You can see whales from the whale-watching platform at Point Piquet or off Eagle Bay Beach during their migratory months (June to November). Species include humpbacks, southern right whales and blue whales. Between August and November, they will often have newborn calves with them. Guests can book whale-watching tours from Dunsborough or Busselton.
Eagle Bay Beach is sheltered from the prevailing south-westerly breeze, perfect for swimming, beach activities and picnics. It often has a creek running across the sand, which is great for kids to build dams and channels. There are numerous inshore reefs for snorkelling. For the more experienced, you can dive on the wreck of the HMAS Swan - dive tours are available from Dunsborough.
Dunsborough is only a 10-minute drive away along the magnificent Eagle Bay-Meelup Road that winds along the coastline, passing Point Piquet and Meelup Beach. This road provides arguably one of the most scenic drives in WA, with the vivid turquoise waters contrasting with the blazing white sand, ochre rocks and bright green vegetation, in a stunning display of the natural beauty of Cape Naturaliste. Once you are in Dunsborough, enjoy the local scene, which includes coffee shops, restaurants, supermarkets, surf, and fashion shops.
You can also take the inland road to Dunsborough, passing Wise’s Winery and the Eagle Bay Brewery. Other nearby local attractions include Meelup Farm Restaurant and Eagle Bay Olive Farm. Further up the Cape is Bunker Bay Beach with the Bunker Bay Café and Bunker Bay Resort. Venture further afield to explore many more world-class wineries and restaurants in the Margaret River area.
