About this property

Tewksbury Lodge - Authentic Log Cabin

Tewksbury Lodge offers the unique experience of accommodation in an authentic, traditionally handcrafted Canadian style log cabin.
The Lodge offers Self Catering Accommodation with all the features and facilities you expect from 4 1/2 star accommodation, including superior furnishings, log fire and spa.
Situated on 2 acres of picturesque gardens with river frontage and views to Mt Buffalo. The Murray to Mountains Rail Trail for walking and cycling passes the front of the property.
Tewksbury Lodge provides an ideal retreat, uniquely different with the warmth and ambience only a true log home can provide.
Recline in your leather lounge suite inside, or sit back and relax outside in comfy chairs on the spacious verandah, with a private BBQ, overlooking secluded gardens. Stroll over to the swing seat and your own fire-pit above the Ovens river, with beautiful views to Mt Buffalo's gorge.
We do live on the property in a separate home, so we are available if required. However we respect your privacy and will leave you alone to enjoy your stay and the peace and quiet, unless you contact us. The rear of the property is quite secluded and reserved for your privacy, but guests are certainly free to enjoy the rest of the grounds.
Multi-award winning property:
3x winner, "Best Hosted Accommodation" - Alpine Business & Tourism Awards.
Finalist, Victorian Tourism Awards.

And you can sleep easy - We are Carbon Neutral

Tewksbury Lodge is an Eco Friendly dwelling and we pride ourselves on being environmentally responsible.
- 26 solar panels collect the suns energy and generate most of the properties electricity needs
- Double glazed windows increase insulation characteristics; warm in winter, cool in summer
- Grid electric power is 100% renewable, sourced from Hydro Electric generation
- The Lodge is a superb insulator. A conventional house has an insulation value varying from R2 to R4. This log cabin has an insulation value of R16. The very high insulation capacity reduces heating and cooling requirements.
- Large logs have another wonderful property - their thermal mass; they are capable of storing heat. When the cabin temperature is lowered (e.g., at night) they give back heat into the rooms until the temperature is again equalized.
- A skylight minimizes the need for artificial lighting during the day
- Ceiling fans reduce heating and A/C needs
- High efficiency instant gas hot water is used for it’s suitability to intermittent usage
- LED lighting is used for optimal energy efficiency

In a delightful garden setting the log cabin was spacious and beautifully appointed. The kitchen was well equipped for self catering and the bike trail almost at our front door! Everthing was perfect for our three night stay and we could happily stay longer.

The property and our hosts were fabulous. They thought of everything and were always happy to help. The location was also great - close to everything and right on the Ovens River. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Home away from Home
This was a well organized holiday place. The lodge was beautiful. The hosts were accomodating and available but non-intrusive. Even came and gave us a torch light when a storm cut power. Would recommend this holiday accommodation and will be returning with our next overseas visitors. The only one downside was the BBQ not being cleaned very well.

A lot of work has been put into this beautiful property - everything you can think of is there and easy to access. Right next to the river, also in town - a mix of worlds and well done!

5 stars all round
What a magic experience it was to stay in such a unique place! There is no other way to stay in the Bright vic high country than in a log cabin. The place was beautiful inside and out. What I loved the most was how meticulously clean and tidy the house was it just smelled so fresh and inviting. They really have thought of everything you could possibly need. Thank you for letting us stay and we will be back for sure!

A few issues
We decided not to stay at the property after arriving and spending an hour looking around. There were a number of reasons we decided to leave. The weather during our stay was oppressively hot and the cabin was as a result really uncomfortable. There was an airconditioner in the living room that reduced the temperature by a few degrees in there but all the fans in the bedrooms did was push hot air around. It was really uncomfortable inside. Outside there was some kind of really unpleasant smell, I'm not sure if it was coming from the river or a rotting compost pile in the garden. Either way the smell made sitting outside on the balcony or in the garden very unappealing. The smell made me feel nauseous. The bed linen was not what I'd expect from a property with such good reviews, perhaps we were just unlucky on this occasion but the king bed had small black/grey stains on the sheets and small rips and holes in the fitted sheet. Most of all we were disappointed to find that the cabin is located in the back garden of the owners property. The advertisement of the property describes the cabin as being situated on 2 acres of picturesque gardens. While it may be on 2 acres, the problem is the 2 acres is shared by the cabin and the owner's house. A pertinent detail which is left out of the description. We are quite private people and felt the description was deceptive. We would never have booked the property had we known it was on the same site as the owner's home and sharing the "2 acres of picturesque garden." Details like this really need to be disclosed to potential clients.

The perfect Log Cabin escape
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Tewksbury Lodge, Porepunkah. Our Log Cabin was absolutely beautiful, both in its surroundings and its pristine cleanliness. The beds were beautifully made and super comfy and everything we needed was there. We hope to go back soon.

Amazing
This beautiful log cabin continued to surprise us for our whole stay here, the owners have thought of everything. The coffee machine, leather reclining lounge, king bed, spa, beautiful gardens and my daughter especially loved that both bedrooms had a tv. Highly recommend, there was nothing we could fault and we were so comfortable and in love with this cabin we didn't want to leave.
