Quiet getaway in gorgeous cottage
We loved our stay - 5 mins each way to Witchcliffe and Margaret River, it was a great quiet getaway in the middle of the busy season. The cottage had everything you could need, well stocked kitchen and books, comfortable beds, laundry and board games for kids. The wildlife was amazing - friendly blue wrens, skinks and rabbits, and lots of property for the kids to ride their bikes around happily for hours. Thanks to Sally, we loved our stay

Beautifully clean and neat rustic country cottage
If you want to step back in time and into farm / country life but appreciate a very neat and clean home the Swallows cottage is perfect. Really enjoyed our stay and felt like we were in a farm home still being lived in by a family. Well appointed and great as simply a place to stay the night after running around the southwest or spending the day, cooking a meal and enjoying a nice fire in the living room. We will be back

In love with this cottage
We absolutely loved this quaint little cottage waking up in the morning to the sound of sheep passing by the beautiful little self contained garden with fairy wrens darting in and out of the bird baths. It’s like visiting your nannas house it’s just so cute and relaxing. A lovely little homestead.

Blue Wren cottage
This quaint old world weatherboard cottage was charming and unique with its original paintings by a recognised WA artist. Being set in the middle of farming land allowed us to view all the beautiful local birdlife and the Aurora Australis at night. Our UK grandchildren were charmed by all the birdlife as well as the local roos and emus in the neighbouring paddocks. The cottage was well stocked and basics were provided. Being small there wasnt really any room for us to put our own provisions. There is no insulation in the cottage and no airconditioning so bear that it mind. There are fans and generally speaking it is cooler there than in Perth. Recommended.

Family friendly cottage
Cottage was very clean with super comfy beds! Beautiful decor and all the kitchen ware needed for our large group. Spacious bedrooms, two porches so we were not tripping over each other. Good selection of board games and DVDs (phones took a back seat). Nice big country kitchen to sit and share meals. Highly recommend this property

Tranquillity, in a beautiful setting
Great loaction, close enough to everything you need but just perfect for a truly rural getaway in a charming character cottage full of history. Clean and tidy, everything you need for a homestay. We were lucky enough to have see emus in the paddocks along with many other birds in the garden. Highly recommended for some peace and quiet and connection to nature rather than the internet!

Absolutely what we needed
Coming from Melbourne to stay with our Perth daughter and her little one we wanted somewhere to have a relaxing holiday within our holiday for a few nights. This cottage is so lovely. It's relaxed and refurbished beautifully with the traditional original look. The Wren birds out front were a delight and the way you feel so alone without neighbours was perfect. My little granddaughter loved seeing the cows and bunnies. If we get the opportunity to come back we definetely will. Highly recommend this place with a wood heater and super comfy beds and everything you could need.

Beautiful, welcoming character home in forest
We stayed in the stunning Swallows Cottage this week, it was impeccably presented with every little attention to detail. It is a gorgeous character home on a working farm amongst the forest just near Witchcliffe. The beauty of the surrounds cannot be captured in photos. The kitchen is very well set up with oven, microwave, toaster, kettle (filled and ready for a cuppa) and everything you could possibly need. The beds were comfortable and the whole home was lovingly set up for a warm welcome to guests. Lots of games, books, entertainment on offer (no wifi but Telstra worked very well on the property to hotspot from phone). Quick drive into town or the nearby Witchcliffe “strip” . We will definitely be back!

Cute cottage
It was the cutest little cottage. Very vintage. It’s a shame we only stayed two nights. It was very well equipped with what we needed. And in-spite of it being cold, they did have electric blankets. Lovely fire and lovey morning view off the verandah. Had a high chair as well as a travel cot. We didn’t realise this and had our own. But great if you are coming and don’t want to drag all the paraphernalia of a baby. Enclosed outdoor area, which makes it safe for the toddler. I would definitly recommend.

About the host

Swallows Welcome, a 120 acre property was purchased by my parents, Tim and Patricia Negus in 1988. They planted a vineyard and built a mud brick house, winery, art studio and chapel using the earth and timber from the property. My father passed away in 2017 and Mum moved in to Margaret River in 2021 so the winery and art studio are currently closed although it is undergoing renovation for future holiday accommodation and weddings/parties/concerts/retreats in the chapel from July 2023.
My husband, Matt and I started restoring the original group settlement cottage, 'Swallows Cottage' in 1999 and we have enjoyed many family holidays there since then. In 2012 we decided that it would be nice to share the cottage with other people and to derive some income from renting it out to help with the maintenance and upgrades.

Why they chose this property

If you are planning a holiday in the beautiful Margaret River region, this charming, well maintained historical settlers cottage on a peaceful rural property is a lovely alternative to a townhouse or hotel room in the middle of bustling Margaret River.
If you are from overseas and would like to experience life in an authentic Australian farm cottage on a working farm and also see native Australian birds and animals, including kangaroos and emus, then you will enjoy staying at Swallows Cottage.

What makes this property unique

Old world charm in this historic cottage that will take you back to a quieter time where life was simpler and the pace slower.
