wonderful stay at Higher Kellacott
We thoroughly enjoyed our four night stay at the cottage at Higher Kellacott. Our time there was a highlight of our trip to England. The location was gorgeous. Georgina and David were warm and friendly - the perfect hosts. We were lucky to arrive during lambing season and had the opportunity to hold one of the lambs and meet her family! The cottage was sparkling clean with every convenience. Georgina offers, for a fee, her homemade food and we happily partook of her croissants and vegetarian cottage pie. Georgina and David gave us wonderful advice about Dartmoor and we explored the moor and the Cornwall coast. We would love to go back to Higher Kellacott.

Dartmoor holiday
We really enjoyed our weeklong stay with Georgina and David . It’s a beautifully furnished cottage in a country setting with a field for a dog to play in. The host were welcoming and companionable but not intrusive. They told us about nice places to visit for wild swimming and the honey and food they sell is excellent. We had a great time exploring Dartmoor and we would love to come back there

Cottage gem
The cottage is outstanding, the photos really do not do the property or location justice, sat in a small hamlet surrounded by fields and wonderfully peaceful. We had a lovely relaxing stay and would highly recommend staying. Georgina and David were excellent hosts.

Home away from home
We thoroughly enjoyed our 12 night stay at Upper Kelkacott. Georgina and David are talented hosts who make their own honey, smoke their own bacon, make sausages, raise eggs and prepare ready to heat up meals. Everything was delicious. Such splendid hospitality. We appreciated the suggestions for things to do and see. We loved the cottage, the grounds and it’s proximity to the spectacular walks in Dartmoor. The little lambs had grown so much during our stay. The animals were a delight to watch.

A lovely holiday
Georgina and David are very friendly and welcoming hosts. We had a wonderful week staying in Kellacott. We enjoyed chatting to Georgina and David about their home produce, bee keeping and honey. The home produce is very tasty. Particularly the bacon, smoked salmon and honey. We enjoyed a circular walk around Kellacott, heading towards Broadwood. Strawberry fields farm shop is a great place to stop for everything you could possibly need. They also have a rapid charging point for electric vehicles. We did various walks and sightseeing. A great place to stay as a base for Cornwall, Devon and Dartmoor.

The destination justifies the journey!
Very well presented accommodation with beautiful furnishings and a massive bed! Equipped with all amenities required (and more!) for a short stay. The location, whilst challenging on the narrow access road, is fully worth it once you are there. David and Georgina were the most accommodating hosts, nothing being too much trouble at all, throughout our stay. Highly recommended and we plan to make a return visit.

Wonerful!
Without a doubt, the best holiday accommodation we have ever stayed in. Georgina and David have thought of everything you might need on your holiday and provided it! This is a first class cottage that we would recommend to everyone wishing to stay in this beautiful part of Devon. We enjoyed using all of the outside space surrounding the cottage, the stunning countryside and the sheer tranquillity of the setting. We will definitely stay here again.

Cosy farm cottage with lovely gardens
Higher Kellacott is a perfect hideaway if you want to get away from it all, very cosy with every comfort you could wish for. The gardens are a lovely place to relax and watch the sunset over the beautiful views of Dartmoor. Perfect location for exploring the moors as well as both north/south Devon and Cornwall.

Luxury Accommodation
All the things you would require for 5 star self catering B&B are here. Quiet location with views of Dartmoor. Superb king size bed, quality bathroom with great hot shower and bath. The kitchen is of a high standard with many basic ingredients already there. Proper coffee maker etc. Everything is geared for you to have a warm, comfortable, relaxing stay. Georgina is so welcoming and helpful and the food she supplied is top notch. Bread, croissants sausages etc. Worth every penny. You do need a car to enjoy you stay as walking from the cottage and the immediate vicinity is limited. Top marks though.

Fantastic space. Beautiful location, everything you could possibly need!
Great communication with the host. Good directions and so easy to find. The cottage is very well appointed, plenty of space with a luxurious feel. It was very comfortable. We enjoyed the outdoor space, loungers, garden, patio and bbq. The views of Dartmoor were lovely and we had clear nights and an almost full moon and with the stars out, it was amazing. We particularly enjoyed the home made produce of bread, bacon & sausages which were all very tasty. The location is stunning and it is extremely peaceful. I would highly recommend and definitely will be back!

The perfect relaxing location
It can be so difficult to find the perfect place to stay but this was it - everything about the cottage, location and hosts was absolutely right. The cottage was spotlessly clean (I pity any hopeful spiders, because they didn't stand a chance), beautifully and tastefully decorated, equipped to a terrifically high standard (three different ways to make coffee and a milk frother!) and so, so comfortable. Views across Dartmoor in the morning were idyllic. The local produce - home-cured bacon, sausages and eggs, home-baked bread - was delicious, and we took some home at the end of the stay. The cottage is perfectly located for central Devon and into Cornwall, walks on West Dartmoor or the north coast. East Dartmoor was a little further away - we visited Dartington Hall for a beautiful walk along the river Dart, seeing no fewer than three kingfishers, although this was about an hour and a quarter's drive so not quite so accessible. We would highly recommend the walk around Meldon reservoir and up to Black Tor (a bit boggy part way around), the Granite Way cycle track from Okehampton over to Lydford (tea at the National Trust site at Lydford Gorge), and the Tarka Trail (walking or cycling) from Okehampton up to Instow and onwards. For local towns, Launceston and particularly Tavistock are very pleasant. Georgina was the perfect host, showing us around the property on arrival (so often with places you are just left a keycode to a lockbox for entry, but not here, we were given a proper tour of the cottage), From then on we were left to ourselves, but Georgina was always available to answer any queries - not that there were any. Overall I can confidently say that this is one of the best cottages that we have ever stayed in, and I am sure that we will be returning. Thank you, Georgina, for making our stay so pleasant.

A perfect country retreat
We have just returned from a 4 night stay at Higher Kellacott cottage and thoroughly enjoyed it. The cottage itself is beautifully decorated and really felt like a home from home. Little touches like fresh flowers really added to the experience. The super king size bed was a dream to sleep in and the cottage had all the necessary home comforts and more. We took advantage of the locally produced bacon, eggs and honey during our stay which were all delicious. The location is remote but as long as you have a car the nearby towns are within easy reach. Georgina was a fantastic host, warm, accommodating and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

Exceptional modern cottage
Higher Keller Cottage is well above the average cottage and we could not fault anything. Georgina has not only provided all of the home comforts but has gone the extra mile to ensure that we had a wonderful week away. Would certainly recommend that guests take advantage of the home produced products as these were also of high quality. Good knowledge of the local area and well worth visiting some of the local pubs, restaurants and places as the cottages provides good access to both Devon and Cornwall.

Superb accommodation, this place is spotlessly clean and has been refurbished to a very high standard. Beautiful romantic cottage hidden away
Stunning cottage in a quiet and secluded location, stunning views of the countryside. Situated in Devon but on the border of Cornwall. The cottage is furnished to a very high standard with a beautiful kitchen with everything you would want and more. Especially if you love cooking. The bedroom is a great size with a extremely comfortable massive bed. The bathroom is furnished to a very high standard. Lovely bath and double shower. The living room is very practical with table and chairs to eat dinner. Also comfortable living room furniture and a fire. The outside space is a lovely extra which we enjoyed and had a Bbq out there. I couldn't fault this little find, and have booked again for the end of May. Georgian and her husband made us feel extremely comfortable. Can't wait to see them again and do some more exploring of Devon and Cornwall. Annabell and Steve.

Stayed in Higher Kellacott cottage for 2 nights but would love to visit again soon as Georgina has made this into a truely beautiful cosy cottage. It is spacious and has a lovely romantic charm to it as well. What we really liked was the attention to detail in the cottage from various amenities available to also the level of cleanliness. Would really recomend and also absolutely loved the home made preserves available.

About the host

Hosted by David and Georgina Tomkins

Host profile image
I enjoy walking on Dartmoor, wild swimming, cycling and body boarding. When not on the moors or working on our home, garden and fields, I enjoy family life, playing table tennis, listening to music, cricket and history. Cooking, home curing bacon and smoked salmon are also interests I pursue.

Why they chose this property

Higher Kellacott is a 17th century cob farm cottage, with various additions over the last 300 years making this a glorious mix of old and new. With a number of outbuildings and just under 3 acres of land, there's plenty to keep us occupied.
Devon is a great place to live and being able to enjoy the ever changing views across the garden of Dartmoor and Bodmin moor from such a beautiful location makes me feel very lucky.

What makes this property unique

The views in such a beautiful part of Devon, the proximity to Dartmoor being of particular importance to me. Being in a truly rural location, yet just minutes from the A30, making access to local towns, amenities and literally hundreds of locations and activities is a real bonus.
