Lovely home with all the needed amenities for comfort. We were all impressed and well comfortable for a family Christmas. A big fancy Christmas tree and a large black and white Christmas pudding from the host added more colour for us.

Voiture indispensable!
This property is absolutely stunning! The views are wonderful all around the house. Caroline was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. This house had all amenities that you could think of and then some! List of brochures to help you decide where to explore. Extremely peaceful and serene.
I rarely give high praise, but this house truly earns it. Castlebaldwin is truly exceptional.
Complete with top-of-the-line appliances and laundry facilities, the house offers everything you could ask for. You'll find a world of high comfort. High ceilings greet you as you enter the main part of the house, while the windows allow you to view the wonderful scenery. The house manager was very responsive and helpful when we needed it.
The panoramic views of the countryside are truly stunning. It's incredibly serene, even just gazing out the windows. I only wish our stay could have been longer at Castlebaldwin.
Having visited in 2018 and fallen in love with it then, returning was a no-brainer. I'm so glad we did.
Castlebaldwin is a near-perfect sanctuary where one can unwind and reconnect. Hope others enjoy the house much like we did.
What a great house, everything you could want or need was supplyed. Check-in with Caroline was great, Caroline was very helpful and explained the workings of the house.
Amazing living space and kitchen.
Views to die for.
One of the kids left their coat behind and when we got in touch with Caroline the next day, she found it and posted it on to us without any bother, many thanks Caroline
Downside....Family bathroom door urgently needs a working lock.
Heating is controlled remotely by host, wasn't on when we needed itin the evenings, although seemed to be on during the night.
Bedroom's need updating, a little TLC.
To conclude we all very much enjoyed our New Year break, we will be back.
Spacious, warm, comfortable, well appointed, great views.
The house is exceptionally well appointed and has everything that a visitor would want and more. Modern comforts in a traditional and peaceful rural setting. The beds were beautifully made up and great sleeps were had by all! The views of Lough Arrow and the Neolithic landscape are spectacular. The pretty country lane with its traditional stone walls and lovely grass centre is a special treat.
Great place and way more space than we needed. Breathtaking views. Perfect for the kids to enjoy as well. The hiking path right from the house was a great adventure. Close driving distance to nearby towns.
Private, beautiful and spacious home with unsurpassed views. Our family enjoyed our time here. There's megolithic tombs closeby unfortunately we couldn't figure out how to get to them, which would have been neat! We loved being surrounded by cows, sheep and horses. The property manager was very sweet, and attentive. Highly recommend!
Super séjour chez James dans sa magnifique maison très confortable et super bien équipée. Nous avons pu rayonner dans la région, savourer ce beau pays irlandais et rencontrer ses charmants habitants.
We all really enjoyed our stay. The property was perfect! We had everything we needed and we all enjoyed the fabulous views. We found the location great for exploring this part of Sligo and Roscommon.
The best spot to spend Christmas with the family. We came over from 3 different countries and the house was perfect for us. Large living room open with the kitchen, we can be together all the time doing different things. Very large confortable family bathroom, spacefull rooms, with everything we need!
We definitely want to come back!
Absolutely loved it!
When arriving at the property, the views are the first thing to take your breath away. Being greeted by some cows was a fun way to start our stay, especially for the 6 year old. Then we entered the home. No possible words can describe the amount of head swiveling that happens!
The road/driveway is not for the faint of heart and, luckily, we had insurance on the car due to constant driving through reeds. This is 100% a location that I will suggest to my network of people, and, also visit again.
Jim was very responsive, as was Caroline.
Thank you for the lovely, lovely stay!!

We all loved the home and the views have to be the best in all Ireland! The day we arrived there was a huge double rainbow over the lake, like it was ordered right from the VRBO page. The beds were comfortable, the baths were very nice. We cooked several meals in the kitchen and had every possible utensil and pan we could have needed. I claimed Carrowkeel in the pre dawn and watched the sun rise from the cairns. We couldn't have had a better location for exploring the area. We really appreciated the home.
I booked the house to spend easter and my birthday with a group of 10 friends. The house was spacious great to play games, have big diners, dance!
The view is incredible and the host very responsive and accommodating.
Kitchen very well equipped - beds comfortable - bathroom brand new and spacious.
This was our second trip to Castlebaldwin, and we already can't wait to return. The view, the space and the proximity to beautiful County Sligo is unmatched.
The house itself is incredibly well equipped - the kitchen has every tool you could ever ask for, making cooking at home easy. The house itself is spotless and well-looked after. Check-in and check-out couldn't be simpler.
One note: If you're looking for a house in the city, or walking distance to pubs, this may not be for you. However, if you're looking for peace, quiet in a wonderful family home, you've found it.
If I ever win the lottery I'm buying this house. It is fantastic. The home is warm, cozy, and very spacious. There are 4 bedrooms and 3 baths, which is hard to find in a vacation rental in Europe.
Spotless. The kitchen was modern, with all the appliances, dishes, and utensils that you can imagine. Loved our time there.
Caroline was fantastic to work with and gave us really suggestions for shopping, church, pubs.
My only suggestion would be to put out a couple of road markers once you turn off the main highway. We drove down a couple of gravel roads before finally finding the right one. Neighbor at the top of the hill helped us out.
An amazing location with spectacular views close enough to villages, towns and amenities. We have just spent a lovely week overlooking Lough Arrow and visiting local mountains, waterfalls and beaches. Thank you to Jim for excellent communication and for Caroline overseeing the housekeeping of our visit with friendliness and efficiency. We have family that live locally and will definitely be returning again if we get the chance. Thank you!!
My friends and I had a lovely stay here. The house is very spacious, the beds are comfortable and the kitchen is extremely well equipped for cooking for a big group. The views across the lake are fantastic, especially on a sunny day. Good communication with the host throughout our stay. Would definitely recommend.
An overall fabulous few days with breathtaking views. A complete break away in peaceful tranquil surroundings. Stock up on your essentials, travel around and enjoy the neighbouring locations such as Carraig on Shannon and Sligo city.
This house was fantastic. The views were stunning in all directions. Inside the house the living area was beautifully designed and very well appointed. Its ideal for families. Even with the current restrictions due to covid 19 we still found loads of activities to do without having to travel too far. The carrowkeel tombs are an enjoyable 30 to 40 min walk. Lough Key Forest park is a 15 min drive. Eagles Flying bird sanctuary 20 mins drive and the house is 30 to 40 mins from the sea.
We would definitely recommend this house and would love to return ourselves in the future.

About the host
Hosted by Jim
Geraldine and Jim have lived a number of places-Jim having grown up in Minneapolis and Annapolis, MD and Geraldine in Ballymote, County Sligo . After college in Richmond, VA and New York, NY, Jim relocated to Roanoke, VA where he lived for 22 years, raising 3 sons. Geraldine arrived from Ireland in 1988 and spent time in New Jersey and South Florida, until she relocated to Roanoke where our paths crossed. We currently live in Boca Raton, Florida. (If you're planning a trip to sunny Florida, check out our other listing, 917719)
Why they chose this property
Geraldine and I visit her Irish home frequently and were looking for a home to eventually spend part of the year when we retire-we came upon this home almost by accident, seeing a flyer in the window of a real estate office in Sligo. We got to see the property the day before we were returning home to the States, and committed to making it ours. We were captivated by the views from the home and the potential the home had with the renovations we knew we would do, and it was large enough to hold our family comfortably.
What makes this property unique
There really are no other properties that compare to this house. The combination of views, historic location, access to outdoor activities, and the feeling of complete relaxation afforded by the complete package is unbeatable.
