About this property

Come to Michouat and discover Gascony and the Pyrenees! You'll fall in love!

18th century charm, 21st century comfort “Michouat” is the name of our property here just outside the village of Vidou, about 2km from the little Gascony Bastide town of Trie-sur-Baïse. Built in the 1880s, Michouat is a traditional L-shaped Gascony farmhouse, with the family living in one side and the livestock and winter stores in the other. It remained a working farm until the end of the 1990’s when the land was sold off and the barn side of the property was tastefully converted into a Pyrenees holiday gîte. • The Living Room With its solid oak beams, Michouat’s Living Room is warm and cosy. There are comfy armchairs and a sofa for you and your company to relax in, read a book, watch DVDs (provided) or catch up on your favourite (UK/French) TV programs and, of course, there’s free WiFi throughout the property. There’s a period wood-burning stove to take the edge off any out-of-season evening or early morning chill, supported by two electric wall heaters. • The Kitchen / Dining Room includes seating and all modern conveniences to keep a family happy during your holiday with a gas cooker/oven, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine, kettle, toaster, fridge/freezer etc. In addition there’s an iron, ironing board, and a drying rack! • There is an outside dining table on the patio in the shade of a parasol, and it’s also perfect for watching the sun go down on a lovely summer’s day in Gascony. • The bathroom comprises of a modern fitted shower unit, washing facilities and WC. The double bedroom includes a king size double bed. All bedding and towels are provided, if required at an additional cost or you can bring your own. There is a private en-suite WC with wash basin. The room also includes a mobile electric fan heater. •The other bed room includes three single beds. All bedding is provided, if required at an additional cost or you can bring your own. There is a private en-suite WC with wash basin. The lounge area also includes two electric wall heaters. • The swimming pool is fully-enclosed and you can top up your sun tan on one of our comfortable pool-side sun loungers. The pool is cleaned daily. Pool rules are displayed for the safety and security of our guests. • The Solana Quattro 6-Person Hot Tub – designed and engineered to provide total comfort to you and your family is privately exclusive to the Gite guests only. You can comfortably enjoy the ultimate foot massage with the people who matter most to you! Variable water jets, waterproof bluetooth music system, what better way to finish off the day! Relaxation and Games As well as sun loungers you can let it all hang out whilst snoozing in the hammock! And for those who who still have some energy left over we have a stock of traditional board games and of course our ever-popular table-tennis table (in the shade of course!) The department of the Hautes Pyrénées is part of the relatively undiscovered and tranquil south west of France known as Gascony. The small village of Vidou is situated just 3.5 kilometres from the 13th century bastide market town of Trie sur Baïse (pronounced Tree sue’r By-ease), which offers all day to day requirements, with banks, restaurants, bars, bakers, supermarkets, butcheries, pharmacies, doctors, dentists and tourist information bureau. A bustling market takes place every Tuesday.

About the host

We have been together for 17 years, many of them working in professional high pressure environments. When the opportunity arose for a different direction in life, we decided this was the gateway to do what we do best which is to provide great hospitality, spend the majority of the time living outdoors and to give visitors a fantastic holiday experience, all against the backdrop of a more tranquil way of life, meeting new people and embracing a new culture.

We have a self-contained Gîte with all modern conveniences, and our Chambre d’Hôtes comprises two rooms, each with private or ensuite bathroom. This is “Michouat”, your Home from Home!

We offer, on request, Table D'Hote, a BBQ feast, hosted by us and Continental breakfast at an additional cost and with a minimum of 24 hours notice.

What makes this property unique

Attractions
There are many attractions which can be visited within approximately one hours drive, ranging from outdoor pursuits, the Pyrénean National Park, caves, castles, churches and bastide towns. Places to visit for a day trip include Lourdes, Toulouse, Pau, Medieval town of Carcassonne, Biarritz and the sandy beaches of the Atlantic coast. An hours drive will take the tourist across the border and into Spain.
Vidou and Trie sur Baïse are ideally situated in the Department of The Hautes Pyrénées, allowing easy access to many places of natural beauty, breathtaking scenery, historic and cultural interest. Some examples follow:
Biarritz/St Jean de Luz: Biarritz is an easy 2 hour drive.
Pau: In 1 hour you are in the centre of a town that has, for over a century, had a very English influence, resulting in many fine buildings and a higher ratio of parks per head of population than any other town in France.
Lourdes: A 45 minute drive takes you to the second most important site for the Catholic Religion.
The Pyrénées: Skiing, tobogganing and walking in the winter, fishing, hiking, climbing, rafting, hang gliding and other extreme sports to name but a few, during summer. Visit the many cave formations along the whole mountain range.
Toulouse: 1 hour 30 mins to Blagnac airport, or into the town centre.
Gavarnie: The Cirque de Gavarnie, a UNESCO site, is the best known feature of the Pyrénées, and Gavarnie is the most visited village. Its fame is justified by the impressive natural amphitheatre walls which rise in a sweep of over 1300 metres from the green valley floor.
More details on any of the above destinations and many others not on the list may be obtained from the owners.
Fishing
All you need to know: Michouat – Fishing in the Pyrenees. 3 local fishing lakes within 20 mins drive.
The area is well served with motorway links to the Channel Ports; Santander and Bilbao (Spain) are an approximately 3½ – 4½ hour drive for those who fancy a leisurely trip by ferry.
