11th CENTURY VILLA, Stunning View & Pool, Unrivaled Private Setting near Lucca

VILLA SEGALE is an historical stone country house dating from the 11th century, strategically located on the charming hills above Lucca. Its privileged position allows his guests to discover all the most important areas of Tuscany and Liguria (Portofino and Cinque Terre).

THE VILLA (5.000 ft² - 450 m²) ENJOYS AN UNRIVALED PANORAMA - almost certainly the best of the whole Lucca area - and it is SURROUNDED BY 80 ACRES (32 HECTARES) OF PRIVATE LAND, including VINEYARDS and OLIVE GROVES.

After long deep research on the territory, the villa was beautifully restored according to the HIGHEST STANDARD and COMFORTS:

- 80 Acres (32 Hectares) of private land, a good portion of which are vineyards and olive groves that ensure an outstanding and exclusive sense of privacy.
- Independent Air Conditioning in all six bedrooms.

*****THE VILLA*****

The villa, with its 450 SQUARE METERS, sleeps up to 12 PEOPLE and was beautifully restored according to the highest standard and comforts.
The ground floor is huge with a large entrance, a sitting room with fireplace, a formal dining room, a large fully fitted kitchen, a small study with a high definition satellite TV (with blu-ray player and a private movie collection), an elegant and cozy air-conditioned bedroom with joinable twin beds (if joined they form a comfortable queen bed), and a full bathroom. Two big panoramic verandas – the first one for dining, equipped with a stone BBQ and a spacious stone table, and the second one for relaxation, equipped with outdoor sofas – complete the ground floor.

On the first floor there are five air-conditioned bedrooms with en suite bathrooms: two of them are queen-bedded and are considered the magnificent master bedrooms; the other three bedrooms come with joinable twin beds (if joined they form a comfortable queen bed). All bedrooms are spacious with tasteful furnishing, ample wardrobe space and have large open windows overlooking the charming valley and enjoying the same spectacular view characteristic of the house.

The furniture dates back to the 19th century and was purchased in antique shops in the area of Tuscany. The wrought-iron comfortable beds were all handmade by one the greatest craftsman in Arezzo. Moreover, the Villa is completely floored with ancient mezzane, while ceilings have been restored with ancient chestnut beams. These are just a few examples, since only ancient original materials were used in the renovation process, in order to completely preserve the authentic Tuscan tradition of this unique magical place.

*****LOCATION AND PANORAMA*****

The location of Villa Segale is magnificent.
Perched among green and forested valleys west of Lucca, SEGALE IS SURROUNDED BY 80 ACRES (32 HECTARES) OF OLIVE GROVES AND VINEYARDS.

Such an uncommon spectacular area allows plenty of space to wander and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the property’s extensive grounds. Hence guests can join the natural unspoilt surroundings and admire the local fauna such as owls, birds, hawks, hedgehogs and fireflies.

The spectacular view across the valley towards the Renaissance monuments of the cities of Lucca and Pisa is to die for. Thanks to its exclusive position, on a typical clear day guests can admire the valley below and the whole landscape up to 40 km around. On the clearest days also the sea of Livorno can be seen.

Photos cannot portray the powerful details of such an exceptional view which is recognized as the most stunning in the whole area of Lucca.

Villa Segale August 2024
We had a great stay at Villa Segale - we loved being high in the hills above Lucca offering great views at all times; the house was comfortable and cool with great outdoor eating areas. The local Tuscan countryside was also great. Its a must do holiday. The Lee Family

Fabulous stay!
We had an absolutely fabulous stay from start to finish. The villa is in a beautiful spot and is very well equipped. The beds and linens (which are linen) are the most comfortable we've ever had in a home rental. The staff, from owner Marco through the caretakers and cooks Elisabettand and Michela are truly wonderful as well.

Fabulous location and views
A wonderful location and views -- as well as a beautiful house with simple but very elegant furnishing. Be aware, though, that the road to this house (with extreme hair-pin bends) is not for the faint of heart!

Stunning location
Wonderful house. You must have a four wheel drive vehicle to get there - long steep hill that becomes dirt road with ruts as you near the top. House manager and house cleaner are superb. Fully equipped kitchen.

A fantastic experience !!!
Our stay was spectacular!! The house was so beautiful with amazing views. Elisabetta cooked us delicious meals that were better than the restaurants. Marco and his family treated us like family. It was truly an amazing experience for my wife and I, it was sad to leave. The location of the house is perfect to visit so many different places in Tuscany. You will not be disappointed, highly recommended!!

Vacation of a Lifetime!!
This villa was beyond all of our expectations. As beautiful as the pictures are they cannot capture the true beauty of the villa and its surroundings. In addition, the owner, Marco, and his staff are simply amazing and so accommodating. There were 6 of us staying here and we were all so impressed with every single aspect and attention to detail. We will definitely come back in the near future and we highly recommend this location.

We loved Villa Segale
We loved our stay at Villa Segale. It’s a beautiful property and we were very well looked after by Marco, Alessio and the amazing housekeepers. It was the perfect place to relax, sit by the pool, hike and entertain at home. The Villa itself is beautiful and the views are incredible. Lucca is close by and a good base for restaurants etc and we also easily traveled to Forte dei Marmi, Florence and even Cinque Terra where Alessio organised an amazing boat ride for our family with Matilde Navigazione. We would definitely return to Villa Segale and highly recommend it. Our whole group of family & friends, including children, loved it.

A truly special and stunning villa
We were amazed at the beauty and tranquility of Villa Segale. We enjoyed 5 days there with our three boys and have never been more relaxed. The views are better than any postcard and the villa is exceptionally well appointed and equipped. We had a cook come in one evening to prepare a gorgeous dinner of fresh Tuscan cuisine. Both the owner Marco and the manager Michela were very responsive for anything we needed. We will be back!

A Wonderful Week in Northern Tuscany
The vista from the villa is breathtaking (as was the drive up the 3.4 km driveway)! The Leaning Tower of Pisa on the right and historic Lucca on the left! Cinque Terre and Florence reasonable drives for day trips. Restaurants, gelato and shopping a short drive away. The villa was spacious, appropriately rustic for its age and location, well-maintained and with a wonderful pool area. Its 6-bedrooms and 6-bathrooms accommodated our family of 6 adults & 3 younger children very nicely. Its restoration was thoughtful and impressive, you knew the building had class, strength as well as charm. We watched thunderstorms roll across the countryside, enjoyed caffe on the vine-covered patio, spent hours around the large dinner table, enjoyed sunrises, hiked the vineyard and driveway, spent afternoons at the pool and slept soundly. A wonderful evening dining experience of Bistecca alla Fiorentine, seafood risotto, poached pear, salad, and strawberry tiramisu produced by Lidia was arranged by the manager. Oh, and the wine.... A perfect place and a wonderful manager who was responsive and engaging.

Absolutely wonderful - better than we could have imagined!
We stayed at the Villa for 2 weeks, there were 10 of us total spanning 3 generations, 6 adults and 4 children. The villa exceeded our expectations in so many ways! The house was beautiful inside and out, the rooms were furnished beautifully. Despite how hot it was outside the air conditioners allowed for a very comfortable nights sleep and the pool was perfect for the heat. We enjoyed meals outside with the beautiful view of the valley and Lucca below. The house manager was so helpful as was the cleaning staff who came throughout our stay. The location is stunning and great for day trips to nearby towns. We could not be more pleased and hope to visit again in coming years! Thank you for our perfect vacation!

Beautiful views great house but too many wasps
Beautiful house but my husband allergic to wasp and we discover that they have huge wasp which were in the vine in front porch and on the side outdoor kitchen. The kitchen was missing some good sharp knives and the oven was not working properly. The city of Lucca is beautiful next time will not stay in the mountain since the drive in to the villa was not pleasant experience.

Heaven on the Hill
If you are looking for an authentic historic Tuscan villa experience to relax and enjoy time with friends and family there is no better stay. Located in a vineyard high on a hill with a simply unmatched view over Lucca and Pisa, Villa Segale is instantly charming. Restored with exceptional quality and care, the well equipped villa has everything you could want. Beside the view the two most outstanding features were the large modern pool and patio dining under vines where our group spend endless hours. In fact we enjoyed this so much we cancelled 2 dinners out to stay and prepare our own meals. Service from Allessio and Mellissa met our every need from arranging tours and restaurants to house chefs prepare excellent meals in. The one challenge is a narrow one lane road to the isolated location which severly tested our driving skills in a long wheel base van.

Fantastic house, great quiet location !
Dear Marco I wanted to tell you how much we all have enjoyed our stay at villa Segale. The house is very nicely done and with very good taste. Our kids have all use and abused the swimming pool which is very large and allowed us all to be in at the same time. Last but not least we wanted to tell you that our stay at villa Segale without the support of Elisabetta would never have been so pleasant. She has been much more than just kind and helpful. She has helped us with all things we needed, was very proactive and devoted. A very special mention to her. We all hope to return once to the villa, as our memories will keep an extremely sweet memories of our stay.

Stunning farmhouse delivers on all fronts!
The photos and description on the website do not serve Villa Segale well. It is a spectacular setting with the perfect, well-appointed, spacious farmhouse. We brought our family of twelve from the U.S. including 3 generations ranging in age from 2 to 65, to Lucca for vacation and to connect with our Italian roots. We enjoyed both staying at the villa/magnificent pool and exploring the countryside in northern Tuscany. Florence, Cinque Terre, Lucca and Volterra were some of our favorites and easily reached from Villa Segale. We reveled in having days to completely relax at the pool with a good book, fun family and a large glass of iced coffee with Bailey's! Michela, the onsite manager of the villa, could not have been more helpful, friendly and available. Thank you Marco for sharing your slice of heaven with us! We hope to return to make more family memories.

Truly a special place
We were a party of 10 (7 adults and 3 teenagers.) The moment we walked into Villa Segale we were overwhelmed by it's beauty. Everything about the villa was perfect: the location, the bedrooms with the lovely bathrooms, the well stocked kitchen, the large dining room, the lovely outdoor spaces...really I could go on and on... All of my communications with Marco were so easy and he was so helpful! Michela greeted us at the villa with a smile. She was very helpful and so nice! Elisabetta cleaned and cared for the villa while we were there and we were lucky enough to have her prepare a meal for us-it was delicious and beautifully presented. Our eight days flew by and we all want to return someday. I truly hope that someday is soon..I think I left part of my heart at Villa Segale.

Stunning top notch
We just finished 2 weeks at this perfect villa. The villa is meticulously restored using ancient materials and is set on 60 acres of wild flowers, olive groves, and vineyards at the top of a mountain. The views are amazing. Pour some vino, make a cheese plate and sit out by the pool and take it all in while the Tuscan sun is setting. As hard as it is to leave the villa it's in a perfect spot for day trips. Tons of small midievil towns are nearby to explore, the coast, and the mountains. 15 min away is the beautiful town of Lucca which we loved but we also went to Florence, Pisa, Cinque Terra, Tollaro, Viareggio, Pistoia, Barga, and MonteCarlo. Wineries are also nearby to tour. The house caretaker Michela is a friendly text away for any restaurant or town recommendations you need. And If you just want to stay but not cook Elizabeth will cook an excellent dinner at an affordable rate. We had 8 people, 4 adults and 4 kids and had more than enough room. A wonderful time was had by all, it was certainly hard to leave this beautiful place. I highly recommend this villa for the perfect Tuscany vacation.

Family Trip from Brazil: Grandparents. Parents and third generation around 12 and 16.
We are a party of 9 and since 2011. we travel together. Babies and Infants are now teenagers. The Villa is on a Hill, hidden from everything. The path is not easy, it is’s like going to heaven from ground, then it’s demanding. When we got there, the magical begun and each day I discovered how astonishingly the Villa Segale is. We decide not to go out everyday so we did relaxed, cooked and so on. The private Chef went over and I was an memorable experience. If you want to get together with parents, kids or friends, just go to Tuscany , Italy at Villa Segale . I assure you, it will be an experience completely different like Italian “dolce far niente”. Remember : - the road is like going up in a hill. - there are some stairs , wheels don’t go well at the House - there is no sound, only sounds from nature Thank you Marco, the owner. Buona Giornata a Te.

A Tuscan Treasure
Way up on a mountain top right outside of Lucca with breathtaking views of Lucca and Pisa you will find Villa Segale. When you drive up the beautiful and winding road you will encounter beautiful vineyards and acres of olive trees. Although the road to the top is somewhat challenging it is worth every moment when you arrive at this beautiful historic Tuscan villa. The accommodations were perfect for a party of twelve. Each couple had their own spacious bedroom and bath and shared a lovely living and dining room and a magnificent Tuscan kitchen and two outdoor verandas where we all enjoyed dining and watching the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Marco, the owner and Michela, the property manager provided excellent customer service. Any questions we had were dealt with quickly and professionally. On three occasions we hired a local chef, Antonella and her assistant, Lucretia. It was such a pleasure to stay at the villa and enjoy their local Tuscan cuisine. They were delightful to work with and we enjoyed their warm personalities and excellent culinary skills. This was truly a vacation of a lifetime which surpassed anything we could have hoped for.

Wonderful!!!!
The home and location was everything you could want for an Italian holiday. The home was enchanting and meticulously maintained. We had family rolling in and out throughout the weeks we were there and it had ample space inside and out to gather, relax and eat. Each bedroom had it's own bath and was a very nice size. The view is amazing from both the front porch, veranda and pool. You're set above the vinyards there and looking down upon Pisa and Lucca. It was convenient to many of the things you would want to do during your visit; Florence, Pisa, Cinque Tere, wine tasting, even Rome (but that is a long, long day). The Owner Marco and House Manager Michela were wonderful, if you needed assistance they were very responsive and helpful. There's a house book that has many wonderful tips on where to eat, shop and go but if you needed help with anything she was certainly a great resource. I would definitely recommend the personal chef Antonella. We had her come in 3 times during our visit and the food was the best we had in Italy. A magical evening for you and your guests! To sum it all up.......just Wonderful. If I go back to that area again I would certainly stay there again because I couldn't imagine any better .

Ultimate Italian villa Experience
At first I felt compelled to hide this treasure so that the rest of the world world not find out. After experiencing it myself, I came back on two separate occasions to share villa Segale with my family on my side and my wife's side of the family. In all, I've had the pleasure of staying at villa Segale on three occasions. Having been to Italy on more than a dozen occasions and staying at many wonderful places, I feel Segale is quite special and unique. I recommended Segale to a work colleague who also had a wonderful experience. Now that I've shared Segale with my extended family and friends, I am ready to share my experience with the rest of the world -- for some things in life are too good to not share. What can I say? clean, comfortable, spacious, safe (good security), good water pressure (even by american standards!), great location (close enough to easily access Lucca, but remote enough to experience the Tuscan country). The help was delightful. Perfect for two families. It reminds me of a wonderful Napa, California hillside property translated to Italian. My only advice would be to have a regular to smaller car as the access road is a bit of a zigzag and much easier to navigate with a "sports car" than say a "mini-bus". Also, the pool water temperature was a bit chilly, but we have always gone in early June. Enjoy!

Beautiful Villa
We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Segale. It was easy to find as you can access the villa's location putting the name into Google Maps. The villa is up on the hill which means that there is a 5 minute drive you must do to access it. We had a commercial van and a mid-sized UV. It was easy to do with the mid-sized UV, and took a little practice with the Commercial van. The Villa itself is very spacious and is very nice. It has a rustic look to it which we really liked. The view of Lucca was incredible both during the day and at night. We had a part of 10 and had plenty of space. The villa has a pool which we used several times. We used the chef service that was offered almost every night of our visit. There is a grocery store 10 minutes away that we used for breakfast and lunch the days we were in the villa. Using the chef service allows you to dine at the villa with the incredible views and I would strongly encourage you to take advantage of this if you stay in the villa. Our only struggle we had that drives the 4 star review is with the internet. The connection really didn't work at all for the entirety of our stay. They sent technicians to the villa at the end of the week but even then it still didn't work right. The landlord made it clear this was abnormal so this on its own wouldn't impact my willingness to stay at the villa.

Old World Charm and Service; New World Convenience
This is our third Villa rental in Tuscany and clearly the best. I have climbed many, many mountains in search of the quality of the view that you get routinely from the front patio, each bedroom window and the oversize outdoor dining table under the grapevines. The view is spectacular. The feeling is that of a large land owner without all the headaches that go with having a large estate! There are so many things to say that should help guide others: 1. The price is a great value. The property takes a bit of work to get to but you are handsomely rewarded. 2. The roads to the Villa are a bit challenging. They are very doable. After a couple of times up and down and you feel at ease. But you probably will experience a bit of anxiety on your first drive in. Just know that this is a very, very, very, very small added "price" to pay for the rewards ahead. 3. The owner provides exceptional customer service. Before your stay and during your stay, there is exceptional communication and responsiveness. 4. There are five bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and a sixth that has a bathroom a bit of ways away. There are gorgeous common areas laid out so that if you want to get away from others in the party for a bit of private time, it's so very easy. 5. One of my brother-in-laws is a political geographer specializing in Italian politics. His favorite city in all of Italy is Lucca. On visiting the walled city you'll agree that it is a much less crowded spectacular place to experience the joys that come with walking the cobblestones of an historic Italian town/city state. 6. We had three evening meals in the house so we could enjoy the views with wine. The Lucca valley is absolutely stunning in the evening sun into the night lights. 7. We used an agency for the day we went to Cinque Terre. A car took us to La Spezia where we boarded a boat to Porto Venere and then on to Cinque Terre. Lunch was at Belforte at Vernazza (must book in advance). We continued with a boat to Monterosso where we boarded a train to the car. The car returned us to the Villa. You can arrange some wonderful days that are highly creative! This Villa and this owner get my highest ratings. Lucca is way under appreciated as a Tuscan location and Marco cares deeply about his clients.

I am a doctor, who inherited this beautiful place almost 10 years ago. After generations this wonderful place 'arrived' to me and to my family, and we've immediately felt in love with it!

Why they chose this property

This is a truly unique place and that's the reason why I love it so much. Considering today's standards, it's almost impossible to still find places with similar attributes: a fascinating hystorical stonehouse surrounded by 32 hectares of private land - including olive groves and wineyards - immersed in a complete sense of privacy and tranquility. At the same time being so close to Lucca city (9km) as well as to other many fascinating places. This place is a truly hidden pearl !

What makes this property unique

Enjoying the most beautiful panorama of the Lucca area and living inside a traditional 11th century stonehouse that has been carefully renewed at the highest standards, while keeping completely intact the fascinating Tuscan tradition.

The location of the villa is also unique: it grants a strong sense of privacy and allows its guests to enjoy a real natural and regenerating experience. At the same time the strategic position - just 9 km from Lucca city - allows guests to visit all the beautiful cities and places of Tuscany (and also outside Tuscany) with day trips.
