About this property

Glauders Cottage Pemberton

Glauder's Cottage, just 10 minutes from Pemberton, is the original settlers cottage built by the Glauder Family in the early 1900's. The farm is unique in the Pemberton district as it is totally surrounded on all sides by Karri forest with two trout filled rivers running through it.

Losing none of it's colonial charm, the cottage now boasts accommodation for 8 with three large bedrooms (consisting of two double bedrooms and a bunk room which sleeps four), two bathrooms, a large living room and a spacious farmhouse kitchen and dining area. As a concession to the times, the house is now fully equipped with all the modern conveniences one would expect.

During recent extensions & refurbishment, a protected Alfresco kitchen/dining area was added together with a north facing sun room/ conservatory. The views are spectacular. If you find you have trouble relaxing there is a private deck with a spa.

The kitchen is fully equipped - just bring your food (or catch it). Nespresso Coffee Machine. Firewood, linen and towels are supplied. Cleaning is included in the price. Don't forget your fishing tackle, favourite CDs and a good book.
Indoor games are also provided for enjoyable evenings around the fire listening to your favourite music.

Do as much - or as little - as you want!

With the cottage set in such majestic surroundings you can take your time and do as much or as little as you want. The choice is yours.

Walk the Grounds:
Why not take a ramble through the grounds and the surrounding Karri forest. Beyond the beautiful cottage garden are the short and slightly longer walks to be had, including the Bibluman track which passes nearby.

Relax in the Spa:
Take away the strains of the big city by relaxing in the outdoor spa watching the sun set into the Karri trees surrounding the property, while the kangaroos come out to play for the evening.

Pemberton Scenic Railway:
Passing through the property is the Pemberton Scenic Railway. The two hour journey takes passengers through the towering forrest at the heart of the surrounding National Park. The native flora and fauna paint a colourful backdrop for a relaxing afternoon with a short lesson in local history thrown in.

Lefroy Brook and Warren River:
Discover the art of trout fishing! Good catches can be had just outside the front door in the Lefroy Brook and Warren River. Marron are also to be found and make for a scrumptious lunch (only to be taken in season, of course!).

Around and about:
Pemberton's local attractions are plentiful and right at your doorstep. Glauder's Cottage is just 10 minutes from the Pemberton town centre, which includes an array of local shops such as an IGA (supermarket), post office, bottle shop, a general store, a petrol station, and a town bakery.

HISTORY:
The Glauder's Block is older than Pemberton!

The Glauder's block was part of the very first settlement ('Big Brook' as it was known) in the district even before Manjimup & Pemberton townsites.

The settlement was nestled on the banks of the Lefroy Brook at the end of the driveway on Glauders Road and next to Glauders Bridge. There were many buildings, large sheds and a school house of which only the foundations and three old walnut trees remain.
The ruins of a Blacksmith's shed still remain on the property at the end of the driveway and is the only visible evidence on the 'Big Brook' settlement. When the saw mill was built further upstream the settlement moved to that location, now know as Pemberton.

Joe Glauder's family, after whom the road was named, were among the first settlers around 1908. They chose the site at the junction of two rivers (Lefroy Brook & Warren River) where there was abundant, beautiful, fresh water and rich Karri loan soil.
Among others, the very prominent W.A. Michelides family settled on the opposite bank of the Lefroy, upstream towards the Cascade Waterfall. They had a large tobacco plantation and grew their very lucrative crop for the booming world market. They built a number of drying sheds and a small house, the ruins of which still remain today. Later a railway line was built to carry logs to the mill and the remains of a siding across the bridge still remain, as does the large timber bridge over the Warren River which now carries the very popular tourist tram operating out of Pemberton. Its horn can be heard twice a day as it makes its way along the old track.

The local prominent Drake family bought the property from Joe Glauder and continued farming the property for many years. They built a water wheel to provide water for the farm and part of the floodway can be seen today.

When the Hewitt family bought the property in 1997 the house was derelict, white ant ridden and rotting away. The locals thought the new-comers were crazy when they set about rebuilding the house. They added extra bedrooms and two bathrooms which were in keeping with the architectural style. A new farmhouse kitchen was added with all mod-cons such as a dishwasher, electric oven & hot plates. In addition, air-conditioning and an entertainment system were added to the lounge. (The rebuilding process can be viewed in a photo album left our for quests.)

In late 2015 an extension was carried out to include a large covered alfresco kitchen and dining area with electric blinds to keep out unwanted dinner guests. A north facing, cosy sun room/conservatory was also added with partial glass roof and bi-fold doors opening out onto a new deck which itself flows out onto protected north facing lawn area in a magnificent landscaped garden setting. Comfortable leather lounges, a log fire and a large Smart Flat TV with soundbar and Bluetooth connectivity were added to this lovely room.

Amazing place to stay
Our family has stayed at Glauders Cottage twice, it is our go to place when staying in Pemberton. The cottage grounds are amazing, the wildlife is plentiful and the cottage is comfortable and inviting. I would highly recommend Glauders Cottage for couples our families.

Magical isolated property
Best short stay accommodation I've ever stayed at. My friends and I were in awe of the beautiful Pemberton karri trees and the wonderfully maintained garden. Nice and isolated just out of the main Pemberton township but still close to everything. Will be recommending to anyone I know going to Pemberton

Secluded bliss
I enjoyed a fly-fishing weekend at the property while a friend and his son went off to Pemberton's mountain bike competition. We greatly enjoyed the amenity, cleanliness and beauty of the property on Glauders Road. I even landed a couple of nice trout.

Paradise in Pemberton
A beautiful property with a surprise at every turn. Plenty of places to sit, relax and enjoy the bird life and gardens. All ammenities that you need to self cater and enjoy the serenity and peace that this property brings. Stroll across the paddocks, wander along the riverbank, marvel at the bird life and enjoy the extensive gardens. We and our friends loved spending the evenings out by the fireplace nestled in the garden and were all very comfortable in the house. Morning coffees watching the cows, kangaroos and emus as the mist lifted was a delightful change to suburban life. Would definitely recommend this property to those seeking some peace and serenity, it won’t disappoint!

Absolutely MAGICAL
Just WOW! Words (and photos) truly can not describe the beauty that Jans amazing cottage holds. The entire stay was an absolute delight. We felt as if we had entered our own private magical world from the moment we drove up the driveway, until the moment we closed the gate. Little touches like the bubbles left in the fridge and the fire stacked ready to light for us on our first night, were also thoroughly appreciated. Highlights included, enjoying a BBQ in the vine covered gazebo with the open fire roaring, sipping cocktails in the spa bath while overlooking the garden and trees shimmer in the sunset, and exploring the lovely little stream that runs long the property. With the wild flowers in bloom, the garden was one of the best I have ever seen, and the solid decking overlooking the magnificent view was perfect for morning yoga. I am already looking for an excuse to return as soon as possible. Thank you Jan for making such a beautiful little haven and opening it up for others to enjoy. The memories made here will last us a lifetime.

Can be improved
We stayed for 3 days with as a group. The property’s garden is well maintained however lacked in cleanliness as room were dusty and hair was in the bedroom. However the view from backyard is lovely. However during summer its very hard to cool down the cottage with the single air-conditioner in the kitchen and room were very hot to sleep at night. Also the wifi was very poor and was not connecting most of the time. The owner was friendly and responsive. Our kids enjoyed heaps of space to run around and play however I did not like the as it was not clean ( esp the bedrooms and the bathtub) and lack of air-conditioning during summer time.

Beautiful views, with plenty of opportunities to relax
Glauder's Cottage was the perfect place to relax with my husband and three good friends to celebrate his birthday in November. Being spring, the well-maintained garden was full of flowers, and the view over the valley from the sun room and verandah was breathtaking. I'd love to see the cottage in winter too, as it would be amazing to watch rain roll across the valley. We had many opportunities to spot and photograph birds from the property; wrens, kookaburras, black cockatoos and New Holland honeyeaters to name a few. The kitchen contained all the basics we needed - pots, pans, oil, salt, pepper, detergent, knives, spatulas etc. We appreciated the dishwasher which allowed us to spend more time socialising and less time washing up. Everyone found the mattresses to be very comfortable and firm, an essential for me when going away as who wants to enjoy their holiday on a poor night of sleep? My favourite feature of the house was definitely the sun room, whose main glass doors can be completely folded back and replaced with a pull-out flyscreen, so that you can spend time reading on the couch with a beautiful fresh breeze without a host of flies pestering you. I recommend either opening that room first thing in the morning, or, in the late afternoon, as from late morning to early afternoon, the sun hits the wooden boards by the folding windows and seems to attract paper wasps to inspect the wood, so opening the door during those hours could let them inside (paper wasps are generally not aggressive, but, avoiding stepping on them is a good idea!) There was plenty of kindling, wood, firestarters and matches available, and one cooler night we had a fire going in the outdoor fireplace with no difficulty. Lovely sitting outside with the fire and chatting together on the comfy outdoor couches. The road leading to the cottage is unsealed, so long as you drive carefully you'll be fine, though we were glad we rented a more robust and sturdy vehicle for the trip. Pemberton is very conveniently close, so you can easily buy extra supplies with a short trip. We love the Pemberton bakery, if you don't want to prepare every meal yourself you can't go wrong with anything that bakery has to offer, every pie and sandwich is fantastic. When we visit the south west, we want to immerse ourselves in the environment and get away from the suburban lifestyle. This cottage is perfect for that - total privacy, and a beautiful, natural setting.

Beautiful and peaceful location
We booked this property to attend a nearby event and have a little family get away. Upon arrival we were pleasantly surprised, the pictures didn’t do it justice. Our grandson loved exploring the gardens and having his bath outside in the spa tub. Their was plenty of space for us to spend time together or apart if we needed to. We enjoyed our stay so much we plan on doing it again next year.

Very relaxing and well equipped property perfect for a family holiday
We can’t recommend this property enough. The gardens are beautiful, and the outdoor fire area is perfect for reading during the day and sitting around in the evenings. The kids loved the outdoor bath and the Easter egg hunt the owners had put out for them. The kitchen was really well equipped and having the outdoor cooking area was a bonus. The kids loved exploring the property and streams and seeing the cows, sheep, emus and kangaroos surrounding it.

We were so impressed by the beautiful art, the gorgeous garden and the cosy house. One cannot have too many fireplaces and the thoughtfulness of plenty firewood and kindle!
