Classic kiwi crib overlooking the river/estuary and right on the waters edge at high tide with safe swimming. Watch the amazing bird life at low tide while relaxing on the deck or take a 10 minute walk to a lovely white sandy beach. Great for surfing, swimming, fishing and peninsula walks. Walking distance to local shop. Please note: Bathroom and single beds room are basic, rustic and quirky but crib is clean, cosy and in a beautiful location with a fantastic view! Only 30 minutes to Dunedin.

Location good. Needs a new entry door as not secure and key broke in lock. Interior needs sprucing up especially for the amount of money paid for accommodation.

The pictures on this site are not a true depiction of reality!

This booking was made for friends traveling to Dunedin. The batch was not clean...there were mice inside...the door to enter was jammed with moisture...the bedding was inadequate and the batch was cold...toilet was leaking...a blind fell down when closed. When Sharon the owner was advised about the mice and other issues nothing was done and no compensation offered. The whole three day experience was totally disappointing. The photos online need to be updated because the batch is tired and poorly maintained. I would never recommend people book this property and it needs a lot of upgrading to be part of bookabatch because it is not doing the organisation justice!

Family memorial

location was on point and batch was just everything we needed. Our family gathered there for the memorial and to be able to stay right there and get things ready was awesome. Thank you. It was everything we hoped for and what a pleasure it was to walk in and see how cute and well fitted out it was. We will be back one day

Slice of heaven

The most perfect position right on the estuary. The crib is small but very comfortable and warm. My favourite place to be was on the porch looking out at the water and birds with cup of tea. Also the baking at the local general store was beyond good! Excellent holiday, thank you!

Beautiful location

Such an amazing view, I could hardly believe it! Kids (and adults) adored the wetland as a front yard. Saw so many different birds. Blew us away. Thank you.

Waterfront view

This was a nice little bach right by the water. Because Karitane is a very tiny township, the peace and quietness made for a really nice realxing stay. The bach itself was comfortable with a very good heat pump and all rooms having a "rustic look", which just added to it's casual vibe. There was no internet, however this is mentioned in the description and, honestly, for those who just want a relaxing few days away, it's not a big deal. There is also a small cafe/store about a 5min drive away, run by some awesome people, if you want to stock up on the basics. Overall it was an amazing stay and we will be back for those early morning water views!

All in all OK

Location superb. Wind was miserable so we ended up putting a tarp on the left of the deck for some shielding. BBQ could have been cleaned. Deep in old fat. Kitchen very nicely stocked with utensils etc. Unfortunately the house had probably been closed up too long and was very smelly of mould/damp, particularly the smaller bedroom. All in all, we were not there to be inside and had lots of fun outside on the beach and in the town.

Stunning location

Loved the Bach. Small and quirky. It is everything there what you need. I loved the fact that I could put my Kajak in to the water just in front of the Bach, and just left it there the whole time. Very convenient. The views are magnificent. I couldn't get enough from. We took our bikes as well. Lovely bike rides around. Every day I had a beautiful coffee and a cake (baked by a french bakery) at the dairy. Lovely owners. I fell in love with this place. Thank you

Not quite as it seemed

Photos weren’t quite true to reality. Very uneven surfacing on floor. One of my party had mobility issues & tripped & nearly fell on carpet pieces that were covering uneven areas several times. No internet which wasn’t stated as needed to continue with business commitments while there. The location & view from the deck however, made up for the fact we were staying somewhere that appeared to be part way through renovations. Communication with owner was fantastic. Always responded quickly.

Everything a bach should be!

Great location on waterfront, bach is fully equipped and surrounded by interesting things to do, places to go and pure relaxation. Highly recommended.
