The original Victorian farmhouse was built in 1910 and is completely updated.
The master with views of the garden and woods offers great birding from bed!
A bath with a view, a glass of wine, a quiet moment......heaven.
The ground floor bedroom is charming and looks out over Reed Creek and deck.
This upstairs bedroom is open and airy, and will charm any lady of any age.

About this property

Charming, secluded turn of the century home ideal for a relaxing family retreat

Conveniently located near the crossroads of I-77 and I-81, The Glade is a charming and secluded fully updated turn of the century Victorian farmhouse, located on 62 private park like acres, ideal for a relaxing retreat, or a romantic escape. There are two rental options available, the main house with 4 b.r. and 2.5 baths sleeps 8, and the cottage with a full bath sleeps 2, both have decks with gas grills overlooking spring fed Reed Creek and can be rented separately or together. RATES SHOWN ABOVE ARE FOR THE MAIN HOUSE ONLY, reduced cottage rates apply when both are rented together, cottage will not be rented seperately when farmhouse is rented. Located only 5 miles from interstate and town, with shopping, dining, and all essentials including medical care close by. Close as The Glade is to town, once you cross over our 135' bridge you have escaped the outside world and will immediately feel your pulse slow. Both the cottage and the farmhouse have high-speed wireless internet.

FROM NOVEMBER 15TH THROUGH MARCH THE POSSIBILITY OF SNOW AND ICE EXISTS IN OUR AREA. THE DRIVE FROM GLADE ROAD TO OUR BRIDGE HAS A STEEP GRADE AND COULD BE DIFFICULT IN A 2 WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE IF THAT SECTION OF ROAD IS ICED OVER.

Getting There: Located 71 miles from Roanoke Virginia's airport, 75 miles from Bristol Tennessee's airport, and only 120 miles from Charlotte North Carolina's airport The Glade is within reach.

From Wytheville exit 70 on Interstate 81, continue right on Highway 52 N / Stoney Fork Road for 2.7 miles to State Road 664 / Glade Road on the left, continue 2.3 miles on Glade Road to the address and sign on the left. Follow the road along the cliff side continuing past brick house on the right to the bridge on the left. Cross the bridge and continue to the right +- 400' to the parking area, which is adequate for 4 vehicles. The private 135 foot bridge is the only access to The Glade as Reed Creek meanders for 1 mile around the property and the steep ridge in the back renders it virtually inaccessible otherwise. You will notice having crossed the bridge you are now on a peninsula created by Reed Creek which makes a hard right turn just past the bridge as it continues it's flow downstream to The New River.

The Accommodations : The 1910 restored and updated Victorian Farmhouse and cottage are located on a 7 acre peninsula. It features a large porch on two sides with rockers facing the gardens and the 4 acre manicured lawn on the bottom land where the vegetable, herb garden, and berry patch are located. The grassy lawn is suitable for a variety of sports activities from frisbee golf, and croquet, to touch football. On the creek side of the Farmhouse is a multi level deck with built in benches, a gas grill, with a beautiful long view of Reed Creek all conveniently located off the kitchen an arrangement ideally suited for enjoyable outdoor meals. The cottage which we call the 'Sugar Shack' is located next to the Farmhouse with a queen bed, full bath, it's own private deck, propane grill, mini fridge, and is ideal for a couple. With 4 bedrooms and 2 1/2 bedrooms in the Farmhouse, and a bedroom and full bath in the Cottage. There are 4 queens and 1 king sized beds providing comfortable accommodations for 10.

The Property: 'The charm of the property is impossible to describe, but anyone who visits feels it's enchantment. The charm lies neither in its architecture, though it has a certain rural 'kindness', nor in it's formal plan but in the site itself, the variety of spaces and experiences and the way people from one family have made themselves at home here for five generations.'

The Glade's sixty two park like acres are varied in terrain, with steep creek side ridges, open meadows, heavily wooded forrest trails, and pastoral grassy paths alongside a wide spring fed creek. Your visit may be relaxing, active, romantic, or a family reunion with multiple generations getting together. You can be assured with absolute certainty your time at The Glade will be a very special memory for all.

Peaceful Getaway
This was a beautiful property, inside and out. There was enough room around the house for everything to not feel cramped. We also rented the cabin and was a great additional for our group. The acreage was well manicured, and we found many hiking spots and fishing holes to explore. Our dogs love it and had a great time as well exploring the everything. Also had a great time just sitting and talking on the porch. Thinking about when we can book again and see another season at this beautiful and peaceful property!

Cousins Retreat
Beautiful, serene surroundings. Home is well equipped. My family enjoyed watching the deer pass through the property in the evening and the calming sound of the creek waters. This is the 2nd time I have rented this home and will not be the last. House was very clean, beautiful landscaping, and plenty of room for multiply families.

Relaxation achieved
Although center of town was 10 minutes away, the location and scenery gave us a feeling of being secluded from the world. Beautiful, quiet location and house had plenty of private and family space. Spent evenings on the deck, enjoying the cool breezes and sound of the running water in the creek. We will be back.

Hidden Gem
Our family was in town for a reunion and needed a place we all could fit. We didn’t get to spend a lot of time on the property because of our reunion but all of us agreed we would love to come back and explore more of the beautiful property! We also enjoyed reading about the history of the house. It was very clean and comfortable as well! Thank you so much for sharing your home with us!

Beautiful setting!
My family and I enjoyed a week of the beautiful SW Virginia countryside! The town of Wytheville was so charming. Great food and shopping. We also spent time with friends and relatives. With our two adult children, their spouses, and our little granddaughter, this house was perfect! It was private, comfortable, and scenic.

Amazing House and Property
The historic house was well maintained, comfortable, and interesting. The property was a natural wonder with the creek, well maintained fields, walking areas, and bridge. We saw deer daily playing in the fields, at the creek, and just passing through; box turtles; and even a hawk in the field pecking at something on the ground. We also saw ground hogs and cows at the neighbor’s. The caretaker and neighbors were friendly and helpful. Great visit!

Perfect Country Getaway
The house is very roomy and clean. Definitely a 1910 style home but with modern touches. The property is beautiful and very well maintained. The flowing creek was a big plus as we watched the geese, ducks, beavers and other wildlife. The hosts were very responsive and made us feel welcome.

Awesome secluded setting. Great fishing and a lot of trails for hiking. Beautiful views of the creek, nice to finish the evening by the fire pit and listen to the water ripple by while the Labrador takes an evening swim. Well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, grounds are very well maintained. Chrissy the caretaker was very responsive and helpful. Our family would definitely stay here again.

We had a very relaxing and fun time. We had six adults, ranging in age from 25 to 81. There was plenty of room. We used the kitchen and grill every day. The creek was beautiful and very clear. Town was not too far away either. Would highly recommend staying here.

Great secluded spot!
This was a great place to stay for our extended family weekend vacation. The house is well kept/clean and the amenities were as expected. The property was awesome! It’s secluded, but only 15 min. from town, with outdoor dining options, fire pit, trails, stream access, and large lawn flat area’s perfect for outdoor games. The kids (10-13) had a blast…and so did all the adults! Definitely recommend.

Lovely country home and grounds!
We loved the setting for this beautiful country home! With four bedrooms and lots of space, it was perfect for the six adults who stayed there. Starting the day on the porch or deck with a cup of coffee and our binoculars was ideal! There was lots of wildlife and wild flora to enjoy, along with the sound of the nearby creek that brought such a peaceful atmosphere. We would return and we would highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys the country and the life that goes with it. It's also conveniently close to restaurants, stores, and I-81. We really enjoyed our stay!

Gorgeous and Peaceful Property
The property is even better than it appears in the listing. The house itself is so spacious and well furnished and the giant bathroom with the claw foot tub is a dream come true! We really enjoyed the multi-level deck that leads to the flat & shady creekside lawn, perfect for our hammocks and some lawn games. We enjoyed wading in the stream looking for crawdads and hiking the trails on the property. The abundance of wildflowers and the complete peace and quiet just added to this charming place. Can’t wait to return in winter so we can use those fireplaces!

Pictures do not capture the beauty of the property
Our group was large - six adults and two 3-year olds - and this was the first rental property where we felt like we all had space. The house is charming, clean, beautifully restored with lovely landscaping. The views from the porches are fantastic. Although we went on daytrips, we would have been content to spend the whole week at The Glade. The owner and the onsite property manager are easy to deal with and very nice. We would love to stay there again.

The perfect social distanced get away
From the moment we walked past the fragrant mint bed into the house we knew we had chosen the perfect place for our family vacation. We were right! From the fire fly filled meadows to the splashing creek and decks it was ideal for the cousins to play (5 yo to 13 yo) and the adults to join in the fun or take a rest while watching. The caretaker was lovely and so helpful. Tens all around!

Peaceful and quiet riverside retreat
If you are looking for peace and quiet, rest and relaxation, you have found the right place. This old victorian style farmhouse is full of charm and space for the whole family. The property is both private and extensive with trails that are mowed and maintained for guests. The river is idyllic and very visible from so many windows in the house. Enjoy watching the deer walk by the river in the morning. The fully furnished kitchen had all the convenience of cooking in your own kitchen. Thank you to the owner for all the attention to detail evident in both this lovely old home and the well-maintained grounds.

Tranquil Hideaway
The grounds were amazing. It was a park like setting. Beautiful landscaping with creek running behind the house. The house had been beautifully restored but still had its original charm, hardwood floors, and detailed moldings and trim. The beds were comfortable and all the bedrooms were unique and had furnishings in addition to just the bed. Dining room had large table to accommodate our large family. Plenty of dishes and cookware for making meals. My sisters and brother and spouses gather every year at some location for our Siblings Retreat to catch up with each other, tour the local community, and play board games. The house and grounds were ideal. Enjoyed our stay!

Best place for families with kids
We had the best family reunion. The kids loved loved kayaking in the creek, catching fish and crawfish. They loved exploring the trails, sleeping out in tent. And Grandma and Grandpa loved the little cottage to get away when needed for a rest. The house was well equipped with anything you could possibly need. The large outdoor porch with large table was great Large dining room table great. Everything so nice and clean. Chrissie was warm and welcoming and answered all our questions. We had a wonderful time. Way above and beyond our hopes and dreams for family reunion with little ones.
