Son Graduated from MTU. We were able to stay here and participate in all of the activities we chose. Liked being remote and being able to overlook the Portage river
The property was was as advertised and we had a great time. The house is secluded on a quiet street so it was great for our dogs. The property owner was very responsive to a couple communications we sent him. We are renting it again in February for a few days.

Convenient location, quiet area, and nice view.
We stayed at the property while dropping off our freshman at MTU orientation. We really enjoyed the split level house layout, we could put the boys downstairs and have the upstairs bedroom(s) and bath to ourselves. Nice large kitchen, and family/living room. Enjoyed being able to catch some of the olympic coverage on the Big TV, good wifi too.. Location is quiet, and short drive 2 mile drive back to downtown & shopping. Great family stay location.

Great place for family and friends!
This house was fantastic! We had my son's wedding and I wanted our family to be able to stay together in one house. This house made it possible. We had enough room with the 5 bedrooms and 2 baths. The living room provided lots of space and I was able to make us all breakfast every morning. The house is secluded and has an amazing view of the Portage. We even got to sit out on the deck. We would stay again!
The trip was sad because it was for my brothers funeral but it was so nice to be able to stay together with my remaining brothers and sisters in the same house. We haven’t stayed in the same house for over 50 years. The house was not as modern as the houses we live in but reminded us of our grandparents houses in the houghton area where we spent our vacation every year when kids.
It was our second time renting this property. We love the location and it has enough room for our dogs to run around outside. The street doesn’t get much traffic. If you rent this place in the winter you should have a four wheel drive vehicle. Overall it’s was perfect for us and I would rent it again.

Peaceful and Perfect, Easy Access to Town
We were pleasantly surprised at this space. It is perfectly nestled in nature on a quiet road that was not highly traveled. There's a lovely sunrise view of the canal and town is just a quick trip down the hill.
This space was well kept (although the fridge wasn't too clean). We loved the yard and thimble berry patch (mom picked them daily). We would have loved deck chairs and a fire pit, but do understand why there weren't any. It appears from the visitors log that most staying here are Winter visitors. ;-)
Nonetheless... this was WAY better than a 5 day stay in a hotel with toddlers!!!
Thank you for sharing your space! We'd visit again!
This property served the purpose of providing a place to sleep. Heating was tricky and a radiator dripped into a pan that we had to dump periodically. One bed broke as someone sat down to remove their shoes. The owner came the next day to do a temporary fix. Fortunately there was an extra bed. Mysteriously, there was dog poop in the house after the owner fixed the bed. The kitchen had very little for cooking products and utensils. One chair in the living room was broken. Bathroom towels in second bathroom were raggedy. Snow was plowed nicely but no salt on the cement steps up to the house. We will not be returning.
Overall our stay was lovely. We came to Houghton for the graduation at MTU. There were some issues with the property that we all felt needed to be addressed before the next renters used the property. The main issue was the upstairs toilet was not able to flush as the tank did not fill up. (Or filled up very slowly.) There was no dishwashing tabs so we had to hand wash all the dishes and when we filled up the dishwasher on the last day, the door of the dishwasher did not shut correctly. The handle on the microwave was broken on the bottom. Two of the faux leather chairs in the living room were partially broken and you felt unsafe sitting in them. The shower in the upstairs bathroom could be cleaned - as there were black spots between the tiles in the grout. Also the upstairs bathroom sink should be replaced - looks a bit worn and used. We mentioned most of these to the owner and hopefully he will read this review and correct the additional items in these comments. We did leave a day early due to the toilet issue as it was difficult for some of our party to go downstairs to use the bathroom. So the positive was that we could all be together in the same house and we had a mini-family reunion.
On the road working. Nice to stay at a house instead of a hotel.
We had a nice relaxing atmosphere after working all day. Cooked some good meals.
Easy to rent at an reasonable rate. Thanks for everything.

Liked: Check-in, communication, location
Disliked: Listing accuracy
Couple of things…
Could not find smoke detectors. Probably not a huge deal, but a little odd. Outlets in kitchen didn’t work, had to set up toaster and coffee machine near the bar. Also, be forewarned-dogs not allowed on furniture. My Boston isn’t allowed on furniture so not a big deal for me but the property description does not mention a punitive additional fine of $100 in pets get on furniture. The house is warm, shower on main floor works great - lots of pressure and nice hot water. Location was fantastic for exploring Houghton/Hancock, Keewenaw Peninsula and Porcupine Mountains! Laundry room is great, lots of gear storage opportunities. Direct TV was very limited, ran to Walmart for HDMI cable to stream from computer and could only figure out how to get hdmi port 2 to work which involved having to switch out house cable with mine when we watched Direct TV. Also, the refrigerator door was a pain in the next to close. Spot is peaceful and house is plenty roomy. Pet peeve at many VRBO’s - terrible lighting with no bedside tables in master.
We had 4 couples, came to the area to ride our side by sides. Location is great. House has 5 good size bedrooms and plenty of parking. The house could use a deep cleaning and some kitchen updates. Overall for the price, we had a good weekend.
This is our second time renting this home. The location is scenic and peaceful. You sit a top a huge hill overlooking the canal there are a few neighbors but not in sight -its a quiet private setting. You are only 3 miles to Houghton/ Hancock or a short scenic drive to anywhere you would like to go in the peninsula. The house feels comfortable stays warm and cozy in the winter has five good sized bedrooms, kitchen and bar with seating.-plenty of room for a larger group or small group and your furry family members which is a must for us. There is an entrance to the downstairs where there are hooks and hangers for your snow gear as well.
I would like to note in October when we rented the house, like others have said, was not very clean but we really liked the home and location and thought maybe the renter before us was just a rough group. I’m glad we rented again the home was very clean and had a home away from home feeling as soon as we walked in. The cleaning crew did a good job this trip. We felt comfortable and safe here. It is an older home with some updates and some older parts to it as well. I have read some poor reviews and the showers could use some new grout or a professional cleaning but the shower upstairs is clean and the water stays hot it just needs a facelift. I can’t speak for the one downstairs we never used it but it was more spacious than the upstairs shower. The other features of the home overshadow those minor complaints.
There is plenty of room for parking with a wide half circle drive with two entrances to the road the driveway was plowed and maintained during our stay. The owner is very responsive in answering any questions.
Would like to note that if you are hauling a big trailer for snowmobiling the road is steep and winding up to the house if you happen to arrive during a big snow (which happens often) give yourself a head start and don’t stop 😬. The road is plowed but not every day. We were able to haul our 25 ft trailer up there with a lot of determination and perseverance through about 6 or 8 inches of new snow. The trails were a short drive down the road. so you can leave the trailer there and head out from the house. We enjoyed our stay and would rent again.
Just outside of town for quiet, close enough to town for adventures. The beds were comfy, the house was warm and cozy. What more could you ask for?
Perfect place for alumni to visit for hockey games and weekend fun.
