About this property

Beautiful Farmhouse located on a lake with breathtaking views of Acadia Park

An elegant and beloved Island landmark, this classic Maine farmhouse commands magnificent, permanently-protected views of Seal Cove Pond, Western Mountain and Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island’s “Quietside.” Built by James Studley Powers, a sea captain, circa 1887, the house is a magnificent example of Victorian architecture—spacious and light-filled, with high ceilings and wood floors, two carved fireplace mantels and many other original details. The Farm at Seal Cove Pond is an unusual combination of charm, refinement and comfort; formerly the working farm that produced the Seal Cove Farm goat cheese, it has today the feel of a tranquil estate.
The period timber frame barn borders fields of wildflowers and raised gardens. There is a shaded terrace for outdoor dining, which includes a grill, table with benches, and 7 adirondak chairs. Five acres of fields, lawn and woods contain lovely walking paths, blueberry and raspberry bushes, pear and apple trees, ornamental shrubs, and many varieties of hardy evergreens and hardwood trees.
The additional 6 acres on Seal Cove Pond is a birder’s paradise for viewing eagles, ospreys, great blue herons, owls, hawks, and red-winged black birds, among many other species. Directly across the Pond lies Acadia National Park with all it has to offer for natural beauty and recreation: the sunrise over Western Mountain, the call of loons, and boundless opportunities for hiking, kayaking, canoeing, paddle-boarding, swimming, fishing, and star gazing.
The sparkling waters of Blue Hill Bay are less than 5 minutes away, easily accessed by a public dock and boat-launch at Seal Cove. Southwest Harbor and Bass Harbor—15 minutes by car—offer a wide variety of shopping and restaurants, including Thurston’s Lobster Pound, in a quintessential Maine harbor setting.
Conveniently located but private and peaceful, The Farm at Seal Cove Pond is a property ideal for all ages and interests—a rare opportunity to treasure a piece of Maine’s heritage in a stunning farm setting.
Seal Cove Pond encompasses 283 acres, and is stocked with brown trout, small mouthed bass, and pickerel. The ponds eastern shore is Acadia National Park, and there is access from both the edge of the property, as well as from Acadia, via a park road.
The Bangor Daily News recently published an article on the Farmhouse Titled "Built by a sea captain, full of light".

A hidden gem on MDI!
This is our 4th year at Seal Cove farmhouse and it’s an amazing property on the quiet side of an incredible island! The location is stunning and the house and massive lawn are perfect for outdoor lounging, games and comfortably being together with family. Even if it rains! Marc the owner is wonderful to work with and we look forward to coming back next year!

Second trip to Seal Cove Farmhouse
We had another wonderful week at Seal Cove Farmhouse! The property is beautiful & our grandchildren enjoyed the toys, books & games available. The location is perfect for our family, since we love the “quiet side” of the island, especially Southwest Harbor, Seawall & Wonderland. Marc is a very responsive host & goes the extra mile to ensure a great experience for his guests. Thanks for another memorable family vacation!

Lovely old farmhouse with lots to do close by
We loved our stay at the Seal Cove Farmhouse. Plenty of room for our family to gather but also have their own space. We did a lot of cooking, and the kitchen had everything we needed. We especially appreciated being able to access the trails nearby or go swimming at area swim spots without having to go the busy east side of the island.

The BEST family vacation
Location couldn't be better. This farmhouse is perfectly located for family members who have diverse interests....close to easy and more strenuous trails, biking, kayaking, shopping, eating. We enjoyed grilling, playing badminton, blowing bubbles, and walking around the gorgeous property. The rooms/bathrooms were just what we needed to accommodate a baby and a 14 year old, 2 older adults and 4 younger adults. The kitchen had everything we needed to make home-cooked meals and the living spaces allowed us to be together without being on top of one another. Marc was a joy to work with.

Such a beautiful, peaceful home and property! So much charm and character!
We had a wonderful early October family vacation in the farmhouse - me and my husband, our toddler and infant, and both sets of our parents, with plenty of space for all of us. Truly, the pictures can't do this home and the property full justice! We felt so at peace from the moment we arrived - the late afternoon sunlight through the house in particular is just pure magic. The house is spacious and warm and welcoming, and we could really feel the rich sense of history. And the property! We loved the views, and taking walks around the garden and various paths. We were happy to not be closer to town and the hustle and bustle, though it was still a reasonable drive to anywhere we wanted to go on the island. This place is a treasure, and we'd most definitely stay here again!

A Magical Stay
I've booked a lot of VRBO stays throughout the years and this Tremont, Maine farmhouse was one of the best! We loved the "Quiet Side" of MDI, but all the hiking, canoeing and shopping was within easy driving distance. The farmhouse is beautifully decorated and full of all the amenities. Marc was helpful and we appreciated him letting us have a garden bridal shower for my niece since all the family was gathered in Maine for the 4th of July holiday. I would highly recommend this "magical" place. P.S. I gave 4 stars for the check-in because we had a little difficulty with the key lock box, but after several tries, it worked. But that was only a minor problem that did not affect out stay.

3rd time and still love it
Nothing better than the quite overlooking Seals Cove Pond. The home has room for everyone and enough space outdoors to get lost to yourself. The only down side is that being so far out from most of the activities means a considerable amount of driving but what one must do to have some peace and quite.

Great Time on the Quiet Side
What a great home for our family to spend a relaxing and quiet week on the Quiet Side of the island. The spacious and well equipped farmhouse was more than we anticipated and enjoyed the history of the property. We spent time kayaking and hiking with our grandchildren and made wonderful memories.!! Great location for our family!! The home is equipped for a range of ages and plenty of room to spread out. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Spacious authentic farmhouse on beautiful pond
For a family from the city, it was such a treat to stay in this beautifully decorated, 140 year old comfortable and spacious farmhouse. Served as a great home base for exploring Acadia, but often didn’t want to leave the home/grounds. We enjoyed the pond across the street, both by canoe and listening to the loons from the home. Marc was great to work with. Overall, a great experience!

2021 Autumn Visit to Mt. Desert Island, Maine
My family and I give a 5-Star Rating to the Seal Cove Farmhouse, located in Tremont, Maine. We spent 10 days there in September and just returned from our Mt. Desert Island, Maine Vacation a week ago. From the first moment that we drove up to the Seal Cove Farmhouse owned by Marc and his family, we were very impressed with this historic property. The late1800's restored Seal Cove Farmhouse's exterior is beautiful, and it's interior is, also, very lovely. We felt completely at home as soon as we entered the Farmhouse and began exploring its many rooms attractively decorated in a appealing nautical theme. My three family members and I each enjoyed having the privacy of our own 2nd floor bedrooms. Each bedroom sported a pleasant view of the pretty grounds surrounding the Farmhouse. The three full baths on the 2nd floor afforded us great convenience whether we were getting ready to begin our tours for the day or were getting ready to retire for the night. Downstairs we took advantage of the well-organized kitchen outfitted with all the china, glassware, cutlery, cooking utensils, pots and pans necessary to enable us to prepare our breakfasts and all other meals we decided to make at the Farmhouse. We looked forward to coming back to the Farmhouse every evening after our day trips exploring Acadia National Park and MDI knowing that we could relax and recharge in the comfortable sofas in the living room, catch up on emails with our laptops at the big eating table, or watch a movie or favoriite TV show on the big screen TV in the TV room next to the kitchen. We quickly felt the big Farmhouse was our "home away from home" and the headquarters where we planned each day's activities. It's location on the Quiet Side of MDI, several miles away from the busy tourist center of Bar Harbor, gave us the tranquility we relished after an active day of sightseeing around MDI. The Farmhouse's peaceful, homey atmosphere contributed to a renewal of energy for the following day's adventures. We would highly recommend staying at the Seal Cove Farmhouse to any visitors to MDI who are seeking a delightful refuge from which to launch their tours of the Island and to which they can return to unwind in a cozy, comfortable, and very charming abode.

Love the Farmhouse!!
This was our second time at the Farmhouse and it did not disappoint. The quiet side is the place to be and the property and home are so lovely. We have four kids between the ages of 12 and 17 and they all love the feel and coziness of the home. Location is great as you are away from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor but still within an easy drive. Marc is so welcoming and helpful and always goes above and beyond!

Perfect accommodations for us!
My family of 4 along with another family of 4 found this house to be the perfect place for our stay. We were there July 17- 24, 2021. Acadia was PACKED! Being out of the madness was wonderful. Our young adult children made great use of the property. We brought many outdoor games to just be outside having fun! The house was well stocked! It was very comfortable and I am going to try to find the soft sheets they used on their beds! Our week was a perfect combination of family time, hiking, and sight seeing. Maine is beautiful!

Felt like we were in a 20th century movie or novel
It was the perfect place for our family as we explored all parts of Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, Maine. The house and property were beautiful and ample to accommodate all 8 of us. We all had our own "space" yet there was plenty of room for us to be together. It was central to the areas we wanted to explore.

Multi-generational Family Trip
Our family (including grandparents, adult children & young grandchildren) had a wonderful stay at Seal Cove Farmhouse in June 2021. The home is beautiful & family-friendly, with lots of extra amenities. We especially enjoyed the amount of space, with the 4 bedrooms & 3 full & 1 half baths. The grounds were spectacular & while it is hard to choose, we would say that our family campfire is our fondest memory of this trip. Marc’s communication with us was great & he was very responsive to us. He also sent several emails with recommendations for activities in the park & on the island. We would highly recommend this property & look forward to returning to the farmhouse in the future!

Fabulous farmhouse with lots of room for everyone!
This is the perfect place to stay on Island for a group of people who enjoy the quiet side and appreciate a beautiful Farmhouse with amazing property! Although it is a drive to Bar Harbor and many of the other park attractions, we absolutely loved staying here and ended up doing lots of things on this side of the island that you won’t regret! We took a sunset cruise with Sail Acadia with Karl, hiked Beech Mountain (great views and the fire tower is cool), Ship Harbor Trail (walk not a hike) and Perpendicular (hope you like stairs!), ate our fill of lobster at Thurston and Beals, enjoyed breakfast at Common Good, and explored the Bass Harbor Lighthouse. Marc is a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend this house!

About the host

Host profile image
We purchased this house with the intention of owning the ultimate vacation home. I was looking for a property that was bordering Acadia National Park, was on a body of water, and had room for a large family.
My career as a Physician does not allow for significant time off, but when I do take a vacation, I want to be in a beautiful location that is tranquil and visually stimulating. We have been vacationing near Acadia for many years, and this property embodies all of the qualities my family enjoy. Close proximity to Acadia, lakefront property for boating, close proximity to a deep water harbor (Seal Cove Harbor is approximately 1/2 mile away), easy drive to Bar Harbor (about 12 miles), Southwest Harbor (about 5 miles) make this a perfect property for us.

Why they chose this property

Seal Cove Farmhouse has all of the qualities that I love. It is a beautiful house built by a sea captain in 1887. The architectural details are impressive. The house has floor to ceiling windows which afford spectacular views of Acadia National Park. There is a panoramic view of Acadia from most points on the property, as well as views of Western Mountain.
There are 4 bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths, formal dining room, den, full kitchen, informal dining area, mud room with washer/dryer, offices on third floor, and a covered porch.
The property is 11.6 acres with grass, woods, gardens and fruit trees.
There is access to Seal Cove Pond from the property. There are magnificent views of the pond from most rooms in the house. Seal Cove Pond is approximately 0.5 miles x 2 miles long, and is a bird watchers paradise. We regularly see bald eagles, falcons and hawks, as well as a host of other bird species. Canoes, kayaks and small watercraft are allowed on the lake, most of which borders Acadia National Park.

What makes this property unique

The views of Acadia National Park are one of the greatest features of the property.
We love the views of the pond, and the ability to launch watercraft from the property.
This is a secluded location that is convenient for Park access, as well as access to Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor.
