Tucked away in the centre of the beautiful village of Bonsall, this perfect ‘chocolate box’ hideaway has been expertly turned into a secret haven by the owner’s keen eye for interior design and renovation. Exquisite soft furnishings and furniture, along with a cosy woodburner, add to the charm and character. With two double bedrooms (one spacious and one more compact), Penny Cottage sits detached, directly on the Limestone Way where you can experience charming fields, dales, caves, cliffs, gorges, woodland and riverside paths along the route. Bonsall is a village of 1000 inhabitants in the Derbyshire Dales on the edge of the Peak District and has a long history of lead mining, possibly going back to Roman times, and is mentioned in the Domesday Book. Bonsall inhabitants have been involved in the textile industry, pre- and post-Arkwright. In early modern times it was on an important salters’ route, and was a staging post on the road between Derby and Manchester. Situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park and just a short drive from the famous Arkwright Mills at Cromford, Penny Cottage makes an ideal base from which to explore the region’s attractions. Matlock and Bakewell are close by, as is the picturesque village of Crich with its fantastic Tramway Village, while majestic Chatsworth House and Carsington Reservoir, with its sailing centre, are well worth a visit. After a day exploring, sit in the beautiful garden with a glass in hand as the sun sets over the tree-lined fields. Shop 400 yards, pub and restaurant 100 yards.

A beautiful cottage in a wonderful location.
A beautiful cottage in a wonderful location. Very clean and well equipped. The owners are very welcoming and helpful. The cupcakes were a lovely gesture and greatly appreciated. Great pub and tea shop near by - both serving good food. Would love to return. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

Beautiful, well equipped cottage with a lovely garden in a quiet and peaceful setting.
Beautiful, well equipped cottage with a lovely garden in a quiet and peaceful setting. We loved our 4 nights there and would have liked to have stayed longer. The local pub is just 100 yards away and does takeaway meals in the early evening if you require them. The only downside is having to park in the pub car park and walk up a fairly steep public footpath and 14 steps with your luggage to reach the garden gate to the cottage, which is not ideal if you have disability issues. The cottage was very clean and the owner Rachel was very kind and welcoming and left us some beautiful cupcakes and milk in the fridge on our arrival. Highly recommended! What a wonderful cottage! Possibly the nicest we have ever stayed in.
What a wonderful cottage! Possibly the nicest we have ever stayed in. Perfect location in a small friendly village, but off the main street away from noise and traffic (access is 30 yards up a steep slope with a dozen shallow steps). The "Limestone Way" path is only a few steps from the kitchen door so ideal for those who enjoy walks up in the hills with breathtaking views of the village nestling in the valley below. Great pub (dating from 1677) with good pub food and real ale is only 40 yards away on the other side of the road. Cottage has been modernised inside. Lovely clean kitchen with all mod cons, comfortable sitting room and separate dining room with large oval table. Lovely, spotlessly clean modern bathroom with roomy double size quarry tiled shower cubicle and "rainfall" type shower head delivering lots of hot water.Very efficient central heating and a log burner in the sitting room if it gets chilly later in the year. We couldn't find a local shop but large Sainsbury's in Matlock only a 10 minute drive away via the back roads over the top of the surrounding hills. I would unhesitatingly recommend this cottage for Peak District lovers. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

Absolutely beautiful cottage and exceptionally clean , fitted through out with Quality fixtures and fittings. Great communication with owner and fantastic information pack. I would definitely recommend. My recommendation for future improvements to the cottage would be 1. better Wi-fi currently very, very slow. 2. Larger TV with Netflix or sky. We loved the cosy comfort and pretty garden of Penny Cottage. We found it well-equipped and super clean so we settled in immediately. The location is great too with nice walks and a good tea room just a few minutes away. We enjoyed chatting to the cows in the neighbouring field too! Penny Cottage is a lovely place to stay.
Penny Cottage is a lovely place to stay. The extra touches, cupcakes and fresh flowers upon arrival. Very clean, and with Covid, plenty of hand wash and sanitiser. Felt very at home and relaxed. We couldn’t always park on the pub car park due to us having a large truck, but could park on the street somewhere. Would definitely stay here again. An absolute gem of a cottage.
An absolute gem of a cottage. The owner has obviously spent time thinking through what makes a great holiday rental. Everything has been thought of. The cottage is beautifully put together, and very tasteful. Not a sign of Ikea anywhere! We spent a week here and none of us wanted to leave. The local pub which is 30 steps away is a great bonus. And the Victoria Sponge left as a welcome was sublime! Thank you Rachel.

We had a wonderful and relaxing week at Penny Cottage.
We had a wonderful and relaxing week at Penny Cottage. Lucky enough to have good weather, we made the most of sitting in the beautiful cottage garden where the only sounds were the bees and church bells sounding. The cottage itself was extremely comfortable, with tasteful decor and a wonderful attention to detail - thanks so much for the welcome message, flowers and of course the cake which we really enjoyed. Penny Cottage is well placed to travel around the area and we made the most of re-visiting places we ventured to over 20 years ago.

Probably the nicest holiday cottage we have been in.
Probably the nicest holiday cottage we have been in. Beautifully decorated and furnished, super clean and very well equipped. We arrived late in the evening to cut flowers on the table, a homemade lemon drizzle cake with fresh cream (in the fridge!) and a welcome message spelt out in Scrabble letters - so thoughtful and very welcoming after a long journey. The cottage is surrounded by lovely views of the village and countryside - and there is a fabulous walk over the back of the cottage to the Barley Mow pub (highly recommended) which we did several times during the week. The garden is very pretty too with plenty of chairs to relax in - the kids found enough space to turn cartwheels. The village of Bonsall has everything you need including several pubs, a tearoom, shop and playground. It has a long history and there is a book in the cottage all about Bonsall which was an interesting read. The village proved to be a great base for exploring the Peak District - we packed in a lot but there’s still much more to see. We really relaxed on this holiday and didn’t want to leave!

This is one of the loveliest cottages we have stayed in in many years.
This is one of the loveliest cottages we have stayed in in many years. Immaculately presented, beautifully equipped, in a very pretty village near to many attractions: Haddon Hall, Masson and Cromford Mills and canal, Chatsworth, Calke Abbey, Kedleston Hall, Sudbury Hall, Bakewell and Buxton. The cottage is set in a lovely garden - which is beautifully planted and maintained and has some nice garden furniture - up a footpath (part of a network of footpaths around the village of Bonsall) and steps, the kitchen is equipped with excellent appliances and is bright and airy, the adjoining dining/breakfast room is large and comfortable with a good supply of board games and books (all in great condition and well chosen), next door a good sized living room with a good TV and comfy chairs and a big sofa, upstairs are two pretty bedrooms - one with a five foot bed which is supremely comfortable, and a lovely bathroom with a walk in shower we wished we could take home! The whole cottage is warm with great central heating and a log burner for the colder months, bright and light and we would recommend this cottage to anyone who likes a peaceful and quiet location - the church bells were all we could hear at some times! We were welcomed with homemade mini Victoria Sponge cakes and chocolate dipped Strawberries in the fridge! This is a truly well thought out and beautiful holiday home equipped to the highest standard and a great find in a lovely area!

A beautiful cottage positioned next to the Limestone Way.
A beautiful cottage positioned next to the Limestone Way. Tastefully decorated, comfortable beds and warm. The weather was cold the week we stayed so we were very grateful for a toasty warm cottage to return to at the end of the day. Thank you for all your thoughtful touches and especially the delicious cake. Bonsell is close to all of the local sights and there are many walks from the cottage door. The tearoom in the village was a welcome sight at the end of a circular walk especially as we were always getting lost! Unfortunately the pub across the road was closed for refurbishment but we look forward to using it on our next visit. Jane & Simon

Had an amazing holiday in Penny cottage its just stunning.
Had an amazing holiday in Penny cottage its just stunning. So beautifully decorated and so well equipped. We arrived to a scrumptious fresh sponge cake made by the owner Rachel, hot chocolate and wee Easter eggs. But to be left milk and pots of tea, coffee herbal tea and various kitchen condiments was amazing, so handy and a super surprise. The cottage is ideally situated away from traffic, located opposite the pub which serves delicious meals. The gorgeous garden with table and chairs and a cute garden boat seat to chill in the sun was perfect. A lovely collection of DVD's, books and board games were enjoyed. The beds were comfy, the cottage cosy / warm and always lots hot water, we loved eating our meals together in the spacious dinning room. There was plenty of literature to hand of activities in the local area. We had a fantastic time White water rafting, rock climbing / abseiling, following the local walks and thoroughly enjoyed our stroll around the reservoir and our Saturday morning park run at Bakewell. Thank you was a pleasure to stay in your lovely home.
