Its garden is lovely and peaceful and is a hive of bird activity with a variety of species spotted from the conservatory/dining room. The village of Brotton dates back to medieval times when it was known as Brocturn, or town at the brow of a hill, and lies just 2 miles from the seaside resort of Saltburn-by-the-Sea famous for its Grade II listed pier, one of the world’s oldest funicular cliff railways, a genuine smuggler’s bay and surfing. The Cleveland Way snakes its way through the area, making it an ideal place for hikers and bikers. A haven for those who like to fish, ranging from fly fishing to sea fishing for cod, carp, bass, trout, pike and mackerel, to name just a few of the local catch. There is also a golf course with a floodlit driving range within 10 minutes’ walk. Saltburn is also filled with plenty to do for all the family including crazy golf, a play factory and fabulous family friendly beach.
The dramatic Heritage coastline is home to some amazing hidden gems and coves such as Robin Hood’s Bay, Runswick Bay, and just 17 miles away is the jewel of Whitby. This enchanting fishing town is home to 3 miles of unspoilt beach, boat trips, cobbled backstreets filled with shops and bazaars as well as some fabulous cafes and restaurants.
Hidden amongst miles of public footpaths and country roads of the North Yorkshire Moors are delights such as the North York Moors Steam Railway, which snakes through the heart of the National Park.
There is also a variety of theme parks in the area such as Lightwater Valley, Beamish Museum and Flamingo Land to keep the young ones and the young at heart entertained. The walled city of York is just over an hour’s drive away where you’ll find the National Railway Museum and the Jorvik Viking Centre, or just enjoy a lovely day out exploring the walls and cobbled streets.
The owners of Old Grange House also have a livery, so DIY or full liveries are available, and there miles of horse friendly beach so you can even take your horse on holiday. Beach 2 miles. Shop and pubs 500 yards, restaurant 700 yards.
