Nice, quiet, peaceful and serene, Wheeler Lake House is great for those who want to unwind. Only 8 homes rest on this private lake so guests are able to take in the woodlands, see the resident swans and loons, and enjoy the stillness of the lake. Jump in one of the two row-boats and enjoy fishing on this all sports lake. Love the winter? Enjoy hopping on the maintained country road and cruise on over to a local snowmobile trail!

Wheeler Lake House consists of 2 buildings: the main house and a bunk house. The main house hosts 2 bedrooms, living room, bathroom and deck. Of course, there is also a fully-equipped kitchen that is perfect for whipping up a meal, or if you prefer, take the food outside and relax while grilling on a propane grill. At night, enjoy looking at the stars while you sit around the campfire.

The detached bunk house is equipped with a 40” flat screen Smart TV, couch, and Double-Twin bunk bed (sleeps 3). This space is great for kids or teens. There is not a bathroom in the bunk house.

Handicap Friendly: Let us explain what we mean by handicap friendly…there is a zero-1 step entry into this home, and it is one level (a ranch-style home). There are bars in the bathroom for guest support however, the hallways are not up to official handicap standards and do not come equipped with special apparatus to help those in need.

Internet: Yes, there is (satellite) WiFi at the property

Linens: Yes, we provide your sheets and linens. Just like a hotel, the beds will be made for you upon arrival. Parking: You can park 2-4 cars or 2 truck/trailer combos

Pets: We are sorry, pets are not allowed at this property.

Privacy: Neighbors directly on either side of the cottage. There are only 8 homes on the lake.

Seniors: Come one, come all! This space is great for those over 60. Sometimes when renting a home, you are never too sure about the terrain: is the home on top of a hill?, is parking on a steep slope?, are there 100 steps to the beach or the unit?, etc. This home gets the FVR approval for the young at heart!

Smoking: No smoking of any kind is allowed on the property. Due to the close proximity of the neighbors, it is strictly prohibited.

Snowmobiles: Yes, you can ride right from the house. The trail begins at the first bend in the road from the house (less than half a mile from the property). You will need to ride the power line to Mancelona to get to the main trail.
A person (resident and nonresident) that operates a snowmobile in Michigan is required to purchase a snowmobile trail permit. The trail permit enables snowmobilers to ride state-designated trails and thousands more miles of public roads and on public lands (where authorized). It is valid for one year, which begins Oct. 1 and ends Sept. 30 of the following year. State-designated trails are open Dec. 1-March 31 and grooming occurs when there is enough snow on the ground.

Space: There are 2 buildings: The Main lake house and the Bunk house.

Televisions: There is a 40” TV in the bunk house and a 43” flat in main home. Both televisions are Smart TVs. You can sign in to your Netflix or Hulu account and enjoy your favorite shows and movies. There is no cable or satellite TV, but there are 14 local channels in both the bunk house and in the main home.

Towels: Yes, we provide towels. It's always good to bring extra though. We do not provide beach towels.

Great for families
We loved all the wildlife we got to see and how undeveloped this lake is with only a handful of cottages. It was just right for a family with small children who could play in the sand and in shallow water. Every night several little turtles would come to the dock (the neighbors feed them). Our kids caught lots of fish! One perk of a lake with so few people. Loved the comfy swing right by the water. Five Bridges nature preserve is nearby and beautiful. We also went to Elk rapids. The cottage itself is older but with some nice updates in the kitchen and nice living room furniture. As others have mentioned it could probably use a deep cleaning but overall we were happy. We had prompt text responses to a couple of questions we had during the visit.

Great place to getaway with family
I recently spent some time at this property with my family and we could not have been happier with our stay. My kids loved fishing off the dock, swimming in the shallow warm water, and watching the wildlife. It was so peaceful we kept forgetting that town was only 10 minutes away if we needed anything. The kitchen really was fully stocked with any dishes or utensils you could need and we cooked several full meals with ease. If you’re looking for a place to connect with family and nature, this is the perfect option.

Relaxing space
The area was relaxing and the house was good. It needs a little TLC and some cleaning that everyone’s house needs. The lighter in the grill didn’t work but the gas stove and a candle gets that job done. All in all it was a good place to stay and very relaxing.

Short and Sweet
We were only able to stay here for a few days, but it was wonderful! Our family thoroughly enjoyed the absolute peace and quiet of this location. My husband and children were able to catch a lot of bluegills, bass, and even a few pike. All in all a wonderfully relaxing, enjoyable vacation!

Excellent family vacation!
We have five children ages 1-10. The close access of the lake was wonderful. It was right out the back door, and with a full wall of windows we could keep an eye on the children while they swam, fished and used the paddle boat. We ate on the deck quite a bit and used the grill. There's a nice shallow area in the water that our little ones could swim and play in. The neighbors were friendly and did say that bears come right up to the houses sometimes. We did not see a single bear our whole stay though. We did see bald eagles and loons. Grocery store and laundromat are close by in Kalkaska. There was a spare single bed in the one bedroom closet. That was helpful since our children were too young to sleep out in the bunk house alone. We made many good memories there and would highly recommend staying there!

Peaceful and Beautiful Retreat
The first thing you see when you walk in the cabin is the wall of windows that look out onto lovely Wheeler Lake. The loons greeted us every morning and the deer splashing around the lake were a delight to watch. I even got to see an Eagle land and sun itself on the shore. We had a quiet, relaxing stay and didn’t want to leave!

After a few days of non-stop driving and activities, this was the perfect place to unwind and relax. Didn't have to find walking trails because we could just go out the door for our 5-mile walk. Peaceful and Quaint
This property is a good location if you're planning on enjoying outdoor activities such as ATV riding, snowmobiling or the fishing lake. Biggest issue was the WIFI that was listed. The internet here is Satellite and offers a very poor connection. The listing should mention "Satellite" internet so people know what to expect. Additionally, all the TVs in the home are internet TVs with the Roku stick or App and cannot be used with the poor internet connections. Would have been nice to know this in advance
