About this property

Kentisbury Country House on Cradle Coast, lovely rural retreat

Kentisbury Country House-A 'Special Occasion' retreat, sitting tranquilly amidst the Tasmanian countryside. Ideally situated to explore the inspiring Cradle Mountain & Lake St. Clair National Park. Sheffield 'Town of Murals' with a thriving artistic community, is a pleasant 10 minute drive away with views of the awesome Mount Roland around every corner.
The luxurious house, tastefully decorated in the European style, is available for romantic getaways for one couple or a group of nine friends or family.

The house features three queen bedrooms, with three extra roll away beds. There are two living areas, one of which is a beautiful rotunda room. The dining area features a wonderful "long lunch" dining table, fantastic for larger groups or families, along with a well equipped country kitchen. The bathroom upstairs features a rolled edge antique bath tub, the downstairs bathroom includes laundry facilities.
The deck overlooks the beautiful Tasmanian countryside towards Lake Barrington and has a cast iron chiminea, great for winter barbecues.
In summer, our guests enjoy eating outdoors, either under the rose arbour or birch grove.
Further afield, the Kentish area abounds in natural beauty, from rugged Mount Roland to gentle green hills and the tapestry of farm crops and contented cows and sheep. Tasmania at its very best.

A quirky place.
It's hard to describe the style of this new(ish) build which actually looks quite old. Gothic, European? Who knows. It's quite different to anything we've stayed in before. Lovely outlook and very peaceful and surrounded by trees - isolated but not too far from Sheffield. Our first reaction was how dark it was inside but once the blinds were fully lifted things improved although still not as light as we normally like and we found the lounge area quite solidly furnished - no fripperies or anything feminine to be seen. But it was comfortable. Unfortunately it was too hot to use the rotunda which is more of a winter room.

Fab 5 Sister's reunion Kentish Countryside
Melissa was easy to communicate with, always getting back promptly with any questions I had prior to our arrival and it was lovely to meet her when we checked in. A wonderful setting in serene countryside. The french inspired touches throughout the property made it such a pleasure to relax and take in the view. We especially loved the outside dining table with view to Lake Barrington. Plenty of towels and amenities

Beautiful
A fantastic property to stay at. We felt like we were in a French country house. There were beautiful views from every window and the home itself was very comfortable and tastefully appointed. We enjoyed being in the local area for three days with plenty to keep us busy. Our host Melissa was lovely and we hope to visit again next time we are in Tasmania.

A lovely stay!
Upon arrival, Melissa arrived to provide a warm welcome and short tour of the home. The property is extremely clean... and we're clean freaks ourselves so that says alot. The bed is so comfortable! We got supplies in Sheffield and cooked at home both nights as the kitchen is really great and has everything you need to cook a meal. We had dinner outside on the alfresco while watching the beautiful views. House is big for just the two of us, but a family would also be very comfortable with lots of space in the home! Great stay... we'll be back again.

Loved Everything About This Place! Spectacular Views!
What a find this Kentish Country House was! We (3 adults and 1 teenagers) spent a glorious two nights here – but wished we could spend more. We booked the house based on its proximity to Cradle Mountain and the town of Sheffield. The location was a short drive to Cradle Mountain and offered the convenience of restaurants and shops in quaint town of Sheffield nearby. It’s obvious that Melissa has dedicated a lot of time in the layout and decor to make this house amazing. You will want for nothing when you stay at this delightful home. Comfortable, warm and well-appointed, the furnishings are luxurious with everything themed and very clean. You are spoilt for choice for rooms to relax in. The rotunda is stunning we enjoyed spending our early evening in this room. The kitchen has every amenity you could ask for, with Melissa offering to accommodate should something be missing. We loved the big long dining table and the church pew. The setting is in a beautiful scenic valley and the grounds of the house are surrounded by trees with that offer amazing Autumn colours. Can honestly say it was one of the nicest places we have experienced. Thank you Melissa.

Perfect holiday spot
What a gem! Outstanding, classy, accommodation in a magnificent location, in a lovely region of NW Tasmania. All of the local attractions are nearby, and this is like a second home to come back to at the end of each day. Couldn’t be better. Thanks Melissa

Just lovely
A stunning home, comfortable and everything you need. I would recommend taking your own food to cook up a storm in the lovely kitchen, or use the bbq. Beautiful dining spots inside and out. The town has very limited (and not always open) options.

Tuscany in Tasmania
What a lovely little spot! If you're looking for accommodation with a difference I would highly recommend this Tuscan villa tucked away in the glorious Tasmanian country side. Close to the magnificent Mt Roland and the town of Sheffield, Kentisbury cottage is a good base to explore this magnificent part of Tasmania. A special thanks to the owner, Melissa, for making a birthday cake for my Mum, she loved it!

Tuscany in Tasmania
We loved staying at this beautiful villa nestled conveniently between Deloraine and Cradle Mountain. We were met on our arrival by the lovely Melissa who showed us around the property and filled us in on how the heating etc. worked (it was already on and toasty when we arrived) which was very handy as the weather had turned chilly. The villa is beautifully appointed and it's construction was obviously a labour of love for Melissa. This is definitely a property that you could spent a week relaxing in, gorgeous interior, beautiful vistas overlooking rolling hills and the sound of cows in the far paddocks. What more could you want. We hiked in Cradle Mountain National Park one day which was an easy 30 minute drive from the villa. Nearby Deloraine is a great town for bricabrac shopping, coffee and cake. Thankyou for a lovely stay Melissa. It was a pleasure meeting you.

About the host

Originally from Bathurst NSW, moved to Tasmania 2005, love the cooler weather and beautiful surroundings.
Favourite things- children, grandchildren, gardening, cooking and travelling.

Why they chose this property

During a trip to Tassie in 1997 discovered this property by chance, fell in love with it, built the house in 2000 and used it as a family holiday house until 2005 when we decided to move here permanently.
We have been offering the house as a holiday rental since 2005 and I have had the pleasure of meeting people from all over the world.

What makes this property unique

I have a great love of European architecture. especially rustic farmhouses and Tasmania is the perfect climate to build in that style.
The walls are thick and rendered, keeping it cool in summer and warm in winter, the views are beautiful from every window. I wanted to create a family home where everyone gathers in the kitchen and sits together at the long lunch table to laugh and unwind. It seems to have been successful, our guests always want to take that table home! The rotunda is also a special space, over the top in red and gold, it makes a relaxing place for the adults.
