Short trip to Tumut
Platypus cottage was a lovely, peaceful place to stay. We were catching up with friends and we had plenty of space and a well equipped kitchen to do our own cooking.

The cottage was perfect for our trip. The aspect being near the river was ideal and it was well equipped for our stay. Brett was very helpful and gave useful advice regarding best places to visit. We will certainly stay again.

We will be back again
Loved our stay. My husband and teen/adult children all loved this place and would definitely go back again. The kids fished twice a day (although didn’t catch anything 😉) and we enjoyed having so much space! We visited the brewery, the broom factory and enjoyed some thrift shopping in town. We had a big cook up for breakfast one morning and sat and ate in the garden whilst watching the cows and listening to all the birds. Great family get away. Thanks Brett.

Just had two lovely nights in the Platypus Cottage. Something different to stay on a working farm and we particularly enjoyed an open fire right on the bank of the Tumut river.

Couldn't Pay Us to Stay There Again
Never have I experienced such appalling behaviour from a "host". We booked here because it allowed dogs (ours is old, blind & immobile). We arrived & began unpacking. Brett followed & immediately began to scold us for bringing our dog (who was still in the truck at the time). While he acknowledged that he used to allow dogs, Stayz mustn't have updated his info (which he recently changed to "no pets"). We have a 3 year old daughter & weren't about to turn around. He didn't apologise or try to maintain any sort of professionalism, rather he made it clear that we should be so lucky to put our 12 year pup on his patio... and then charge us full price for it! Out of options, we reluctantly agreed. He then proceeded to subtly dig anywhere he could "this is why I hate 3rd party sites.." as if we should feel bad about booking through one. It didn't stop there. The condescending tone droned on into how to manage our daughter, his upset that we wanted 2 local friends over for dinner, quips about city people & endless passive-aggressive digs. We agreed to all his terms, hoping he'd leave so we could settle in. It gets worse. In an attempt to "bust us" he came by to "check water" while we were out. Using an open door as an excuse (we did not leave a door open), he snooped around our stuff and accused us of bringing our dog inside because the blanket was at the back door (we'd moved it slightly inside so it didn't blow away while we were out). Then he text us to say that a snake had come inside and we should be careful. When we asked what kind of snake it was because, you know, we have a 3 year old, he admitted that there was no snake but we should learn to keep the door closed. Again, we did not leave the screen open - Brett wanted an excuse to snoop. Talk about embarrassing behaviour for a grown man. It gets worse still. Brett has 1990's blinds. When we closed them one evening, one of the vertical slats fell down. No big deal, we thought. We went to clip it back in only to notice that there was a wad of super glue hanging from it. Someone had clearly tried to repair it before. In his typical belittling fashion, he blamed us. When we vehemently denied any involvement (we were starting to get fed up), he said he was going to call the past guests about it! It's called "wear & tear". That could have been a decade old! Summary? I spent three days looking out the window waiting to see Brett to tell him my thoughts. Here you go, Brett. Adios.

Farm stay at its best!
We had a wonderful time at the Platypus cottage amidst the cattle and horses. The property is conveniently located close to the town centre (approx 10 mins drive) and about 1.5 hours from Selwyn snowfields. The property has all things needed. Toileteries need to be brought but basic kitchen items are available. Airconditioniong is only available in the living area but the beds have electric heated blankets. There is no wifi in the property but good network coverage. We got to feed the horses and the view from the cottage is good. Thank you Brett for making our stay memorable.

We couldn't have wished for anything more. Great location.
Sleeping to the sound of the river and waking to the birds in a very comfortable bed was simply heaven. Everything we needed was supplied and was of a good quality with plenty of thought put into it. Highly recommended. Brett was a great host.

A Very Pleasant Stay
I stayed in Platypus Cottage with two friends. The setting by the Tumut River was delightful, and we really enjoyed the peacefulness, the proximity to the River and the wildlife. The cottage was immaculate, pleasantly furnished and Brett was an excellent host, helpful and friendly and his pride in the history of the property was very infectious. Reg (the dog) was an added bonus. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Ribbonwood Cottages to other friends and hope to make other visits there in future.

Best-kept secret in Tumut
We had a great weekend stay at Platypus Cottage - a friendly, clean and well-maintained, relaxing and peaceful place. Our host, Brett, made sure we have everything we need during our stay. He also gave some handy tips and suggestions about the places to visit, cafes and restaurants to try in town. Overall, a wonderful experience and a welcoming feel-at-home cottage. Highly recommended.

Amazing getaway - Super hospitable
Brett (our host) was friendly by greeting us and offering advice and ideas about the area. We stayed in 2 identical cottages, each setup with linen and heating when we arrived. The scenery and animals on the farm were a great change from the city. Brett offered to light the fire for us when we wished and we managed to spend a night at the fire, by the river, toasting marshmallows - YUM! Would definitely stay again. Grant

Great Stay..we will be back!
We spent four nights at Platypus Cottage and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The seperate main bedroom and ensuite was perfect for us as it gave my Mum a bit of private space while we had the two other rooms and bathroom at the other side of the house. It was without a doubt the cleanest property we have visited and very well appointed. Brett was fantastic and so helpful, went above and beyond for us and took the time to ring one evening to advise us to change our snow plans so we had better weather. We would 100% recommend and look forward to visiting again in fishing season. Thanks again Brett.

Something for everyone!
We had a terrific 5 nights at Platypus Cottage. With 2 Adults and 2 Children (7 & 9) and Angus the dog there was something for everyone. The keen skiers (Dad & No 2 son) took off each day for the pleasant hour or so drive up to Mt Selwyn while Mum, Angus and No 2 son explored the farm, surrounds and did a bit of bush walking and cave exploring. We were fortunate enough to pick a time when Brett & Lucy's kids were on school holidays too, so managed to wrangle a babysitter for a night out without the kids. Tumut is a quaint town and Platypus Cottage is less than 5 minutes drive out of town but you feel quite isolated. We left booking our trip to the snow very late and chose Platypus Cottage as something of a compromise but wouldn't hesitate to book it again in preference to something closer to the snowfields. The kids really enjoyed feeding the horses, having dinner around a campfire, and the cottage and surrounds were big enough that we could all get a bit of space from each other rather than feel cooped up in a little bungalow.

Platypus Cottage was perfect for our week long getaway in Tumut. It is well set up, spacious and comfortable and in a beautiful setting on the Tumut River. We loved having the cattle wandering through the adjacent paddocks (it is a working farm) and we loved sitting out on the huge deck watching the spectacular sunsets and the storm roll over.Brett, our host, was friendly and helpful without being intrusive.
