Sheerwater was originally a small holiday shack built in the 1950s. Since then it has been partially renovated and extended over the years to become a cosy 3 bedroom family holiday cottage with stunning ocean views. It is powered by a small solar system with a brand new 450Lt fridge/freezer, new gas stove, gas hot water and gas heater. Unfortunately due to only a small solar system there is no microwave or washing machine, however a laundromat is available in Northcliffe at the community Centre on Zamia Street.
It is fully self-contained with all crockery, cutlery, toaster, French press for coffee, pots and pans etc and a couple of wind-up torches for kangaroo spots for the kids.
We DON'T PROVIDE LINEN only pillows and doonas. It also has a smart TV (sorry no internet only if you have a Telstra phone and good data) and DVD player, a selection of DVDs, loads of books, magazines and board games. The roadside balcony houses a gas barbecue and outdoor seating. For safety of small children the balcony has a lockable gate. Mosquitos are around in the evenings, being close to the ocean, some mosquito coils are available. The peppermint trees do attract bees in the spring and early summer season.
Even in the winter it's great being warm and snug in this cosy cottage watching the waves rise and fall. Just start by closing off the bedrooms crank the heater up to four bars and turn on the heater fan switch, after a short time you will want to open the bedroom doors as it gets really warm. Unfortunately the bedrooms don’t have their own heating.
Things To DO
Windy Harbour is a sleepy coastal holiday settlement that becomes a busy little fishing port at Easter time and during school holidays or when ever the weather is good for boating.
Note: If you are a light sleeper you might need ear plugs for a sleep-in as the keen fishermen and women with boats go out on day break and the tractors used to tow the boats can get noisy!
Windy Harbour is a short distance from the Pemberton wine region and the beautiful karri forests for which the South West is famous.
Stroll along the beach, past nature's spa up to Cathedral Rock, continue up the cliffs to view The Window, a great place to watch the sunset over the ocean. A little further around is the lighthouse and another seat to just sit, rest and take in the beautiful view. Even in summer though you may need a jumper as the place isn't called Windy Harbour for nothing!
There are many walk trails, scenic spots and 4WD trails in the area and of course the fishing so many come for. The surfers also enjoy the waves at Salmon Beach.
Extra Information
NextG mobile phone reception is now available within the settlement.
The new Northcliffe Visitors Centre is full of great ideas on things to do and places to go within the area.
