens, National showcase of Caves. a lovely week all in all - great house, would recommend. It must be firstly emphasised that Gwar Nant is a spacious, well-equipped property with comfortable accommodation. Inside is great, in summary. However, the outer areas need maintenance. The rear patio area is neglected and poses a danger to toddlers ( especially ) owing to damaged/eroded "barbeque" fixtures and unsecured "coal hole". That rear area is highly unsightly, yet the landscape views South are magnificent, sometimes enhanced by a visiting buzzard. The garden furniture and exterior paint need attention, as the initial appearance upon approach down from the entrance, past the established weeds is not that of a luxury cottage, or indeed as misleadingly depicted on the website ( as of 14th August 2019, and at our time of booking ). The only "welcome pack" for us was a box containing an assortment of teabags. Not what the website implies and, in our previous experience with other cottages, a welcome pack typically comprises a pint of milk/box of chocs et al. Owing to the fact that the nearest ( excellent ) food shop is in Llandovery, and one has travelled, likely as not, a formidable distance, a pint of milk, and a bara brith would have been welcome, for example. In conclusion, please do not be put off using the property owing to the state of the rear. We will be contacting the owner; the cleaner is aware. The locality of the Towy Valley is beautiful, friendly and excellent for walking and wildlife. Also be aware that the Royal Oak has changed hands and it too has a misleading website. The shop there is closed.

We were looking for a cottage to spend a long weekend at during half-term, that would sleep 6 comfortably as well as accommodate a dog. Gwar Nant Cottage seemed to cater for all our needs. When we arrived we were not disappointed at all. The cottage is very spacious indeed and decorated and furnished to an extremely high standard. I would like to give particular mention to the quality of the beds, as all of them are are incredibly comfortable, which I have found to be quite a rare thing in other places I have stayed. The owners have included a lot of extra little touches which give it a very homely feel. The views from the garden are breathtaking and you can get lost in the peace and quiet of the surroundings. This a fantastic cottage to stay in and I would highly recommend it.
