A superb base for exploring Swaledale, the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the North York Moors, making York House an ideal location for touring this wonderful area. Hudswell is a small ribbon village sitting on top of the valley above the River Swale, located just two miles from its better-known neighbour of Richmond. Set in delightful rolling countryside, the village boasts a mixture of lovely old houses and an interesting local pub. Like many village pubs, it recently fell on difficult times, so the villagers clubbed together and now run it as a ’Community Pub Initiative’.
Discover the ancient market town of Richmond, which stands to the north of the River Swale. Its cobbled streets, narrow alleys and architecture embody nine centuries of history and unique character. The town grew up around its castle, and today there are wonderful walks to be enjoyed by the castle or alongside the River Swale.
York House is ideal for those seeking a comfortable and relaxing holiday and offers a perfect base for exploring all of North Yorkshire including the Heritage Coastline and the medieval city of York. There are historic sites to visit at Rievaulx and Fountains Abbey, stately homes at Nunnington Hall, Castle Howard, and numerous quaint villages with traditional inns serving good food and local ales. Family fun can be found at Flamingo Land, Lightwater Valley Theme Park and Go Ape in the Dalby Forest. You can find miles of sandy beaches at the coastal resorts of Scarborough, Whitby and Filey. The cottage is well situated in a beautiful area.
The cottage is well situated in a beautiful area. It is very spacious and has parking for a number of cars on a large drive. The kitchen is very well equipped. We would suggest a deep clean for the cottage, as a few areas definitely needed extra attention. But, overall, we had a comfortable stay and enjoyable time.

A lovely house, which comfortably accommodated 10 of us.
A lovely house, which comfortably accommodated 10 of us. Great location for exploring the Yorkshire Dales. The George and Dragon pub, just up the road, is superb. Some decor and carpets are a little ‘tired’ as are the en-suite showers. However, These are minor criticisms; I would definitely book again.

We stayed at York House for a family birthday. 12 of us & 2 dogs. We found the house very spacious and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owner John was very friendly & welcoming. The local pub & shop were a short walk away. We would recommend this property & would love to stay again.

Fantastic house for our large family.
Fantastic house for our large family. John was very accommodating and communication was excellent. A good walk into Richmond approx 2miles. Good to have a pub in the village, but book if you want to eat as it gets busy. If you want newspapers order at pub/shop they will deliver to the house but they don’t keep spares.

We stayed here for a weekend for a large family gathering with a dog included.
We stayed here for a weekend for a large family gathering with a dog included. The location is peaceful with beautiful views over the Dales to the rear of the good sized garden. There is a very good pub about a 5 minute walk away (with a tiny shop attached for those last minute grocery necessities). John, the owner, is very helpful and was very relaxed about our check-out time on the Sunday. I would say that some of the rooms need a bit of a refresh, although they were perfectly clean and fine for use and it would benefit from a small welcome pack (coffee, tea, bread and butter). That being said I would recommend the house and would go back.

This was a good find.
This was a good find. The house is roomy and well equipped, although the crockery, cutlery and glassware all need attention. The bedrooms are comfortable and would sleep 12 adults easily with 5 double/ king sized beds and one twin room, although the showers in baths are not very powerful. Living accommodation is good and the views are spectacular. We had difficulty with the power supply, plugs shorting, and the owner worked quickly and hard to solve the problem. The village is not particularly beautiful but the local pub is absolutely wonderful. Not to be missed!

Good house for a gathering of friends.
Good house for a gathering of friends. Bedrooms clean and comfortable and plenty of living room space. Kitchen space is limited by the dining table and kitchen equipment was a mix of lots of crockery and pans, but a lack of larger bowls and serving dishes. A folder with instructions, e.g. on the bins/ recycling arrangements , would also have been helpful as it wasn't clear what could be recycled and where it should go. Minor niggles really - and we would consider going back as the location was great and the local pub did an excellent Sunday lunch

A great base for a big family get together - 9 adults plus baby and dog. A lovely spacious house which was warm, cozy and comfortable. Comfy sofas and beds. 6 bedrooms 3 of which are ensuites. South facing garden with lovely views. We had a really good time. John the owner very friendly and helpful. A quiet lovely village with well signed walks from the door (Richmond not far through the woods and by the river). Good pub with real ale, good food and a warm welcome 5 mins walk.
