The temperature is usually ideal for sitting outside, enjoying the sunshine, seeing the view and watching the birdlife. (The resident kookaburras expect feeding at regular intervals.) In summer the temperature in Mildura may be hot but this house can be kept cool and a dip in the river is always refreshing. The paddle steamers go past all year round and will respond to a wave with a blast of the siren.
The service centre and general store/cafe on the highway is a good early morning walk (1 km, through bush and across the sports ground), to collect the paper, milk and bread. The Varapodio Estate Cafe, also on the highway (but still within easy walking distance) is well worth a visit. Apart from an excellent lunch, their speciality is olive oil and olive oil ice cream. The Gol Gol Hotel is a longer walk but you can drive or go by boat; this is a very popular place at weekends and booking for an evening meal is advised. The Trentham Estate Winery, also on the highway and on the river, further to the east is a great place for lunch on a sunny spring day.
The property is not recommended for large gatherings, parties or the like.
