About this property

Garden Bay Cottage Retreat

My place is close to many beautiful lakes and the pacific ocean. Great for hiking, relaxing, bird watching, peace and quiet. Enjoy the insert fireplace or (in fire season) enjoy an outdoor fire in the fire pit. You’ll love the place because of the high ceilings, the trees, the amenities, outdoor shower, the location, and the ambience. There is a widescreen tv with complimentary Netflix and Apple TV. The cottage is great for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids), and sleeps up to 5. The many lakes are the best. There are boat rentals and kayaking close by as well as some great restaurants, art stores, golf course, hiking trails, tourist sights, and even horseback riding close by. Coffee is complimentary, along with grinder, bodem, dishes, towels, cutlery, microwave, strong wifi, and many other amenities for your enjoyment. Pets are 15 dollars per night additional per pet.

Peaceful, private and cozy

Peaceful, private location and just the right size for our family with one bedroom down and loft above. Enjoyed the fire pit, walks through the neighbourhood, and the nearby Pender Hill hike.

Long weekend stay on the Sunshine Coast

The property was perfect for the two of us and provided a lovely central location for our travels up and down the southern Sunshine Coast.

Hidden gem with lots to explore around

It was our first visit to the Sunshine Coast and we were not disappointed. If you like the outdoors and don't mind being away from big urban areas, you will love it. As for the property, it was a very nice cottage that provided us with everything we needed. A nice secluded place on a fully treed hill. Lots of deers around, on one occasion we even saw a bear about 300m from the cottage so keep all your food inside. The access road to the cottage is a bit steep and if you have a big long truck as I do, it is a bit of a challenge to get out, but after some practice, we were fine. The only thing we were missing was enough of firewood since we found a bundle that lasted only for about a day and a half. Luckily we had more wood with us to feed the fireplace. There is a hiking trail only about 5 minutes drive from the cottage with a beautiful view on the top, so don't miss that one! Definitely recommend the place, and if there is a chance in the future, we would like to return again. Thanks Tony!

Excellent

Like the location. Up on the mountain. Almost rustic. Nice deck and lay out. Good for 4 people and a couple of kids. Worked with the owner on an electrical issue but other than that an excellent stay.

A Slice of Heaven

Tony’s place was a slice of heaven. The cabin was very nice, fully stocked kitchen, comfortable bed. Extras like movies and games. The outdoors was amazing!! Nestled in tall trees with a natural retaining wall surrounding the back of the property. Waking up with coffee on the deck with the birds. Sitting by the fire outdoors gazing at the stars at night. This place was a real gem, we will be back.

Peaceful stay in Garden Bay

We enjoyed the woodsy location, which was near trails and felt somewhat secluded. The place was more than spacious enough for two. The wood stove was a plus and plenty of wood was provided. The only thing I would encourage is a better selection of cooking pots, as we cooked several meals. Tony was terrific in responding to questions we had about Apple TV. I would definitely return for another stay.

Garden Bay Paradise

The stay in Garden Bay was amazing. Tony was a wonderful, responsive host, and couldn't have been better. Check-in was super-easy, and the house was clean and cozy. The only part that was a little confusing was that it wasn't close to the water (water is never far away though). The pictures looked like it was, but it was a short drive.

Good place to stay

Cabin located in great spot! Very quiet an isolated. It’s well equipped so no problem with cooking. Nice deck and fire pit outside. It’s quite small so suited not more than 4 people, bed are so so, common area is ok.

Nestled in the woods

Thank you Tony, we had a wonderful time at your cottage. Everything you needed for a comfortable stay is provided for you. My favorite place was the patio, it's was great to just lounge around and enjoy the peace and quiet after a long day doing the many different activities Sunshine Coast has to offer. You will love the scenic drive on your way to your cottage. Once you arrive at Tony's driveway make sure to get a running start as the driveway is a little steep. I totally recommend this cottage as the price is fair and a decent place to stay.

Great place and had a lovely time!

This is a little piece of paradise. We wish we would have brought our kayak because we were so close to some of the prettiest lakes I have ever seen. Tony was very receptive and responsive to our requests. Atticus (our labradoodle) had a great time with some hiking trails close by. Nice get away from the big city!

Slice of the Paradise nestled in the Woods

A great stay at the Garden Bay Cottage. Small blip on the radar when we arrived but Tony was very responsive and corrected the issue at hand. Kitchen was well stocked. We had coffee every morning outside under the trees. The property was conveniently located to awesome trails. We did the Pender trail, at the end of the driveway and right up the street. Also, did Daniel Mountain and took a ride to Skucomchuck Narrows. I would recommend the cottage and would like to return one day. Thank you again Tony!

Cozy, everything you need, close to trails

Lovely warm and cozy cottage/cabin, with all the essentials and good technology (fast wifi, Netflix, etc.) for relaxing indoors in the evening (we stayed in deep mid-winter). We found ample trails within walking distance for short hikes with beautiful views. Pender Hill trail is a stone's throw from the door for a quick workout. If we ever went anywhere twice (which we don't) we'd stay here again. Thank you, Tony!

Great Cabin in the Woods

Private well supplied getaway. We were looking for a peaceful few days away and found it. Tony's little hideaway was perfect. Secluded but not secluded. Close enough to the neighbors yet private and perfect. Lots to see and do on the Sunshine Coast. Beautiful lakes abound. Ocean close by and numerous hiking trails. Thanks Tony.

Thank you Tony for the great weekend at your cottage...

Well organized for 4 people, private, close to lakes and the ocean. Do food shopping on way at Seashell, no stores close by. Owner, Tony was a call away. Super place to stay... Thx again... Family of 4 with 2 girls (dogs)

About the host

Hosted by Tony Papa

Host profile image
i am a filmmaker that travels a lot. I love hosting people at my second home in this beautiful, quiet, peaceful place. I also run a film school in Powell River BC and offer my cottage in-between my stays there. You will love it. It's very quiet and peaceful.

Why they chose this property

This was purchased as a get-a-way for my daughter and myself from the city. Since then we moved to another town further up the coast to run a film school so I don't use this one as much though I love staying there in between hosting guests. It is the perfect balance between secluded and accessible.

What makes this property unique

Unique benefits to this place are the many beautiful lakes, the ocean very close, the quiet and the wonderful trees that surround the place. Hiking trails are many and there are many great places to discover. Great breakfast places, pubs, golf course and stars to see. It is just a 8-minute walk to the ocean and a 10-minute walk to the beautiful Hotel Lake. 5-minute drive to the wonderful Katherine Lake with its sandy beach and hikes.
