About this property

Completely renovated ancient villa and tower in the heart of Chianti, Tuscany!

This is a unique and historic wine country villa set in the heart of one of the most famous wine countries in the world, Chianti. The Tower was built circa1085, making it nearly 1000 years young. The interior has been completely remodeled and outfitted with all of the modern amenities. Contemporary and comfortable furnishings throughout complement the ancient walls of this Tuscan villa.

Nearly every room boasts views of the mountain atop which the ruins of Montegrossi Castle are perched. Torre di Cancelli was, in fact, built to protect the highly coveted castle. A mild hike up the hill will take you inside this historic monument.

A short walk down the road leads you to the stunning Badia a Coltibuono, a former monastery that bottles its own wine and olive oil. Cooking classes, a restaurant, wine tasting, and tours are just a few of the things the abbey has to offer.

8km away, Radda in Chianti is a prized and ancient town in the area. A favorite local restaurant is Bottega da Giovannino. Be sure to say hi to Monica, the owner. She's quite the wine enthusiast and the food is excellent.

In the main house there are 5 bedrooms. 2 additional bedrooms in annex for a total of 7 bedrooms.
For those parties greater than 10 people, the annex with 2 bedrooms (max occupancy 4) will be opened. Those parties of 10 or less, will be hosted in the main house and tower only. If you desire the all 7 bedrooms and you have 10 or less guests in your party, you must make additional payment. Please inquire with owner before completing your booking.

MAIN HOUSE:
Ground floor: 1 bedrooms with king, 1 bedroom with queen size beds; 1 bedroom with 2 twin beds.
In the tower: 2 bedrooms: 1 with queen size (3rd floor), 1 with 1 twin and one double (2nd floor bunk beds), 1 full bath (2nd floor).

ANNEX:
1 bedroom with queen size; 1 loft with queen size.
1 Full bath.

GROUNDS:
10 acres of private property.
Outdoor pool, wood fire oven (perfect for pizzas), pool side gazebo and solarium.
Bocce court.
Outdoor dining with gazebo and BBQ.
Large stone patio between the main house and annex, great place for a wedding party, reunion or luxury vacation.

Gaiole

We had a wonderful stay with family and friends at the villa! The kids absolutely loved staying in the tower! The rustic charm of the villa and surrounding area was beautiful! Really enjoyed the small towns in the area, very convenient location. We had a few small issues with the annex but it did not spoil our experience!

Beautiful property

When we first got to the house we were disappointed as it is near the road and right next to a very large electricity pylon. However when you are in the house or garden you can’t see the pylon or road and the road noise is not very loud. The house is very nicely done and the views from the garden and terrace lovely. The kitchen could be a bit better equipped eg some Pyrex dishes, but we managed fine. The drive up to the house is quite tight and one of us scratched our hire car. They should cut back the rosemary bush growing over the wall so there is more room to get the car through. Unfortunately the WiFi didn’t work throughout the visit which was very inconvenient as three of us had to work part time so we spent a money on extra data. The younger members of the group didn’t have access to data at all which left them a bit annoyed. Obviously this was not the owners fault but it meant we didn’t get what we paid for. We asked for a refund to cover our costs and the loss of amenity - we really wouldn’t have come if we had known there would be no WiFi - but we haven’t received anything which is disappointing and unfair. The management company was very good and dealt promptly with our issues.

What a Gem!

You can feel the history as soon as you arrive at the property and then be amazed at the beautiful updates and décor which flow seamlessly with all the original characteristics of the tower. The property is incredibly maintained and sits atop a hill with panoramic views all around. All the rooms are really well appointed, all the modern conveniences you could ask for. We stayed at Torre as is was a great central point for us as we had events in Florence and Siena. Radda is only a short drive away and we had dinner across the street at Badia a Coltibuono which was great. It was a treat to stay in a such a historic home and Ken was such a great help in the planning of our trip and making our Italian holiday one of the best we have had. Looking forward to our next visit.

Amazing, once in a lifetime experience.

Amazing property and a great value. We stayed as a group of 13 including kids and the property couldn't have been more beautiful. The surrounding area is calm and peaceful. Even though the property is close to the main country road, its recessed and secluded. The owners (Ken and Chloe) couldn't have been nicer and communicated clearly. The pool was not available, and we knew that going in, but the cool afternoon breezes and higher elevation of the property made it very comfortable. The mosquito screens on all the windows are fantastic! I heard the pool is finished, can't wait to book another stay here. Highly recommend.

Absolutely Magical - Perfect Ambiance and Location.

This Gorgeous villa exceeded all my expectations for a perfect family summer vacation in Italy. The home is a perfect marriage of ancient charm and modern conveniences. The Pictures do not do this property justice; nestled within a stunning countryside the home authentically boasts a fairytale setting for an extremely romantic getaway, upscale event, or memorable family vacation. We were drawn to the history of the tower being the actual watchtower for the castle that sits atop the neighboring hill. While the castle is no longer habitable, the tower has been maintained fabulously and offers remarkable views of the castle from the front porch and princess windows within the tower. We visited this property as a joint family vacation with our 1-year-old daughter, our Friends and their 4 and 5 year old kids. We were in constant awe of the immaculate design details in the brick floors, stone walls, vaulted ceilings, unique window placements and winding stair case that eloquently travels through the kitchen, four floors of sleeping space, a bathroom, and lands on a glass floor for a view confirming you are at the top of an ancient tower! Several days we decided to spend our time at the villa, we took a family hike to the Castle, swam daily in the pool, and ran on local trails. Within walking distance we found a cute shop across the road and a monastery, which offered romantic and family friendly dining. We also spent time in Radda, a quaint town 15 mins away, with a movie theatre, restaurants, gelato and a grocery store. The location was ideal for quick trips to Siena and Florence. And we made day trips into Pisa, Lucca and Saturnia natural hot springs. This villa is a gem, my husband said numerous times during our stay "How fantastic is it that they allow visitors to stay here, it could be a museum”. And I kept thinking what a magical place to host a wedding. I highly recommend this treasure for a vacation rental or event location.

Fabulous Luxury Villa

I had the pleasure of staying at this gorgeous villa for a few night and days in early July 2016. I was lucky enough to be accommodated in the annex, which meant I essentially had an entire house to myself. The annex is very well appointed with everything you need to feel right at home. The kitchen is perfectly stocked with brand new supplies and appliances, including tableware, pots, pans, and the ever critical wine glasses! The bathroom was updated and luxurious--large walk-in shower. The bedroom was spacious and well furnished with a beautiful bed and wardrobe to store clothing. The furnishings throughout the house are classy, luxurious, inviting, and comfortable without detracting from the charm and feel of this perfect getaway location. The annex provides the perfect combination of privacy, yet is close enough to the main house to allow you to be part of the bigger mix if vacationing with a larger group/ additional families. The screened doors and windows to the building allow for airflow throughout the house without letting all of nature inside. The main house and remainder of the property is spectacular as well. The tile floors, exposed beams, arched doorways, all of it really lends perfectly to the overall feel of this gorgeous villa in its beautiful setting. Highly recommended for large groups or multiple families who would enjoy some privacy while enjoying the company of others in their group.
