A family week in the Dales

Lovely little cottage. Clean, warm, and well stocked with pretty much everything you would need to get a family through 5 days. Location is stunning and pretty remote so don't expect a shop close by and come prepared with your food basics. If you want a few days away from it all reading your book or walking locally its perfect. Netflix on the evening was a bit hit and miss but no big deal. We drove a little further afield to the Waterfall trail at Ingleton. An hour away but just beautiful and well worth the drive.

A fabulous away from it all location.

A fabulous away from it all location. Walks from the door. Great meal in the pub only a short walk away (CB inn). Cosy and comfortable cottage with everything we needed. Stunning views from windows. Ours was a December break and we had a lot of snow so didn’t venture out in the car but did plenty of long walks in the immediate area. Lovely log burner to return to. We had a wonderful time, reading, walking and visiting the local pub, the market towns of Barnard Castle and Richmond, the castles and ruined abbeys. Just what we needed, and the good people of the Yorkshire Dales were great. Thank you. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

We particularly appreciated the good quality kitchen equipment and the plentiful supply of good coat hangers! The wood burning stove looked a bit complicated so we didn't use it. The TV was also a bit complex but we got the hang of it. We've given the lowest rating to 'local amenities' because it's in the middle of nowhere but the CB Inn is recommended for a meal out. Just remember to take a torch because when you walk back it's absolutely pitch black. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

This cottage has an absolutely fabulous view from the upper floor kitchen/diner and sitting room.

This cottage has an absolutely fabulous view from the upper floor kitchen/diner and sitting room. Just loved watching the lapwings, curlew and sheep of course! Be careful on the rough track down to the cottage as your car may hit bottom. The car park is good though. Enjoy the excellent CB Inn a short walk away. We loved the property and we love all the walks in the area and beyond. Despite autumn weather, we made the most of our time and got a good walk done every day. It did not matter if we got wet as we had the lovely cottage and very efficient log burning fire to make us warm and cosy. There are not any local amenities, but we knew that and we had all we need plus there is a nice pub just down the road.

Our second stay there.

Our second stay there. The views are amazing and the cottage comfortable. We like the living area on the first floor where you can make the most of the view. We missed having a dishwasher but that is all the more reason to take the short walk to the CB Inn for dinner. The only sound at night - an owl hooting!

Thanks to it’s upside down layout 5 Swallowholm enjoys fantastic views, is well equipped, has comfy beds and lashings of hot water. A shame then that on our arrival, we walked into a cold cottage with a damp and musty smell. The log burner went some way to giving us immediate warmth but it wasn’t till the next day, after we’d switched them on, that the storage heaters kicked in. Also the TV could have benefited from some instructions as to how to work the various handsets. Thanks eventually to Hannah. On leaving the property we were asked to strip the beds, not in itself a problem, but it led to the discovery of two less than hygienic looking pillows which were minus pillow protectors.

The location is great.

The location is great. The cottage is very good but for some reason not as welcoming as last year, not sure why. Had a great time except for last evening invaded by very large family group in no 4 with some camping in field. Not the fault of owners of no 5 just one of those things.

Another delightful time-out at Swallowholm - there have been many.

Another delightful time-out at Swallowholm - there have been many. The amenities are the fresh air, the lambs in the field, the peaceful going on of life in the dale where very little changes other than the seasons, the challenges of finding new versions of old walks, the massed primroses on the slopes of the Swale valley going north from Muker......and the discovery of Helwith Farm's scones and white goats.
