About this property

Studio Cabin Hidden in Towering Pines within 10 feet of lake. Pets accepted!

Our one room cabin, located on West Crooked Lake Resort, is a clean and well maintained cabin. It has a deck where you can relax under the shade of pine trees and enjoy a wonderful view of West Crooked Lake. It is at the end of the resort and located very near the water.

This cabin is perfect for a couple or a couple with a young child.

The cabin has a charcoal grill, lawn chairs, and comes with a fully equipped kitchen that includes a microwave, stove, oven, coffee maker, and all the accompanying dishes, pots and pans, and utensils.

We provide bed linens and towels. We supply toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, and hand soap. This is a non-smoking cabin.

One dock slip is included with the cabin for the fishermen in the group. We have a pontoon and fishing boats to rent if you don't have your own but want to fish or tour beautiful West Crooked Lake.

West Crooked Lake Resort, nestled along 400 feet of lakeshore, is a family-friendly resort located in the Paul Bunyan State Forest, surrounded by towering pines situated on the northeast shore of West Crooked Lake. Located in a quiet wooded area, the cabins sit on spacious grounds overlooking a secluded, beautiful lake. While our location is quiet and serene, we are only 15 miles NE of Park Rapids, MN and 15 miles SW of Walker, MN, where opportunities for shopping, dining, and recreation are plentiful.

We provide activities on the resort for everyone. West Crooked Lake Resort offers relaxation and enjoyment for the entire family. You can enjoy sun bathing on the sandy beach, swimming in the clear water, playing on the Rave Water Park, or reading a book in the shade. Listen to the loons calling, watch eagles soar overhead, glide through the clear waters in a canoe or paddleboat, or just bring a book, relax, and catch some rays on the sandy beach. For the fishermen, West Crooked Lake hosts a large variety of fish including Walleye, Northern, Bass, Perch, Crappie and Sunfish.

Many area attractions are just minutes from the resort. Biking/walking trails, golf courses, casinos, a fun park, a local winery (tours available), horseback riding, shopping and restaurants, and the Headwaters of the Mississippi in Itasca State Park are just a few of the attractions you will find.

Cabin 1
We had a very nice time here. I would have to say this was the cleanest cabin i have ever stayed at. There was almost any kind of kitchen item you could imagine for cooking. It was great being so close to the lake. We enjoyed time out on the deck and being able to grill. All cabins looked occupied but you would never know it as everyone was so respectful and quiet. We would come back again.

Great place to hang your hat
This is a great place to call home away from home. We were here in the later part of September. Checked in on Sunday and out on Friday. It was nice and quiet, but that could be due to the fact we weren't there in the summer or on the weekend. We were using the cabin as our base to do some hiking and biking at Itasca State Park and La Salle Lake State Rec Area. Beautiful views and peaceful. The only issues we had: the cabin is in need of some foundation repair, so there is a slant on one side of the cabin. If you're not careful you could lose your balance (if you had one too many to drink). The bathroom door doesn't close completely, so you have to trust whoever is in the cabin with you to not peek. The water is not what I am use to, very stinky. We picked up some bottled water after arriving. And the cabin is down a steep set of stairs. It's not for people with mobility issues. Having said all that, I'd still stay there again. It was a peaceful place to come back to after a day of exploring. Maybe next time we'll have time to try out the lake.

Blissful
Our experience of this resort and it's management--welcoming, clean, responsive and full of Northwoods character. West Crooked Lake Resort is small but packed with options and excellently located to pursue any type of activity or none at all. We're newly retired and for the first time vacationed when most others are not--arriving the Sunday directly before Labor Day. Most tourist-related businesses were still open but not crowded. Property owner Susan and property manager Rick are both experts at what they do and immediately responsive to any question. Cabin 1 is prepped to anticipate every need. We loved the privacy of our own fire ring and view of the lake. Best for me was "forest bathing" amidst the giant Norway pines. Love, love, love this place.

Perfect cabin right on the lake, quite and clean with water toys and well maintained lawns around cabins. Definitely will book again, super friendly host on resort property. Picture doesn’t do the cabin justice.

Clean and Welcoming -- Need Updates
The place is right on the water front and was really clean. Unfortunately, it was poorly insulated. We had to run water all night so the pipe wouldn't freeze. Perfect kitchen appliances and tools, NO seasoning. I expected a minimum of salt and pepper. Otherwise, it should be included in the listing that you have to bring everything. A pleasant visit with a lot left to be desired.

Perfect R &R!
A great & cozy getaway for my wife and I. We had everything we needed. We grilled, made homemade pizza, and ordered take out at Cindy Lou’s restaurant (awesome food). We rented a pontoon and spent a day on the lake. The cabin was perfect, with a stellar view of the lake which was awesome with morning coffee on the deck, and the sound of loons in the air. Darin was always there when we needed him. Oh, our dog Brody gives it 5 stars (4 paws up) also. All in all a much needed & satisfying reprieve. Thank you Susan & family, and Darin

So very private , nice to be right on the lake
the only concern was that we did have mice in the cabin at night we heard something and I got up and saw one. they seem to keep to the floor --- so we just make sure everything was covered over night.

The little cottage on the Lake
Overall I came to enjoy the small quaint cabin on the lake. Was working in Park Rapids for a week and the days were very long, which made it hard to enjoy the property and the lake. It was an awesome place to come back to in the evening. A couple of notes: Bathroom - small but adequate for me. I would board up the window and install a mirror there above the sink, for shaving, etc. Also the main entry door has a large gap on the bottom allowing cold air to enter the cabin, especially at night. The baseboard had trouble heating the cabin when it dropped into the 20's. The small additional heater helped take the chill out, especially in the morning. The place needs some maitenance especially the deck, roof, etc but overall I enjoyed it and would come back. One other note- the VRBO site says its 12 miles from Park Rapids when its actually 18 miles. Made a difference for me especially driving in and out every day. Doug

It was a very cute clean comfortable little cabin!
It was perfectly laid out and set up with everything we needed and more! The one room size may be small but it didn’t feel tight, it still felt spacious and was just right for our likings! :) The lake view was fabulous with the shoreline nice and close, which we love! It was a peaceful, relaxing & beautiful lake. The loons sang every day and evening with their little fluffy baby in tow that so cool to see!! The temps were cooler than a normal for a June week but our stay was just what we needed from the busy rush of life. Thank you Susan for renting your quaint little cabin out for us to stay at and being so accommodating with the dates we needed, and thank you to the Management staff that were friendly and helpful. We do plan to be back another time. :)

good quiet location, nice lake views, but small
We enjoyed our stay in this studio cabin north of Nevis. Bed is good, cute little kitchen, but very little counter-top space. Full size fridge. Bath is tiny and cramped for my 6’3” height. Only 1 side table w light for reading in bed. Floor gets cold when outside temp drops and wind blows. Friendly property manager who is available to answer questions.

Sweet cabin tucked away with great view of the lake!
Overall our stay was amazing! We chose this for our anniversary getaway and were not disappointed! The cabin is perfect for a couple with lots of amenities so you really only need groceries and you are set! Area has lots of little tourist shops to visit within 30 minutes. Fishing is good! We didn’t utilize the paddle boat, canoe or kayak but they are easily accessible to all cabins. Saw lots of family’s playing yard games and firewood is available for a fire if you like! We miss it already but will definitely be back!!

Great location & Everything we needed
We were pleasantly surprised by the amazing view of the lake we had from the cabin. The cabin was cute & fully stocked with everything we needed. The resort had all the beach & water toys, life jackets, dvds and lawn games we could have needed. Only complaint is the bed was a little uncomfortable.

Awesome getaway!
Great little one room cabin. Was right on the lake with a view that would impress any girl. My two girls(4 & 8) had a great time. We like to cook our meals and the cabin had all the pots, pans and utensils you would have at home. The Weber charcoal grill was a plus!

Nice little cabin
The cabin is great for two people, any more would not be wise. The bed is not very comfortable. Better written information about what is available in cabin and at resort would be appreciated. The owner was very responsive to our requests and let us have a late check out which was appreciated. Neighboring cabins are quite close and a noisy group was using community fire pit both nights.

Great little cabin
This is a fabulous little resort. Very quiet and has every thingyou need. The one room cabin is small, but has everything you need for a weekend stay. The kitchen is very well equipped to make a meal, whether you grill or have another meal. The deck on the one room cabin was small, but just the right size for two adults and a dog. Susan is a great hostess and will ensure you have what you need. Check it out!

West Crooked Lake and the surrounding area is nature at its best. As you look around you will see tall pines, wild flowers, abundant wildlife and a home to a family of loons. West Crooked Lake Resort was originally known as Timberlost Resort & Campground and was owned by the Jerrold and Doris Skadberg family for over 25 years. The Skadberg family had been coming from North Dakota to the Park Rapids area for their family vacations for decades and they came to love the trees, lakes and wildlife. In 1979, they decided to purchase Timberlost and to make Minnesota their permanent home. Several of their nine children, including myself, Susan, were involved over the years in helping Jerrold and Doris operate the resort.

In 2003, I purchased a portion of Timberlost Resort and established West Crooked Lake Resort and constructed a new cabin and remodeled existing cabins with a northern decor to welcome all. I became familiar with the resort business through the years of helping my family with Timberlost Resort and decided to continue the resort tradition that my parents had started. Prior to purchasing the resort, I was an owner of a software development company and still work for that company. I enjoy getting away from my Dillon, CO residence to relax at our Up North resort with my two children, Nathan and Tomiko.

Why they chose this property

Family is very important to me and it is wonderful that we can keep this beautiful lake resort in our family. My family has been visiting the Park Rapids area for our summer vacations for over 50 years. We really love it here.

What makes this property unique

When you visit West Crooked Lake Resort, you can forget what is happening in the rest of the world and completely relax for a few days. You can really enjoy your vacation in the woods.
