Inthelonggrass cottage provides clean, affordable family and small group accommodation in a beautiful bush setting.
The views are outstanding, the birdlife abundant and the air as pure as you will find in the Otways.
If you are looking for a base to explore the area our cottage is ideal.
We are situated just 30 minutes from Lorne, 40 minutes from Apollo Bay
and a short drive to numerous other destinations including Lake Elizabeth,
The Otway Fly and Erskine Falls.
Having lived and worked here for over 30 years we can help you plan whatever sort of holiday you are looking for.

For those of you who enjoy mountain bike riding we are just a few minutes ride from the Yaugher trail head mountain bike tracks. The extensive network of tracks are some of the best in Australia and we have free maps available detailing the rides from beginners to advanced.

The Otways national park is also close by to enjoy strolls in bush full of wildlife.

We offer you comfort, space, great local knowledge, peace and quiet and flexibility from as low as $160 per night.

We are an easy 2 hour drive from Melbourne and the Geelong bypass makes the trip a breeze!

The cottage sleeps up to 6 people with plenty of outdoor living space to enjoy the magnificent views. We also
welcome pets and the yard is fully fenced.

Our cottage is equipped with 4 single and 1 queen bed, heating and cooling, BBQ and DVD player. All linen is supplied and pets are welcome.

Lovely weekend getaway
Lovely getaway from the big smoke. Great views of the surrounding farms and a well fenced yard, that the dog adored. Cabin was well fitted for our choice of simple home cooked meals while away. Highly recommend Stevenson's Falls, the reservoir and surround small village centres.

Location was fantastic for Otways walks etc. Relaxing to sit on verandah, with coffee or wine! Plenty of room for the dog. Surprise visit from an echidna, and plenty of birds.

Relaxing Sanctuary
We had a relaxing few days to recharge amongst nature. We especially enjoyed the morning coffees out on the patio greeted by the cows. The cottage was clean, simple and everything we needed to enjoy a few days exploring the otways.

Quiet forest retreat
The cottage is located on a farm between Barwon downs and Forrest. A short drive to Forrest general store for a daily coffee highly recommended. Day trips to Lorne and Apollo bay are also recommended if you are comfortable with the windy roads in the area. Erskine falls is also not far and worth a look, overall a very scenic and relaxing trip.

A nice place for a couple of nights
It was enjoyable. We liked the peace and the location. The owners are excellent communicators and we appreciated their concern when our dog escaped their fenced yard. I’m sure they will resolve the fencing security for future pet owners!

I am a long time Otway resident and enjoy sharing my beautiful property with others.

Why they chose this property

The cottage name is drawn from my experience with an elderly indigenous man in the 80’s. I met him when I was a social worker in Darwin Centrelink. He was being denied the pension as he led a traditional nomadic lifestyle and therefore had no fixed address. When I asked him where he likes to be he said “in the longgrass...a place in the bush I love to be” . I duly recorded his address as Inthelonggrass and he went off with the income security he deserved. We returned to Victoria and bought our own place in the bush. I don’t think he will mind me honouring him by using his words to name our own place....inthelonggrass...in the bush where we love to be.

If you want a place to relax, reflect, read or just stare into space, the cottage is for you. With no other guests on the property, the cottage space is entirely yours to enjoy. Set well off the road, the bird life is abundant. Wake to kookaburras and magpies to welcome the day and watch the world go by.
