About this property

Birregurra Escape Private Getaway. 2acre property close to Brae and Lorne

Situated just outside the town of Birregurra and only 3km from award winning Brae restaurant. Our 2 bedroom architecturally designed home sits on 2.5 acres of native gardens, vegetable beds, fruit trees and grassy areas and is surrounded by farmland on all sides, with a long sweeping view to the Otways.

The house is arranged so that 2 bedrooms are at opposite ends of the house and each has an ensuite bathroom. One bedroom has a queen futon bed, the other a double with an osteopaedic mattress. If needed and on request, there is a spare double futon mattress and linen for the living room floor (although bathroom access is via either bedroom so this may not suit all groups). We also have a portable cot and cot linen on request.

An open fire place in the living room is wonderful in winter. The open dining room seats 6. Floor to ceiling windows throughout the house give magical glimpses of the gardens and fields beyond, including the occasional rainbow, kangaroo, herd of cows or sheep and the Otway ranges. There are books and magazines galore, a stash of dvds and games for young and old. Please note there is no internet at the house. The kitchen has all the herbs and spices, vinegars and bits and bobs we use which are available to guests if they need.

The perfect place for a couple, family or friends to retreat to and explore the Great Ocean Road and Otways. Or book into the award winning Brae restaurant, book a ride with Birregurra car service and enjoy an amazing weekend away.

We are a 90 minute drive from Melbourne and 5kms from the town of Birregurra. 3km to Brae Restaurant, 30 minutes to the beaches of Lorne, Angelsea and Aireys Inlet and 40 minutes to Apollo Bay.

The property used to be the site of Ripplevale Primary School and the present home was built in 2001.

NOTE: 2 NIGHT MINIMUM STAY ONLY

Perfect rural retreat
We were looking for a peaceful rural retreat and this was perfect for us. The house is surrounded by nothing but farmland yet only a few minutes from Birregurra. The huge fireplace is a winter magnet and a very pleasant place to sit. Really relaxing and very enjoyable stay.

Peaceful slice of heaven
I couldn't rate this place highly enough, the photos can't depict how peaceful it was staying here for the day and night. We enjoyed the outdoor space, lit the fire and enjoyed food while listening to the records that were available to us. No TV, noise pollution or people around, just a few girlfriends enjoying each others company. The space is super clean, the beds and furniture very nice and comfortable and everything you could need for a home away from home. It was nice to forget about the rest of the world for a night and we couldn't imagine it being in a cosier space. Thank you so much!

Beautiful house!
This is such a lovely modern and cosy house with unique features and lots of natural light. It has a wonderful garden and outdoor space for activities or for kids to run around! I wished we could have spent more time at the property. If we are back in the area we will absolutely be staying here again.

Relaxing getaway.
Eco friendly, organic , self sufficient, quiet, peaceful, rural. Great if you want to get away from the madding crowd. Plenty of room for kids to run around. Has a big enclosed trampoline and tree swing and various ropes gor climbing the old trees.

Home a short walk from Brae
Beautiful property in a lovely area, we stayed overnight and were able to walk home from an excellent dinner at Brae. The property itself was very well thought out and functional with all the thoughtful touches of home. We especially enjoyed the garden herbs and would be a great place for kids to play. The owners had excellent communication, hassle free check in and were very kind to let us check out a bit later.

This is a sweet and comfortable property that is well located to Birregurra township and for eating at Brae (which is why we went). Lovely peaceful spot and the property was very private and comfortable. Thank you Kim!

Here for the food, stay for the vibe
We came to Birregurra to eat at Australia's best restaurant, Brae, conveniently located 3 kms down the road. We just needed a bed to rest our full bellies. What we got was a peaceful sanctuary, nestled in a clump of pine trees. The house is unassuming but craftily constructed and carefully designed. Loved the vintage and kitsch decor. Hanimex bedside lamp! We didn't bring the kids this trip but know they would love to run and explore the grounds.

Magical experience
We just got back from two nights at the Birregurra Escape and we had a gem of a time. The perfect accommodation for two couples or a family, we loved sitting by the fire playing Articulate (from the wide range of board games on offer) and drinking wine. We went to Brae on night one for a magical dinner, but I think we had even more fun dancing round the lounge on night 2. A garden worthy of exploring and a tree that looked very climb-uppable (we restrained ourselves due to the downward climb and our advanced years). A fully stoked kitchen with a lovely lay-out made dining at home as easy as dining out. Do yourself a favour and check it out!

About the host

Hosted by Kim Riley

Host profile image
We are Kim, Tim, Craig and Anna - two couples who bought the property together over a decade ago as a retreat from city life. Since then we (both couples) have had children but we all still love going to the property, even more so now with our young families. We have rented the property over this time to other people seeking a relaxing time in Birregurra for many reasons. Lately most of our guests are going to dine at Brae restaurant and our house is perfect for two couples wanting to get away and enjoy a fine dining weekend. We have a spare futon for the floor so taking the kids along is an option too, or if a third couple don't mind sleeping in the loungeroom or in near the fireside

Why they chose this property

As soon as we visited the property we knew that it would bring peace to our busy city lives, a counterbalance to the concrete jungle. It immediately spoke to us. Luckily we saw it just as it went on the market.
