About this property

Private Cabin Near Savage Gulf State Park

Do you really want to get away from it all and take a step back in time? Make your way to our cabin that overlooks part of the Savage Gulf State Natural Area, and it sits on the edge of a bluff which has a great 180 degree unobstructed views of the mountains and valley. There are family-friendly activities such as a basketball court, tennis court, and hiking. You’ll love our place because of the coziness and how rustic it is. Great for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids older than 2 years old), and medium size groups.

10 minutes to groceries, gas and other essentials; 36 minutes to The Caverns (new home of the PBS series "Bluegrass Underground", and a truly unique year-round live music venue); 5 minutes to the Savage Gulf/Stone Door area of South Cumberland State Park (at 31,000 acres, Tennessee's largest state park, famous for its waterfalls, vistas, hiking, backpacking); 35 minutes to Monteagle and the Fiery Gizzard area of the State Park; 45 minutes to Sewanee and the University of the South. This is a great 'base camp' from which you can take easy day trips to some of the best Tennessee has to offer: 1hr 18minutes to Chattanooga's Tennessee Aquarium, Rock City, Ruby Falls and other attractions; 1hr 12 minutes to Jack Daniel and George Dickel distillery tours or to Fall Creek Falls State Park (highest waterfall in the eastern U.S.); 1hr 45 minutes to Huntsville (AL)'s U.S. Space and Rocket Center or Nashville's Music Row, or 2 hrs to white water rafting on the Ocoee or Hiwassee Rivers. All the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains without all the crowds!

Activities on the property include hiking, basketball, and tennis. The property sits on 12 acres and you do not see any other man made structures in the view from the back porch.

The wood on the main part of this cabin comes from an old farm house that was built in the 1800s an hour away from Beersheba Springs, torn down, and reassembled at its current location.

The large porches provide a wonderful outdoor living space that helps you soak in that 180 degree view of the mountains and valley below. There is even a couch swing so you can take a nap or enjoy the view with several of your closest friends or family.

There is a working wood burning fire place that helps add even more charm to your stay.

Outside of the basketball and tennis courts there is a game and puzzle closet to keep you busy on those cold and rainy days. There is also life size jenga as well as a cornhole set located in the downstairs bedroom.

This cabin has everything you need to truly relax and spend quality time with your closest friends and family.
Local activities within a five mile radius include Greeter Falls and Stone Door which is part of Savage Gulf State Park.

The absolute BEST stay
Friends from Texas and Georgia met at this cabin to hike the area and reconnect. Our group was 3 adults and 7 kids age 5-16. The cabin gave everyone private space as well as the BEST communal spaces. The deck and view were better than anything we saw hiking, and the front yard and neighborhood were perfect for being active outside while “home.” The cabin is “rustic” but spacious and fully functional with dishes and towels and comfortable beds and furniture. We couldn’t have enjoyed it more. We hope to come back some day!

Family Birthday Weekend
My siblings and spouses spent the weekend here as we loved the view from the back deck! The house was rustic and had plenty of room for everyone with a full bathroom on each floor. The kitchen was well stocked with anything required for your stay. We arrived with the cold weather so we did use the fireplace. We had a lovely visit and had a special dinner at High Point in Monteagle as we all dressed in 1920’s costumes! We had a blast! Pros: the house is secluded and quiet, perfect location. We had plenty of bedrooms and beds for our 7 adults. We enjoyed the fireplace and kept it burning while we were there! It reminded us of going to Grandpa’s house with the cool bedrooms and not a lot of heat. Regardless we were warm enough. The views off the deck were gorgeous! We were supplied with plenty or toilet tissue, paper towels, etc. Cons: We have no issue with old or rustic or even being in the woods. However, there were dead bugs that hadn’t been cleaned up or swept up in a while. We swept two huge piles upon arrival in just the living room and kitchen. I believe the housekeepers need to do a better job at cleaning. Also normally we would use the overhead ceiling fans however they definitely need a good cleaning prior to turning them on. Overall a great property but closer attention to general cleaning would be in order.

Perfect Rustic Cabin For Hiking Savage Gulf Area
I took my five sons for a weekend of hiking in the Savage Gulf area. We purposely choose a rustic place to stay and prefer it and that's exactly what this cabin is. It's a 100 year old log cabin that is located close to all the best hiking areas. It has just enough comforts of home to enjoy; but still very rustic and very simple and clean. Our fav parts about this cabin were the fireplace and the VIEW. It sits on top of a ridge with a FANTASTIC view. If you want new, better grab a hotel in Monteagle. But if you want an old time primitive log cabin, this is your place. I gave it 5 stars because it was a perfect fit for what we wanted. Would easily stay again.

Beautiful, rustic, peaceful get away
As long as you know it’s rustic going you’re going to love it! The view off the back deck is amazing… we pretty much just sat there, except for eating and sleeping. Stone door and greeter falls are long time faves and this cabin is conveniently situated between them. Pots and pans and silverware and any dishes you would need. The beds were comfortable, plenty of room for our group, and it was a great moms getaway weekend.

Charmin rustic cabin
We had an amazing time! The cabin is rustic but very confortabke, with all you need and more. Beds are confortable and it has a big table that was perfect for our group of ten. But the best is that the porch has a breathtaking view! Very close to nice hiking spots. The basketball court in front of the cabin made our 13 years old superhappy! Owner was very responsive and answered all of our questions right away. Perfect spot to spend time together with friends and family!

Great property but heavy bug infestation
Everything was as advertised, but the property inside was infested with stink bugs by the hundreds. In the beds, counters, walls. We tried to make the best of the beautiful property, but utimately it was not comfortable and ruined our stay. I was prepared for bugs having grown up in the woods, but this was not some bugs. There were Hundreds. Unfortunately, we can’t recommend.

Great family gathering!
We had a wonderful time! The view of Savage Gulf was beautiful. Mother Nature helped out with an evening thunderstorm light show and some remarkable morning mist. Highly recommend catering a meal from Polly….great suggestion. The children loved the daily visits from Maya. The heads up information really helped enhanced the encounters. Hope to visit again!

Nice getaway
The property is beautiful, peaceful, and lots of space for all the family. It's within a close drive to all the state park areas we wanted to visit. It wasn't the cleanest I'd personally like, not counting the critters. Regardless, I believe I would stay there again.

Not Flexible
We booked the cabin with the understanding there wasn't an option of a refund past a certain date. Due to issues with the attraction not opening as thought we requested to change the dates. We did NOT request a refund, just to change the dates. The owner refused to work with us. We lost everything we paid. As I said we understood, no refunds but to refuse to allow us to reschedule the dates was unbelievable.

Gorgeous Rustic and Roomy
We had a wonderful week. Our days were spent cooking in the very well stocked kitchen, sitting on the deck taking in the panoramic views, and going on nearby hikes. Our evenings were spent around the fireplace playing board games and enjoying the ambience of this beautiful old cabin. The beds were comfortable and even with no central heat, we were able to stay warm in the bedrooms. The fireplace is a central feature to the house and we used it every waking hour. We did have a toddler with us, and despite the house not being "toddler-proof", we were able to keep her out of harms way. Other families with small children might want to carefully evaluate the owners suggestion that the property is not recommended for toddlers and babies (due to fireplace, stairs, and deck) before booking. The owner was responsive and helpful and promptly dealt with a couple of small hiccups. We would definitely come again!

Our Favorite Get Away
We absolutely love coming to this cabin. It has become somewhat of a tradition with our friend group. We love the location, the layout of the bedrooms and how spacious everything is. We spend most of our time on the fabulous deck and around the dining tables playing games or doing puzzles. Diners are always so fun here because did the beautiful dishes and napkins. Love how many beds there are! It was nice this last trip to be able to each have our own beds. This is a rustic family cabins me is not pristine. But that’s exactly why we love it so! Will definitely be back in the spring!

Place was rustic with quiet secluded views!
Everything was amazing with property, very home like. Lots of plus items in house like things you need already there. Only con was no central air (window units in bedrooms only) and something with electric where if you plugged something in while a light was on kept tripping breakers.

Spectacular view, cozy and extremely inviting
The property is everything the owners described. I wish we had come here in summer and enjoyed the deck more. I can just picture sitting out on the deck watching the sun rise, relaxing. Or being indoors with the windows and doors wide open, with the breeze coming up the mountain, playing games at the table. I'll give you my honest pros and cons. All of my cons are things that go along with renting an older property and we didn't have a problem with any of them, but we live in a 180 year old stone house and these are issue we are used to and didn't mind. Cons: Windows don't seal. We stayed at Thanksgiving, it was in the 50's so the temperature inside wasn't bad, but had it been windy this might have been an issue. Critters scratching at night. No critters were in the living space, but there were definitely a couple in the walls. Bugs, there's definitely some bugs, but not nearly as many as when we're camping. Electric is older and you'll have to be careful about what appliances you use at the same time. The breaker box is updated so we weren't worried about electrical fire issues. Pros, so many I can't list all. Most of them you can read in the property description, but here's a couple that were my personal favorites. Brand New space heaters and air conditioners in each room. Even though we stayed in November, none of us were chilly at night as we all could heat our rooms individually. 6 of us cam from Wisconsin and 3 of us came from Florida, we have different ideas of comfortable sleeping temps. Beautiful views, not only of the mountain and valley, but the whole property is charming. The dishes! Yes, I said dishes. They have the most wonderful dinning and glassware. They remind me of my grandparents and made Thanksgiving feel all that more special. Games and activities galore. Blankets, blanket and more blankets. Even if it would have gotten drafty the owners have provided multitudes of high quality and adorable things to wrap yourself up in. Well stocked kitchen, pots, pans, spatula, potato masher, etc. You need it to cook with, they got it. An area surrounded by neighbors who know exactly where your staying and very willing to give you directions and recommendations. The most homey and comforting décor. If your a person that has issues with some bugs and critters this is not the place for you, but if you want the real feeling of an old fashioned country mountain cabin, this is the place!

Family Cabin
We rented a few cabins in the area for family to stay during our wedding weekend. The deck off this cabin is amazing! Love the view and the swing. They grilled out the first night. Location is very easy to find and a beautiful quiet neighborhood. The cabin decor is charming and rustic and very open in the living room. We heard there were some spiders and rodents scratching around - but that's to be expected with a mountain cabin. Plenty of parking space and a nice yard to enjoy. So pleased to have found this haven!

About the host

Host profile image
This is our family's cabin that we built in 1981. It has been in our family ever sense.

We grew up in the Franklin area just south of Nashville, TN.

We have a passion for working hard, being outside, and spending quality time with our friends and family as well as helping others any chance we get.

Why they chose this property

Our family has been coming to Beersheba Springs, TN since the early 1900s. It started with my great grandfather and we have been going up there ever since.

Going to Beersheba helps us push the reset button on our busy day to day life that we live.

The rustic feel of the cabin and the rich history of Beersheba Springs creates an atmosphere that dates back to the 1800s which is actually how old the wood is that currently makes up the main part of the cabin.

What makes this property unique

It has a front porch swing as well as a church pew and a Jack Daniels barrel we store wood in for the fireplace.

The back porch has a 180 degree unobstructed view of the mountains and valley below. Our favorite feature is the couch swing on the back porch.

The cabin has many puzzles and board games as well as a basketball and tennis courts.

It sits on 3 acres of land that you have full access to.
