Perfect space and location

My cousin and I rented this property recently for a family visit and it was just perfect! The cabin looks s rustic yet has modern and beautiful upgrades, making this feel like home away from home. We met the owners who are lovely as are their pups, Emmitt and Harper! We can’t wait to return and will make this our go to location for all future east TN visits!

Perfect Location

We chose this property because it was close to the Museum of Appalachia. We enjoyed staying in a place that had so much character as an antique cabin. I would highly recommend it but perhaps mention that the bedroom & restroom were on different floors.

Clean, Comfortable, Charming

This was a charming cabin with all the comforts of home. It is well-maintained, clean, and the furnishings are comfortable. The owners were very friendly and helpful. There was an amazing scent from the plants along the walkway to the door. (Maybe jasmine?) Perfect for our romantic get-away. Norris Dam State Park is just up the road and was a beautiful setting for hiking and exploring. Nice local brewery there, too. Great stay!

Unclean and heat started not to work last day

I really enjoyed staying at the cabin however the oven wasn’t clean, I had too clean all the plates and cups in the dishwasher they felt sticky. Dust bunnies behind the cabinet in the living room. I have Severe Asthma so this affected me.

Lovely log cabin

Our Hosts were so kind. Bed was incredibly comfy! Fireplace perfect! Porch to sit and have our morning coffee: excellent. Close to nature walks by the river. Little bit of highway sound but not too bad.

You'll love it here!

This cabin has a combination of old and newer. It has the old cabin appearance on the outside as well as some of the inside, but also the 'newer' conveniences we have come to enjoy and depend on (electricity, fridge, inside toilet, etc). We stayed 3 nights in the winter months and we stayed quite comfortable inside. We cooked all our meals at the cabin without any trouble. I am always particular about the shower in a new place.... and I was quite impressed with the water pressure! The owners, Bob and Robin, were very kind and attentive to our needs. We would recommend this property to others and would definitely stay here again.

Great getaway spot!

My wife and I had a great stay. The cabin is beautiful, comfortable, and quiet. The Museum of Appalachia, practically next door, is a mostly outdoor exhibit and well worth seeing. We also went hiking in the nearby Norris Dam state park. I hope we can get back again.

Beautiful cabin

We enjoyed the quick weekend getaway to recharge from the fast paced madness we live in. Cabin is gorgeous, well equipped and comfortable. Owners are very informative and accommodating. Area is easy to get to, but back a gravel lane that leads to solitude and peace. Bed was comfortable. No issues at all. We enjoyed sitting on the porch at night. Thank you so much and we will return!

About the host

Hosted by Robert and Robin Sain

Host profile image
Bob and Robin Sain are the owners of the Cabin along with their dogs, cats, birds, and horses. As ‘custodians’ of the Foust cabin we are dedicated to the restoration and preservation of it by minimizing the impact of providing conveniences of modern living for our guests. As we restored each cabin we took steps to ensure the original structural integrity of each cabin was retained as much as we could and still comply with local building codes.

Why they chose this property

The Foust family cabin is unique as it is an artifact of the history of Appalachia that is rapidly disappearing. It has endured the passage of time for over 150 years if not longer. One of our primary goals is to preserve it so it may survive for many years to come. Robin and I view our ownership of this cabin as being temporary custodians until we pass it on to the next generation of owners. We want to use this time to collect as much information as we can about the history and background of the cabin and the families who lived in it.

What makes this property unique

Since we started offering guest accommodations in 2002, we have had hundreds of guests representing a variety of people and reasons for staying with us. The experiences we have gained over the years prompt us to level set our goals, interests, and expectations in order to assist you, as a potential guest, to decide if staying in our of our cabin aligns with our mutual expectations.
We want you, our guest, to understand what we offer:

• We offer safe, comfortable, and quiet accommodations - best suited for couples or small families.

• We seek guests who are looking for a unique place to stay and can appreciate and understand the historical significance of the Cabin.

• Our guests should show respect and care during their stay. This is a very old cabin and cannot be abused or marred as we seek to preserve it for future generations.

Things to consider before making a reservation:

We respect our guest's privacy and do not provide daily services. However, if there is anything our guests need or have questions, we are more than happy to assist.

• We cannot accommodate large group meetings such as wedding parties, family reunions, business meetings, or other large groups.

There are outdoor security cameras on the property. They will not be utilized during your stay unless you request them.
