About this property

Saint Charles Avenue Home on the Streetcar line

Want to experience the New Orleans city life? Our cool and comfortable, fully renovated historic 5-bedroom home is located on the streetcar line nestled among restaurants and bars just minutes from downtown.

Short Term Rental Owner Permit Number (20CSTR-20834) Applied for renewal on March 5, 2020 and waiting on new number from the City. Short Term Rental Operator License (20-OSTR-01806) expires Jan. 2021. This is a very charming and truly unique New Orleans property. Perfect for a large group of guests in town for any special occasion. Its front porch and balcony are great people watching spots as the streetcar rolls along the Avenue in the The Lower Garden District in a mixed use neighborhood. If not on the front porch and patio, the rear deck is where guests hang out and have coffee in the morning and drinks in the afternoon. The house is on the parade route for Mardi Gras! We (one of us is an architect) completed a significant renovation in 2015.

The three-story house, which was built in the 1890s, has high ceilings, the original staircase, fireplace mantels, moldings, beautiful wood floors, and french doors with tall hurricane shutters.

The home has 5 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms and can comfortably accommodate 10 guests. The first floor has a living room (with a large sofa bed), dining room (seats up to 8), full kitchen (stove/oven/microwave, ice maker, Keurig coffee maker, refrigerator, bathroom with shower and one bedroom. This ground-floor bedroom has 2 queen beds. There is also a full-size stackable washer/dryer.

Like so many old New Orleans houses, the kitchen is accessible from the ground floor bedroom or the deck which runs all along-side of the dining room, bedroom and kitchen.

The second floor has another living room (with a large sofa bed) and kitchenette (with an undercounter refrigerator, microwave, Keurig coffee maker) and 2 bedrooms. One bedroom is located along the balcony on Saint Charles Ave. with a king bed. The other bedroom has 2 queen beds. This bedroom can be used as a suite because of the bathroom layout. There are 2 full baths (all new in 2015) with a shower in each. The third floor has 2 bedrooms, each with one queen bed. They both occupy the attic space. One is spacious with a TV, desk area, and lots of sunlight. The other is well-lit by a window but quite small. All bedrooms (with the exception of the latter) and both living rooms have new TVs and cable. All bedrooms are flooded with natural light.

The home has a great front porch on the first floor and second floor balcony, both with outdoor seating, overlooking Saint Charles Ave. There is also a large deck along the side of the house. The building has a full security, fire-alarm and sprinkler system and is monitored 24 hours a day. There is no parking on the property but an abundance of parking just on the side streets.

During the 2 weeks of Mardi Gras there is a minimum 5 night stay.

During Jazz Fest both weekends there is a 4 day minimum stay.

Check-in time: 3:00 pm We can be flexible.

Check-out time: 11:00 am We can be flexible.

All amenities are accessible to the guest and are not shared when renting the house. The owner's office is in the rear outbuilding and she accesses it through the side gate the rear deck.`

Interaction with guests

We will meet you when you arrive and introduce you to the home and go through questions you may have about the home.

Great rental house
We truly enjoyed our stay in this lovely home for our daughter's Tulane graduation weekend. First of all, Margaret emailed me to ask if she could get our daughter a cake to celebrate. She also left us lots of sodas, snacks, and beer to get us started. This was above and beyond. Love the hospitality! The house is as beautiful as the photos. It was not too loud on St. Charles as I had feared. And being next door to a restaurant/bar came in handy as we carried out one night and the food was great. There was always plenty of free parking on the adjacent street. The bathrooms are newly renovated. The beds are comfortable. The kitchen is small but has all you need. We were able to spread out and use both the first and second story living rooms. The house was very clean and we loved the high ceilings and historic charm. There are no closets but they have put several hooks in each bedroom and that worked just fine. The only surprise was that the first story bedroom is shotgun-style. So you have to walk through it to get to the kitchen. BUT, we absolutely made it work for our family. We just had to move some folks around based on who got up the earliest. The neighborhood is OK but you do have to be on your guard (like everywhere in NOLA, really). I would recommend this charming house to big groups or families. Thank you, Marraget, for a great stay!

Fantastic stay in NOLA
Our group of friends greatly enjoyed our stay here. The house had tons of New Orleans charm and is located right on the St. Charles streetcar line, making it convenient to get to the French Quarter for our excursions. The home was comfortable and very clean. Their is a great taco place next door and a couple of nearby pubs. Margaret was an excellent host and had snacks and beverages waiting for us when we arrived. She was very responsive when we needed to contact her and quickly handled any concerns we had. I highly recommend staying her on your next trip to NOLA.

A little luxury and New Orleans style
Great place for group get together to explore New Orleans. We were there for a 50th celebration with 5 couples. Margret went above and beyond stocking the house with sodas, cheese, milk, bread etc. Great location for accessing all NOLA as to offer. The Taco and Beer spot right next door was perfect for a more chill night. Back deck area, lounge and dining room were perfect to hang out. Lots of New Orleans charm.

Fantastic weekend in an incredible home
This was my first time using VRBO and I am so impressed with the entire process. Margaret was very communicative and helpful, letting us check-in early, and check-out late. The house was BEAUTIFUL, even better than the pictures - lots of natural light, common area spaces inside and outside, and spacious for our group of ten. The location was perfect, very close to all the activities that we wanted to do, and convenient for walking or getting rides. Our entire group had nothing but good things to say about this home and we are so grateful to Margaret for creating the space for such a lovely weekend. Thank you!

Perfect!
We had a group of 8 in for Mardi Gras. Four couples and two children were in our group. We also had a few friends over for parade day. This is a beautiful home- perfectly located for parade watching. The owner of this home was, by far, the best we’ve ever experienced in our vrbo rentals. Thank you so much for everything!!! Laissez les bons temps rouler!!!!

Beautiful house. Perfect location. Wonderful host. Even better than described! Couldn’t be happier
Margaret, the host, was wonderful. She was very relaxed about everything and went out of her way to stock the house with drinks and snacks. The house was beautiful in a great location right on the streetcar line making it easy for our big group to travel to the garden district and french quarter. House is gorgeous with beautiful historic details. It could easily sleep more people 14-16 people (if you aren’t fussy about sharing a room.) In our group of 4 couples we each had our own room with one room left over. Thanks Margaret for providing the perfect place for us to ring in the new year in the Big Easy!
