This two-level Condo features a unique private entrance located at the rear of the building that is reminiscent of the former theatre backstage area with original exposed brick. The entry way leads guests through the back patio of Foggy Mountain Bar and Restaurant, a local favorite, and down to what was formerly The Altamont Theater's Stage Door. Inside there is an open kitchen design with granite counter tops, a dining area that seats 10 people, a large den area on the lower level with two seating areas and a kitchenette, washer and dryer, two full bathrooms with stylish walk-in showers on the main level, casual walk-in shower in bathroom on the lower level. The main floor bedrooms include a king bed, another king bed and a queen bed (the queen bedroom has a private full bathroom). There are two lower couches on the lower level that pull out into beds with memory foam mattresses. There are no bathtubs in this condo.
The Altamont Condos is located on historic Church Street in the heart of downtown. The street is tree lined and full of beautiful old buildings including three historic churches. The location is ideal, being close to everything downtown and the street is off the high traffic streets, so it is quieter than nearby Patton Avenue.
This building was originally constructed in 1895 and renovated in 2010. The historic character of the building was preserved so it continues to fit in on Church Street while adding modern features to make the property environmentally friendly, convenient and extremely safe.
A second renovation in 2019 created a pair of two-level condos that are ideal for friend groups or families. These two units have connecting doors to create a space for larger groups.
There is high-capacity internet coming into the building and extensive Wi-Fi coverage so you can work remotely during an extended stay. For entertainment we provide a smart TV with Sling and local TV channels, and the Wi-Fi has enough capacity to stream on personal devices.
There are solar panels on the roof that are behind the original parapet that preheat the building's hot water and electric water heaters in each unit are only used for backup. Heating and cooling are provided by high efficiency heat pumps that automatically bring in fresh air from the outside so indoor air never seems stale. The building also meets the same safety standards as a hotel. There is a sprinkler system, emergency lighting and fire rated emergency exits. You can enjoy the charm of an old structure on a historic street and know that if there is an emergency in the middle of the night you can safely exit the building.
Parking is available in the new Buncombe County public garage on Coxe Ave, it's behind the church across the street and a very short walk. There is another public garage under the A-Loft hotel on Biltmore Avenue.
