BIG HOUSE:( Pet Friendly on request ) ABSOLUTE BEACHFRONT, dunes, then beach.
Charming big spacious older style 2 storey beach-house backing on to the beach with your own beach path through the tropical garden. Polished timber floors, with a beautiful Bali feel.
Character-filled eco-chic family friendly home nestled behind the dunes in one of the BEST POSITIONS in Sawtell. This big comfy beach house offers a stainless steel kitchen with a gas cooktop, a 10 seater dining table, relaxing open-space living area downstairs with a ROMANTIC double Bali bed. . And a PIANO!
We are not 50 shades of grey marble, we are comfy and quirky. The Big House has 3 decks/balconies, and 2 bathrooms plus an outside hot shower for after-swims. Free wifi.

Upstairs: 2 romantic Q bedrooms with joint ensuite with shower and bath. The adjacent rumpus room with lounge, TV, has a king single bed, a single day-bed, another outside daybed on the top balcony, 2 decks and lots of room to spread out. The Double Bali bed downstairs in an enclave of the downstairsspace. So two enclosed queen bedrooms and 3 beds in open rooms.

YOUR OWN BEACH PATH at the bottom of the garden to gorgeous Sawtell beach with rock pools, headland and surf. A hot/cold outside shower when you get back.
Cafes, pubs and boutiques , and a MOVIE THEATRE all a short stroll in fabulous Sawtie main st.. Tennis, golf, lawn bowls, famous rock pool, surf club, and a much loved Movie Theatre reopened, all a short stroll away.
Luxurious Bali styled garden has our Buddha Bar hut, and yr path to Sawtell beach.
Sleeps 6 - 8 (extra guests above 6 = $20 p/n)
We are proud to say we have hosted well-known artists, actors, a famous conductor, a judge (with her pet cat) a poet laureate, a family with a pet Joey, and many many happy families with their grandparents and grand-babies.

Next door in the same beaut spot right on the beach, but private from the Big House, offering an intimate tropical hideaway experience. 1 Q bedroom downstairs, plus Bali day bed in living area. Mezzanine floor( loft) has 1 Q,+ 1 S (ladder access, great for the kids or the young at heart.,but not for old or infirm). One bathroom, with internal laundry. Gas cooktop, great air conditioning. Outdoor BBQ and seating areas, cool Gazebo. Sleeps up to 6.
Luxurious Bali styled garden backs onto beach dunes, and your own private path to Sawtell beach. An outdoor entertainment area for dining, bird and wildlife watching, or laZing in the tropical garden. Dogs must respect wildlife.

A short STROLL TO THE VILLAGE for almost everything you would need.

The big let down
Suffice to say that If you're used to third world surf camp standard accomodation you'd find in Indo then, this place fits the bill but with a very first world price tag. The big house is spacious enough for its upstairs 'rumpus' & downstairs 'living areas' to accomodate beds but they lack the privacy to be defined as 3rd & 4th bedrooms. Occupants of these 'shared' sleeping areas need to utilise the outside shower/toilet downstairs. The house has an organic 'earthy' aroma as it seamlessly combines outside/inside living, interacting with the surrounding jungle so well that it sometimes difficult to tell whether you're indoors or outdoors. The bathroom floor pools water which is only a problem if you're a little unsure under foot. The resident 'dune ants' appear harmless enough but do become a distinct irritant when they die inside the house especially on/around bedding. Watch your step and watch out for low lying branches as you make your way to the front door and if you're staying with more than four people, do bring your own coffee cups. The house's architectural style, decor and state of repair/disrepair is beyond my level of expertise to fairly comment on, though I did find it all rather intriguing. The biggest disappointment is that our experience is not an isolated case & has been cited in previous reviews - shame there appears to have been little/no improvement. The host however is extremely personable & I hope remains so after this review while location is tops

What a retreat
As soon as we walked in we could feel life’s problems drain away. The close proximity to the beach and slightly quirky furnishings make this house an excellent place to stay. Thanks Shellie.

We love Shellies
We have stayed several times in Shellie’s Big House and love it. Fantastic location amongst nature. A gorgeous quirky house and a thoughtful host who makes sure there are helpful supplies awaiting. Great spaces, indoor and out, to gather or escape and relax so works well for our family plus extras. Dog friendly. Private track to beach 100m away. We had friends staying in Little House so was a perfect arrangement for our group with option of interconnecting gate.

Hate to have to give this review but disappointing at the price point
Booked here a couple of weeks out as we had a chance to get away for 1 night mid week and pets were ok. The good: pet friendly and near the beach, host is quick with replies and made booking easy and is obviously an animal lover. The less good: needs some sort of window furnishings especially in bathrooms, cleaning was sub par (dust and dead bugs in bath and on some of the beds), linens were stained, musty smell upstairs so either needed windows open with mosquitos or air con and smell. Finally the price, for what we paid mid week outside holidays it was really disappointing

Quirky house in perfect location, just what we needed!
Shellie’s was a great spot for our family getaway! The house itself was a bit dated and lacking some privacy (just needs a few more curtains/blinds) but had everything we needed for a lovely weekend with our family and fur babies. The location is incredible and Shellie was very accomodating. Overall would recommend 😊

heavenly beach
Great place for a family, on the most beautiful beach. A couple of hiccups with the cooking appliances, but solved swiftly and generously by the owner. As a family we felt relaxed - nothing too sophisticated - perfect beach house.

Magical house on the Beach
Sitting right on a spectacular beach through a short forest track is Shellie’s - The Big House. From the beautiful eclectic objects & excellent book collection it’s clear this is no ordinary holiday house. The bedding and amenities are well worn and a bit dated so don’t expect luxury. And some blinds on the windows upstairs which houses the single beds to block the street light would be good. But it’s a gorgeous retreat where you could spend a while truly relaxing.

Long weekend
Very unclean in all areas of the house, strong urine smell upstairs, kitchens items all needed cleaning even the coffee machine. Bath not cleaned, so didn’t use. Can’t shut the bathroom door to the downstairs bathroom, which is outside. First time I have had to complain about the cleanliness of accomodation. No fly screens hence the need for the fly nets over the beds. So disappointing, even after contacting the owner about it there was no offer of refunding the cleaning cost.

Overall property is very well situated in beach locality. No issues getting to beach , many paths to take. Everyone enjoyed the queryness of the property. We still didn’t get to play the piano.Thankyou.

Fabulous!!
Amazing location so close to the beach and a really short walk to shops and restaurants. We were lucky enough to see whales off the beach while we were there as well as the local brush turkeys, wallabies and bird life.

Boho heaven
Gorgeous home in a perfect location. Beach out the back door, Main Street a 5 min walk. The house is quirky and fun and arty. Lots to look at and explore. Absolutely loved the decor. Beds are comfortable and it has a really relaxing vibe. :)

A fun place
A quirky place with a great relaxing outdoors You do not get much better beach spots than this one . Walk out the gate to a private path over the dunes to the beach , Sawtell village is also great with good restaurants and cafes etc We had bad weather , but still plenty to do exploring the towns north and south of Sawtell . Will stay again

Very Special Sawtell and Shellie’s
We prefer unique stays and this place didn’t disappoint. Green outlook from every window, gorgeous beach just out the back gate and over a dune. Lovely visual feast for the eyes throughout the home - so much to see. Loved the front paved water feature area and the coloured glass front door. Enjoyed reading about the home. Home had everything you need and more. Complimentary wine and chocolate, thank you! Sawtell Main Street is so pretty with so many food options and its own movie theatre. Sawtell and Shellie’s are both very special indeed.

Great for a family reunion
Shellie was a fantastic host for her two beautiful houses. We enjoyed our time there so much we wanted to stay longer! Lovely Bali-inspired gardens and features, and also so close to the beautiful beach. Well placed for walking into the village centre for great coffee and really good selection of restaurants. Delightfully comfy beds with lovely bed linen. Shellie and her husband were exceedingly kind and generous hosts. Great for a family reunion! Would love to come back again!

Fabulous beloved beach house
We arrived after a long drive and Shellie warmly greeted us. She walked us down to the beach and suggested places to have breakfast. This beach house is a wonderful experience. Everything is thoughtful and cosy. There are so many places in this house to enjoy. We have to come back for a longer visit to really get the most of this beautiful place. Thank you Shellie for the clean comfortable beds, plenty of great coffee, an inviting soa bath welcomed after the long trip and plenty of blankets, pillows, towels and charm. Kim
